Personal Description:
I am a 33 year old ICT teacher and I am in my 12th year of ICT/Computing and Business teaching. I have taught in both schools and college, and teach a range of qualifications including OCR Technicals, HNC, BTEC Nationals, GCSE's, OCR Nationals, OCR GCSE and OCR iMedia. I have also taught a higher level foundation degree programme. I am easy to get along with and put a lot of my success down to forging a positive relationship with each student. I have studied and taught a variety of Business and Geography modules as well and have confidence in teaching this to degree level. In recent months I have written my first textbook for a BTEC GCSE qualification along with writing specifications for OCR qualifications. In my spare time I coach a local under 16's football side in Kidderminster.

I'm an easy going, empathetic, supportive and patient tutor who is dedicated to my students. I'm very thorough in my teaching and ensure no stone is left unturned in preparing my students for their maths exams/tests. I enjoy helping my students reach their full potential and achieve their goals. I encourage all my students to take a general interest in Mathematics as it helps them to do well. The aim of my tuition lessons is 2 fold. Firstly, it is to give my students a thorough understanding of the topics they are studying so that they are able to gain an excellent foundation. Secondly, I give my students intensive exam preparation so that they do well in their assessments. This is usually done by by doing many past papers under exam conditions. I also set my students really challenging questions that would normally not appear in their actual tests. An experienced and highly successful teacher of Chemistry to A level and GCSE Science, In 2018 I retired from my job after 17 years as Deputy Headteacher of an outstanding-rated Oxfordshire comprehensive school. Although I enjoyed the challenge of a senior management position, it was always the actual teaching which I did that gave me most pleasure - and why I made sure that in the timetables I wrote I still retained a fair amount of teaching, after all that is why I went into working in schools in the first place, and you never tire of how great it is when you get students to realise they understand something new.

I have taught Science - mostly Chemistry - for almost 40 years in three highly successful secondary schools. This included 12 years as Head of Science. I was highly regarded at each school for the level of success my students achieved at GCSE and A level. Since my retirement in 2018, I have returned to tutoring, supporting students for both GCSE and A level, and was called in to help out with A level preparation at a local independent school. In the last three years I have supported a number of students to achieve much greater success than they had expected - initially in person and more recently finding the best way to approach working online.
I am a current exam marker for A level and GCSE Chemistry with two awarding bodies. Before increased responsibilities at school ruled it out, I had extensive experience as a GCSE examiner at a Principal Examiner level, thus writing and grading GCSE papers as well as being responsible for marking them.

It was always the actual teaching that I enjoyed most about the job, and so in retirement I have enjoyed being able to continue to teach in my role as tutor. I think my approach to teaching is best summed up by some quotes from an email a former A level Chemistry student sent me on my retirement. He had collected messages from others I had taught which included: "without a doubt the best teacher I have ever had (including those at uni)", "you helped stoke the inquisitiveness that still burns today", "few share the same level of enthusiasm for teaching as yourself, even fewer who invest as much time and personal interest in helping their students achieve to their potential". I have been a Sociology teacher for over 3 years. I did my bachelors degree in European Social and Political Studies and did a PGCE in Social Sciences at UCL.

I have achieved A*A*A grades at A-Level Sociology, Politics and Geography. I have studied both AS and A2 Level Sociology with AQA and received A* Grades in all my modules - the topics I have studied were: Family and Households; Education; Crime and Deviance; Beliefs; Theory and Methods. Tutoring Approach:
I make presentations catered for the tutee for every lesson. I make them as interactive and engaging, as this is what allows for retention. Throughout the lesson I make sure that the tutee understands the content (e.g. asking the tutee to rephrase the content that is being learnt to make sure they fully grasp the topic.) I have a PhD in Probability Theory from the University of Warwick and am currently a research Data Scientist in the crop science sector and a supervisor and an affiliate lecturer at the University of Cambridge. My training is in theoretical mathematics but I love the applied side of maths and coding (modelling, data analysis, etc.).

I have 20 years of experience teaching mathematics, from A-level students to postgraduates at UK's top universities (Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick,...). I have taught both in a private capacity as well as in a university setting (tutorials, Oxbridge style supervisions, drop-in sessions, workshops).
