Personal Description:
Over the past 12 years, I have enabled hundreds of students to maximise their potential in GCSE, AS/A-Level and IB examinations.

I completed my PhD in 2015 (University of London), which was about the philosophy of folly in Shakespeare's plays. Having worked as a school teacher, university lecturer and held fellowships at Kingston University and the University of Athens, I currently teach Shakespeare at the CEU and run my education company. I have published two books, one based on my PhD and one on social psychology, as well as numerous articles on literature and philosophy.

Whereas English Literature, Language and Philosophy are my primary disciplines, I have also taught German and History up to A-Level standard in schools in Britain. I believe education is not simply a means to an end; rather, it offers exciting and new ways of thinking about ourselves and the world around us. In my spare time, I enjoy writing and skiing.

Teaching Experience:
My teaching experience is fairly extensive and I have taught both in the UK and abroad. I have taught at schools (GCSE, IB and A-Levels) and universities in the UK, as well as leading Shakespeare workshops across Europe, when I worked for the British Council.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe the key to successful tuition is communication. I set clear goals for my students and ensure that they are always prepared and confident in their exams.

Depending on the students needs, I assist with academic writing and how best to fulfil the exam boards' specific Coursework Assessment Objectives or we focus on exam techniques to ensure the best possible outcome. Alongside my personal tuition, I provide my students with extensive digital resources, developed by my company, for free. I encourage discussion and debate and enjoy learning from my students. I have graduated at Cambridge University in 2014, studying Mathematics and achieved 2:1. Since then, I have worked for 6yrs in the investment and finance industry, heavily involved in financial analysis, and am a CFA Charterholder.

I would like to help young people to pass their exams well. I am passionate about teaching, and would like to pass on my knowledge to anyone who seeks it. My aim is to improve the confidence of the pupils, and to make them more interested in the subject they are tutored in.

Teaching Experience:
I have tutored my sister and cousins in their Mathematics exams, with some success.

I have also helped a few other A-level mathematics tutees through tutoring websites, who have achieved As in their A levels, and a few younger tutees in passing their 11+ entrance exams. I hope to raise my teaching experience through UK tutors.

Tutoring Approach:
I will help pupils through their class/home works via their textbooks, personalised Q&A, and worked examples. I will also offer my own knowledge to help them through rough patches and broaden their knowledge too. I will work the pupils hard, and hope that the pupils put in the effort too!

I currently work for Derbyshire County Council as an 'out of school' tutor in the core subjects and also as a private maths tutor. During 2012/13 I worked at Levenshulme High school, an 11-16 girls school in Manchester, where I taught maths. Prior to this I worked at Burnage Media Arts College as a maths teacher and Astley Sports College as a maths teacher with extra responsibilities as the ICT coordinator and the gifted and talented coordinator for the whole school. From completing my degree to pursuing a career in teaching I raced as a semi-professional on the Great Britain National Cycling Squad. I have also gained gold medals at both World and National level over the last several years. I am also a member of Glossop mountain Rescue Team.

I have taught in secondary schools in both Tameside and Manchester and also delivered one to one maths tuition throughout this period. I have extensive experience of teaching Edexcel and AQA syllabuses. I have specific experience of one to one tuition to convert grade D students at GCSE to a grade C. My 13 years experience working as a Principal Examiner included responsibility for writing your A Level and AS Psychology exam papers for a major exam board; awarding grades to students and writing the all important examiner reports. In this respect I have a true insight into how Psychology exam papers are set and marked having supervised the marking of thousands of exams since 2002. I was also part of the team that wrote and produced the new A Level Psychology specifications for 2008 and 2015.

I have been providing training and support to staff and students since 2003 and visit numerous schools and colleges regularly especially during the key revision season. I am a regular speaker for Keynote Educational Ltd and also run successful staff and student Psychology webinars.

I have over 20 years teaching experience and have taught and examined for both AQA and Edexcel specifications at A level and GCSE. I have written articles for Psychology Review and am a published author having written textbooks at A level and GCSE.

Whether its simplifying content or more importantly understanding what the examiners want then look no further.
My sessions are always dictated by the needs of the student and we will typically focus on building confidence in understanding and answering exam questions. Getting your written abilities to match your verbal abilities is key as so many students know the answer but just cant write it down in the exam in order to get marks.
Exams have changed significantly so there is less guessing what's going to be on the paper and a heavier focus on applying knowledge to questions. I will challenge you to tackle these and other types of questions so you are fully prepared for them.
I always say 50% of your grade in August will be down to the correct type of revision and the other 50% is down to how you interpret the exam question, together we will successfully tackle both. I began teaching Spanish back in the 1970s and formally qualified as a Modern Language Teacher in 1982, having done my teacher training (P.G.C.E.) at Leeds Trinity University. I have taught Spanish at various levels and at various institutions and also spent 15 years at Feltham Community School teaching evening classes at G.C.S.E. level. I have lived and travelled abroad, notably Mexico, Spain and Argentina, where I met my wife (we have a bilingual daughter as we speak Spanish in the home). Tutoring Approach:
I teach both in small groups and one-to-one depending on the individual requirements. My style varies depending on age and whether the student is studying for an exam. For those wishing to take the GCSE or other exams in Spanish, I will cover the syllabus of the individual's exam board: in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire this is currently AQA, whereas in Middlesex, where I used to teach, it is AEB. With adults, depending on the level and groups size (if teaching a group), I sometimes use the sort of techniques employed in teaching English as a Foreign Language.
In all cases I use the medium of Spanish, depending on the level, but where necessary will explain particular aspects of grammar in English.
I have worked for many years in industry, so I do not cover just academic language. For example, in the past I have taught students from Trading Companies, Health Care organizations, Banks, government organizations, airlines etc.

As well as being a full-time private tutor for nearly 15 years, I have a background in comedy, writing and performance. I've published three humour books and continue to write for theatre companies and private events. She also participated in masterclasses with Karl Lutchmayer, Gabriele Baldocci, Douglas Finch, and Sally Ann MacLeod. Gauri completed her music diploma with distinction from KM Music Conservatory, A. R. Rahman's music school in Chennai, India, where she was the lead pianist of the KM Piano Ensemble and performed at Alliance Française of Madras.

To excel as a music educator, Gauri studied music education and community under Dr. Adam Grieg and attended teaching seminars by Trinity Laban Conservatoire with Tim Palmer. Tutoring Approach:
Whilst teaching, I try to guide students towards "understanding" before "knowing". Simple memorisation, especially at GCSE level, is essential and should be part of each student's approach. However I've found through my own journey as a student that going a bit deeper with understanding and really asking questions can save a lot of time in the long run. It's how you "work smart". Plus it's a great feeling having moments where you realise you just "get it"! I find it very rewarding to help students realise they can achieve more than they believe is within their capabilities.

In maths and the sciences, understanding a few key principles lays the foundations for learning. It's easy to feel lost when certain fundamentals are glossed over as they sometimes are in school lessons. This is why in my approach, I will initially try to identify a student's strengths, learning style and gaps in understanding in their own words, then use this to tailor our focus to the right areas. It goes without saying that I aim to ensure that they're able to answer exam questions successfully but it is equally important to me that they feel comfortable asking questions and engaging.
