Personal Description:
I'm a full-time professional maths tutor with thousands of hours of experience of providing effective 1-1 maths tuition. I have a Cambridge maths degree, an abiding love for maths and a passion to help students enjoy and master maths for themselves!

I teach A-level mathematics and further mathematics, including IB and Cambridge Pre-U. I also teach mature students, and university students requiring maths to support other degree subjects. I have prepared students for exams from all the major exam boards, including Edexcel, AQA, OCR, OCR-MEI, Cambridge Pre-U and IB. I also prepare students for STEP and MAT and for numeracy or numerical reasoning tests, including the numeracy skills test for prospective teachers.

Two of my three children have been through school and university and one is still at secondary school, so I have been engaged closely with the education system at all levels and understand what both students and parents are looking for to achieve academic success.

My family and I have lived in Cranleigh for over 20 years and I have connections with a number of local schools.

Teaching Experience:
I have thousands of hours of experience of providing 1-1 maths tuition. At peak times in the year I have more than 40 active students on my books.

Tutoring Approach:
More than almost any other subject, maths needs confidence to be built, and a patient, individually tailored approach. Able students may need practice to strengthen problem-solving and eliminate errors, a more joined-up view of maths to deepen their understanding, and challenge to stretch their capabilities. Others find A-level maths harder going, and an imaginative and pictorial approach with plenty of real world examples is needed to achieve that "penny drops" moment!

Depending on the student, tuition may include any or all of: coaching to consolidate (or anticipate) teaching at school; revision for examinations; working through past examination papers; teaching and testing of specific sections of the curriculum; or more free-wheeling exploration of mathematical topics. By agreement with students and parents, homework may be set and marked.

I'm available to teach at almost any time in the week, either on weekdays (daytime or evenings) or on Saturday mornings. Sunday is my day off! I'm happy to teach in my own home, or in students' homes in Cranleigh or up to 10 miles away in the surrounding area in Surrey and West Sussex, including Guildford, Horsham and Godalming. If teaching outside Cranleigh I may agree an additional charge for travel.

I am a Japanese national who has completed eight Japanese language beginners courses (10 weeks each) as a language instructor at colleges based in Liverpool and Manchester. In a formal course review exercise, I received excellent ratings from my college students with respect to the various teaching components of the course.

I am adept at recognising how best to target my teaching approach, particularly with respect to students who have little or no knowledge of the Japanese language using my fluency in verbal and written English and Japanese.

My teaching experience includes 18 months as a language instructor to college students in Japan, in one-to-one, and group teaching as an employee at a language school. In addition, I was employed in the Japan university sector as a translator of English to Japanese and vice versa, and as a business translator involving UK and Japanese companies. Tuition is provided in verbal and written Japanese using language props as an aid to understanding, with textbooks and specialist Hiragana teaching materials. I have excellent whiteboard writing skills and I am comfortable at teaching in both formal and less formal surroundings. I have studied PGCE Mandarin at a university in the Uk and obtained a qualified teacher certificate. I am teaching Mandarin at a school in the south of England. All of my students like my teaching because not only can they learn mandarin listening, speaking, reading and writing, but they also enjoy learning about the different Chinese cultures as well as taking part in many activities at the same time. All of my GCSE year students have achieved A* grade GCSE Mandarin. I am a mandarin native speaker and I used to be a compere on the stage in China. I taught Chinese language and Chinese dancing in a Chinese school in the UK for 14 years.

•My dancing group students won the championship in the UK south west region Chinese Dancing competition in year 2012 and 2013.

I always try to make my lessons very enjoyable with Chinese music, PPT, CD, flash cards, Chinese idioms, telling stories, roll play, singing Chinese songs, videos of Chinese cultures, playing different games, computer games and debate. Lots of variety making the lessons an active learning process.

I am an English teacher with over 20 years experience teaching to GCSE, A-level and Oxbridge entrance.I have taught in both the independent and state sectors, in a large comprehensive and a small independent school. I have also tutored in Oxford and London for students from 10 to 19.

Personal Description:
I am French but have lived in Britain for years (both my children, who are in their 20's, were born here). I have also lived and worked in Spain and am fluent in the language. I then taught adults in a language school (Inlingua) in Germany, Italy and London. I came back to this country and got a job in a private school where I was the teacher in charge of Spanish. After working in this school for 21 years, I have just retired but miss the excitement of teaching.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught languages all my life, first in a Welsh comprehensive school (for 8 years), then abroad. In Spain, I taught French and English in a primary school and I then taught adults French, Spanish and English as a foreign language for Inlingua. When I returned to Britain, I taught French and Spanish to GCSE and A level in a private school. I have just retired after 21 years there and I now help a private Open University student. I enjoy teaching and would like to do more tutoring.

The site, which is used by teachers in schools, provides interactive activities for language learners. After I gave up my job as a school teacher, I started tutoring in my free time as well because helping pupils was a side of my work that I really missed.

Born in Scotland grew up in New Zealand where I went to Otago University, the oldest in NZ and gained a 1st Class BSc (hons) and a PhD in Physiology.

I then had a research career here in the UK mainly working on muscle development. I can be found in Nature doing that.
