A true renaissance man, Alex makes: mini epic films, video installations, games, photographs, sculpture, blogs and books. Using readily available materials and software the work often has a feeling of improvisation, an initial throwaway idea made visible.

Throughout his practice there is a sense of an acceptance of failure or disappointment as important parts of the human condition. He makes light with big issues and is, in turn, haunting and funny. His humorous sculpture typically conveys a sense of the accidental, eternally on the brink of failure or collapse. Recent DIY apocalypses, created from expanding builders' foam, seem to have an unruly, malevolent life of their own and explore the processes of invasion and infection. While his films and writing play with ideas of chance, quotidian struggles, the loss of control and responsibility.

A big part of my inspiration comes from the natural surroundings and through my travels. The main topic that I approach it is landscape, in all moods and mysteries. The diversity of materials that I use helps me to create in the smallest details, impressions created about the natural world and our experiences with it.

I am Marcin Bernard, an artist and art educator who mainly specialises in painting and sculpting on wood and stone. I have been painting and sculpting since twelve years of age. I completed MFA in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk in Poland. I have currently moved back to the United Kingdom with my family and am loving in York.

I genuinely enjoy working together with the students. When I conducted a stone carving workshop at NIE( National Institute of Education) in Singapore, where I taught students how to transfer 2D ideas to 3D but carving directly onto limestone, it can be an upheaval task for students but to scaffold them to visualise their plan, see through the process from beginning to the end, problem-solving, tweaking, translating the 2D idea into 3D effectively, seeing them succeed and execute, gave me the feeling of satisfaction and joy. I realise then this is what I want to do, to teach. It was very different from an artist satisfaction.

My approach is to find out the strength as interest of my students and to guide them to develop them and also to work ideas and think through their narratives and purpose of their work of art or art project. It can also be skill based if the child wants to develop skills, or to facilitate help towards their academic but as well discover the artistic talent in them while working towards their academic projects.

Every student is different and I would contribute by imparting skills such as observation, analytical cognitive processes, technical ability such as drawing, painting, sculpting. I taught advanced life drawing classes at Ericaceous Art School in Dorking, worked for a special royal family, and also for Toyota, UK. I founded my art company in 2017 in Reigate. Over a few years I grew our community of like minded Art tutors and students coming together to share our Art passion. Outgrowing our first studio, Covid lockdowns created an opportunity to move to a beautiful studio space. We developed and diversified our Art tuition offering. We won `Social Impact` category at Reigate & Banstead Business Awards, and RBBC Entrepreneur Academy in 2022. As well as providing Art Tuition for over 100 students per week, we created murals, teamed with ESDAS, worked in schools and for charities, held Open Days and special Art events, and most importantly made connections with so many wonderful local families and individuals. I know anything is possible, failures are welcome, and we create our own definitions of success.

I have a MA in Production Design for Film and Television from Kingston University and a BA Hons in Furniture Design and Applied Arts from Edinburgh College of Art. I have worked in the film and television industry since 2004. I lead large teams of specialist designers, art directors, junior assistants, crafts people and construction teams. And I collaborate closely with other experts within the industry including cinematographers, directors and screenwriters.

A production designer designs the worlds in which the TV Drama or film is set. That includes working with location people to choose locations in which to film - and building sets in studios. It can also involve working closely with SFX teams. The role juggles creative vision with practical project management. It's a collaborative media/ industry and relies heavily on communication skills- visual and verbal.

Teaching Experience:
I've tutored students looking to win a place in art schools/universities and specialist creative high schools. Students looking to better their results at A level, and I've taught larger classes of young adults in university and workshops. I help my four year old with his art and design too : )
