Tutoring Approach:
My teaching approach takes a long-term view of learning. I want students to be successful in their immediate examinations, but I also teach them in a way that prepares them for higher study and makes them more confident in their academic abilities generally.

I strongly believe that a solid understanding of basic principles is the foundation of academic success. I therefore spend considerable time making sure these foundations are secure before moving on to more complicated material.

If a student doesn't understand something, I don't assume they are incapable of understanding it. Sometimes it simply needs to be explained differently. My job is to find that explanation.

I am a strong believer in understanding rather than rote learning. I want students to understand what they are doing and why they are doing it, rather than simply memorising and reproducing something they have seen previously. Once a student genuinely understands a concept, they are much better equipped to apply it to unfamiliar questions.

I also encourage practical understanding. Particularly in Economics and Business, I frequently use real-world examples to make abstract theory more relevant and memorable. Where appropriate, I relate material to businesses, financial markets, government policy and situations students are likely to encounter outside the classroom.

As examinations approach, I increasingly focus on applying this understanding to exam questions. This includes question interpretation, structure, application, analysis, evaluation, time management and understanding exactly what examiners are looking for.

Finally, I believe successful teaching is ultimately about listening to your students. I constantly encourage students to question things and tell me when they don't understand or are unsure.

If a student appears hesitant, I will often ask open questions or ask them to explain the concept back to me. This allows me to understand their thought process rather than simply establishing whether they have arrived at the correct answer.

I have high expectations of my students and expect them to put effort into their studies, but I also want them to feel comfortable making mistakes. Mistakes are often the quickest way for me to identify exactly what a student doesn't understand and therefore what I need to explain differently.

Ultimately, my aim is to make students increasingly independent of me. A successful student should eventually have the knowledge, confidence and skills to tackle difficult problems themselves.

I have been the Head of Accounting since 2006, at a large Catholic Sixth Form College in Hulme, Manchester. I am 46 years old, living in Didsbury, South Manchester. Teaching Experience:
I started my tutoring journey when I was in my undergraduate studies at university. I used to teach one of my friends who needed help, advice, and support with AAT subjects such as Financial Accounting, Management Accounting and Personal Tax. Since I have entered the Online Tutoring industry, I have taught more than 300 students delivering a total of more than 3000 hours of tutoring sessions. This was all accomplished within just five years and I will continue to help students learn, prepare and be confident for their exams and the course. I have taught in Accountancy subjects such as Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Personal Tax and Business Tax.

I am a qualified teacher (PGCE) and for the past 25 years I have taught 'A' level Accounting to international students at an independent school in the UK. I have an excellent track record of results where most of my students have achieved A*/A/B grades.

Teaching Experience:
In my previous school, I was head of Accounting for sixteen years. We were listed in The Good Schools Guide for the best results in A level Accounting achieved by girls. More recently I have been teaching many students online. I am very familiar with the AQA exam board, where I have attended Inset training days so I am very up to date with the changes on the specification.

Tutoring Approach:
I enjoy tutoring students that struggle with the subject and providing them with academic support. I remember one student who said I can't do Accounting after failing an internal exam, and it was clear his confidence in the subject was at rock bottom. After giving him 1:1 tutoring, I was able to apply different teaching strategies to simplify and explain the concepts in such a way that the student could understand, giving him lots of practice on exam styled questions to build his confidence. This student went on to study Accounting and Finance at university. This is just one of many students that have gone on to top universities like Warwick, LSE, Bristol and Nottingham. My lessons are very interactive and I think it is extremely important to keep checking that the student understands so I will always check learning as we progress with tasks to complete. However, in order for students to progress in Accounting it is crucial they follow my instructions and guidance and that will include reviewing the lesson material during the week in between lessons, this is crucial so that they retain the information taught.

I'm a very experienced, qualified A-Level Accounting teacher, having taught the subject in sixth form colleges for over 10 years. I understand that Accounting can be a difficult subject to master, with its own unique language and techniques, and I am able to explain topics clearly and patiently. I believe that interactive lessons are key to success and that learning comprises both explanation and practise. I can help students to overcome their anxiety about this subject and, through improved knowledge and understanding, increase their confidence. I am very familiar with the AQA specification, having attended relevant training sessions, and I know what's needed to achieve high marks on exam questions. I have an excellent track record of exam results, with most students achieving very high grades and progressing to their preferred university. I believe that the key to successful tutoring is to listen to what a student needs, and then to respond by providing support and guidance that target those particular areas. A key component of tutoring is explaining key terms and concepts and answering questions. Practise is vital in A-Level Accounting, and so I provide lots of opportunity for the tutee to answer accounting questions. I provide support during this, and feedback. Developing a good working relationship with the student is very important - the tutee needs to trust me to do a good job. I think I can provide this: I am patient, understanding, kind and considerate. I can offer these things in addition to the technical knowledge and skills that I have, and as a result, dramatically improve the tutee's chances of success in the A-Level Accounting exams.

My first degree in International History and Politics included Economics as a subsidiary. My professional accountancy qualifications are postgraduate level qualifications in accountancy. An additional bonus is that I hold a second degree level qualification in teaching English, which is an Ofqual regulated teaching qualification. My accountancy, business and economics students will receive coaching about how to ensure their answers are well-written and logical. This can lead to higher scores.

My students describe me as professional, approachable and driven. I coach adults over 18 online and resit students are welcome. I have great material including past papers. When we first meet we will discuss your learning needs so that I can develop a personalised learning plan for you. During each class, I initially explain the concept, then we work on a task together.
