Marhaba! My name is Ali and I have been teaching Arabic for many years. I moved to Bristol a few years ago and I absolutely love the city and its free-spirited culture. When I came to the UK twenty five years ago, I didn't speak a single word of English. This personal experience allows me to empathise and understand what it feels like to learn a new language from scratch.

I hold two master's degrees: an MA in Linguistics-Based Translation and an MA in International Education, both of which inform my approach to language teaching. Additionally, I have a Celta from the University of Bristol.

I am a native speaker and I have been teaching Arabic for many years. I have taught university students, GCSE and A Level students as well as adult learners.

Currently, I work as an Arabic Assessment Specialist at the International Baccalaureate (IB). I am a fully qualified and experienced Mandarin and Spanish teacher, and held the positions of Head of Chinese at both Oakham School and Oundle School. I am bilingual in Spanish, and studied Chinese at University for 4 years, including a year in China.

Languages have always been a passion of mine, and I am eager to help language learners of all abilities. I am friendly and approachable, and realise how difficult Mandarin in particular can be for learners with no Chinese background. For example, if I'm teaching Math's to a Year 1 student, I start with the basics addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I make sure the student understands the concept behind each problem, because once they understand it, they're already halfway to solving it. After that, I encourage them to try solving questions in their own way. If they make mistakes, I guide them patiently until they understand the correct method.
