I am a fully-qualified professional teacher with more than 30 years of teaching and tutoring experience, both in the UK and abroad. I regard myself as a friendly and approachable tutor, as well as honest and conscientious, and I pride myself on being able to communicate with students of all ages, from pre-teen to pensioner.
I am the father of two boys, and we live in the Sutton area. My wife and I successfully tutored our sons for Sutton's grammar schools (WCGS), and they have since both graduated from top Russell Group universities. My hobbies are limited to reading these days, and I am particularly fond of English Literature. Dickens and Hardy are two of my favourites, but I am also keen on modern and less serious writers, such as Tom Sharpe and the two Rankins - Robert and Ian.
Teaching Experience:
After obtaining my first degree in Spanish with Politics and Economics, I started teaching abroad; first in Spain, then in Turkey, and later in Central Asia and the Middle East. Since retraining as a teacher of English, I have taught for more than 15 years in the UK and almost 15 years abroad, where I was Head of Department at an Institute of Higher Education for three years.
Most recently I have taught English at an independent school in Sutton, and previous to that I taught Academic Writing for East Anglia University for several years. Nowadays my tutoring is split 50:50 between English for the 11+ and Common Entrance (13+) exams, and English, Spanish, Economics and Politics & Government for the GCSE and A-level exams (all boards).
11+ and 13+ (Common Entrance)
I am very happy to report that all but one of my twelve Eleven Plus tutees passed the SET (Selective Eligibility Test) for Sutton's grammar schools last September. Of these, 100% of them passed the second stage exam and obtained their first choice of grammar or independent school. I use a selection of published materials and those of my own creation, and insist on a high standard of weekly homework in reading, writing and language knowledge. For 11+ pupils I start tutoring in Year 4 or 5, whereas 13+ pupils begin in Year 7 or 8.
GCSE and A-level
I am equally happy to report that all of my most recent GCSE and A-level students have passed well, with top grades from B to A* (A-level) and 6-9 (GCSE). The majority of those have gone on to their first choice of further and higher education institutes, and in most cases this has been achieved by my insisting on regular homework done to a high standard. For GCSE pupils I prefer to start tutoring at some time in Year 10, whereas A-level students typically begin around Year 12.
I also provide individual tutoring in ESSAY WRITING and STUDY SKILLS, as my experience has taught me that many students at GCSE, A-level and undergraduate level face real problems in these areas. By working together on your essays, substantial improvements can be made in style, organisation, argument, presentation, and much more. This way, I can teach you how produce more effective and mature essays, and thus help you to obtain better grades and increase your confidence in producing written work.
Tutoring Approach:
With every tutee I carry out an initial assessment of his/her needs and abilities, and my teaching begins from there. Typically I work on improving their weaknesses and consolidating their strengths, and this essentially involves them producing high-quality homework on a regular basis. I use both established published materials and those that I have created myself over the years. This approach appears to be successful, and I can provide references.

In May 2012 I finished the Master de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato, FP y Enseñanza de Idiomas in Spain, a program similar to a PGCE. From my own experience, I believe that learning a new language is similar to opening a door into a world full of possibilities: traveling, getting a new job, meeting new people and, in general, becoming a stronger individual both personally and professionally. In my classes, I like to tap into that part of each of my students that is exited about learning a new language, because that motivation will lead them to succeed in my class.
As a language teacher I firmly believe that in order for the students to succeed, two things must be present in the classroom environment: trust and respect. I have a lot of experience as a language student, Spanish is my native tongue and I have learned English, German and a bit of French and I have struggled with that first phrase I wanted to say out loud thinking that I was going to make a mistake or that it was going to sound funny. I understand that not everyone learns a language at the same rate and speaking in a foreign language takes courage and self-confidence. Courage and self-confidence are supported by an environment of trust and respect. In my classroom there are always ground rules: we are all here to learn, we learn from each other and we must respect each other.
The other very important aspect for me is making sure that the level of proficiency is correctly assessed. If the classes are too challenging or too basic, a negative environment not conducive to learning is created. Even if proper evaluation is made before the groups are formed, there will always be differences inside the classroom. I, as a teacher, try to be as aware as possible of this factor and strive to use that for the good of the group. Pairing a strong student with someone not as strong usually helps. Another important issue that I try to be as aware as possible is preventing the strong students from taking over the exercises and leaving behind other students that, because of either lack of confidence or not being at the same level, stop themselves from actively participating in class. In my classes, I make sure that everyone is heard and that I can evaluate progress of all my students.

Personal Description:
I am currently Head of Biology at a independent school where excellent results are expected. I have taught multiple specifications and fully understand the changes to the new specification and all parts of the course.
Tuition will take place in a classroom at the school I teach in.
I am delivering a full timetable online and have the resources to do the same one on one.
Teaching Experience:
I have been a full time teacher for 9 years and Head of Biology for 7 years.
Tutoring Approach:
As a teacher I understand parts of the course that pupils need extra help with and can coach efficient exam technique. I am comfortable teaching any part of the course for more bespoke sessions whereby there is a particular area to go over.
I have accumulated many resources to aid tutoring and am happy to share these.

Before going to university I worked in the NHS as a medical laboratory technician and phlebotomist with industrial experience in microbiology and analytical chemistry working for L'Oreal (yes I am worth it!) and Sunjuice Ltd.
After graduating from Kings College London with an immunology degree I joined Newcastle University and spent three years researching anti-cancer drugs. Deciding to leave research, I gained a PGCE teaching qualification from the University Of Wales, Newport and have been teaching A-Level biology since 2003.
I am a Chartered Biologist and a member of the Royal Society Of Biology and the Chartered College of Teaching. These professional memberships allow Tyrone to keep current in the biological and cognitive sciences, something vital to providing high quality and engaging biology teaching. I am a registered teacher with the Education Workforce Council in Wales so you can be assured of my professional status and fitness to practise as a teacher.
Teaching Experience:
I am an A-Level Biology specialist teacher. I have over 18 years of full-time A-Level Biology teaching experience with 16 to 20 year old students. This experience has allowed me to develop a dynamic approach to teaching and has allowed me to become an expert at helping students of all abilities.
Tutoring Approach:
I conduct myself to the professional standards set by the Education Workforce Council and the Royal Society of Biology.
I am a qualified teacher and so use proven teaching strategies skillfully and effectively. Some examples include Socratic questioning, compare and contrast to test understanding and interlinking.
I provide help with exam technique and with structuring long answer, QER, questions by showing the links between topics. I teach students thinking skills and why this is vital to understanding question command words and assessment objectives and how this determines the structure of an answer.
Along with covering the biological content of the specification I, also, teach the maths and practical content as well.

I am a highly enthusiastic and committed technologist and get the best benefits out of my diverse studies in design and architecture. I am a creative and inspiring person. I have a positive attitude and it motivates students and adults and builds their self-confidence.
I talk a lot with kids and bridge interest within their enthusiasm, find the launch platforms and then children show the magic synergy.
I give a free engagement session on the first meet and spare some thoughts with parent - who may subsequently lead themselves.
I seek a prize together with student in achievements competition, thus, constructive dialogue way with parents shall be established.
Teaching Experience:
I have lived working in the UK since 2006. I have substantial experience working with children of primary ages and their families.
I helped second-year boy to achieve his excellence in math and he was able to jump over a year ahead, and tuned up his sister.
Although I had my best experience in one-to-one tutoring (for young Latvian girl), I believe the most effort is to be gifted by family.

I believe that open trustful communicative method is the best way to advance personal skills. I use a variety of activities and tasks to make sessions engaging but also challenging and productive. Developing language skills is important, however, I am happy to be flexible and focus on what your child need timely first and most - whether it is: speaking or listening, reading or writing, thinking or actual design, improving pronunciation, vocabulary, or accounting.

B - bio: Biology to Yoga, 6-months to 9 months, (ideally year) environment based, observation and discovery research on Universe.
C - cad: Computer Aided Design, 1-month short (include BH) to 10-months intensive drawing skills from Brain's Hand to Digital PC.
D - DSL: Design to Production, dialogues based (seminarium) subject based instructions to develop own Design Skills Laboratory.

My practise is holistic and intuitive, using whatever materials that express me ideas
Teaching Experience:
I have run art workshops both with adults and children, I volunteer at an Arts centre to run art workshops with primary school children surrounding different techniques and art mediums. I also have some experience teaching experimental approaches to writing and sound work. I have transferable experience in printing, design, book binding, painting, drawing, performance, editing and film, sculpture, textile.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is more broad and wellbeing based. I am able to share my material knowledge, but focus more on what the creative task may give my students confidence and esteem. There is no right way to be creative, the process is about questioning and experimenting and I warmly encourage my students to be patient with themselves and trust the process.
