Personal Description:
I am a 45 year old lady residing in Ashford, Kent. I originally come from Africa and have been in England for 10 years now. I trained as a primary school teacher but resigned after 16 years mainly because I wanted to travel and broaden my experiences. My hobbies are reading and writing (for leisure), travelling and sightseeing, aerobics and swimming. I could however easily call teaching one of my hobbies because I always find myself teaching people wherever I go!

Teaching Experience:
I was a primary school teacher for 16 years but I also did private tutoring as a sideline. I taught English to the age group 9-10years and outside working hours I taught adult literacy classes. I think I did well because I always found myself with so many private students to teach that sometimes it was hard to cope . All the same I enjoyed every minute of it. I have also recently qualified as an EFL teacher and am hoping to start soon.

Tutoring Approach:
When I meet a student for the first time I always believe in taking time to know them. By this I mean their well being and /or state of mind. For example, if a student has come to class only because someone has insisted, then learning will be a chore. Or if they have personal problems, or they are hungry, tired or ill then we will not get very far. So I will take a few minutes to chat and get to know their state of mind as well as reassure them before we start and if there is anything I can do to settle them then that is what I will do first. I am saying this with a view to teaching adults because that is what I hope to do. I also believe in teaching in a very relaxed environment that is conducive to learning so I always try and get rid of all distractions before we start. I have been known to be a good teacher and I hope I will continue with my good style and reputation.

I have been playing guitar from the age of 14, firstly teaching myself and then learning from teachers such as Gypie Mayo (Dr Feelgood). I formed my first band at 15 and have been teaching, playing and song-writing in bands ever since, playing in venues such as Ronnie Scott's, Dingwalls, The Marquee, Chinnery's, 100 club, playing alongside artists such as Finley Quaye, Boy George and the Brand New Heavies. My band Sentivo was on Long Lost Brother Records (Jamiroquai, SIA) making recordings for producers such as Mickey Most, Joey Negro and Mark Knight. I studied Music/Guitar Theory at a college in London where I gained my Music Diploma. I am now currently teaching guitar part time at a college in Southend and teaching private and one to one guitar lessons whilst playing, singing and writing music & lyrics for my new band

Teaching Experience:
I am an experienced and qualified Guitar tutor having achieved a Diploma in Music/Music Technology and have also completed a level 4 PTLLS teaching qualification. I am currently working at a college as a Guitar Tutor which I thoroughly enjoy and has given me great teaching experience and teacher training especially in teaching in groups and also one to one. In the last 17 years I have been tutoring and teaching privately which has given me great confidence and experience in teaching on a one to one basis. I also hold a current DBS certificate. It is your lesson so you choose what you want to learn whether it is chords/progressions, melodies, scales/modes or songs or maybe tools to improve your own compositions and song writing. ¡Hola! I am Alba. I was born in the south of Spain and have lived there for the majority of my life. I did Spanish Studies as a degree in Huelva (near Seville), and later enrolled in an MA for Spanish Teaching as a Foreign Language in my home town, Granada. I then moved to the UK to work as an Assistant Teacher of Spanish in London, which led me to taking the PGCE course and acquiring Qualified Teacher Status. I am currently a teacher of Spanish at Secondary level in inner Birmingham.

Back in Spain I used to teach in an independent school in Ronda (Málaga), where we offered from one-to-one lessons to small classes of beginners to advanced level, and I absolutely loved it. In my experience, my students thrive in a more personalised environment of their choosing.

I am an experienced tutor who has been tutoring for the last 25 years. I teach from KS3 to A levels, Maths, Chemistry and Physics.
I started my career as a Chemical Engineer and completed my PhD in that subject.
In Industry I have worked on Polymers, Pharmaceuticals and ceramics. I have designed towers using principles of Maths and Science and have been able to work out, how long it will take a ceramic to reach a temperature inside a furnace.
I have also worked on Pharmaceuticals and in particular enzymatic reactors and their Mathematical modelling. I also carried out calculation on diffusion through membranes.

I have been teaching for some 25 years on a one to one basis and to groups. All my students end up in getting admission to a University of their choice and a course to their liking. At the moment I am doing online tutoring. Online tutoring has many benefits which includes cost and the comfort of learning in familiar surroundings. . Online teaching has many positive aspects as compared to a traditional classroom.

I start by assessing the student in terms of present standard and academic potential. Once I have found out the level, I then collaborate with the parent or guardian to set targets.
My approach is a question and answer one, where the topic is discussed and any misconceptions are rectified and corrected.

I moved to the UK in 1989 and have stayed ever since. I spent 2 years as a French Assistant in High Schools in Leeds and Harrogate and then completed a one year HND in International Business at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Following three years as 'Conference Organiser' for businesses in Dewsbury i decided i wanted to teach and returned to Leeds Metropolitan University to complete a degree in Secondary Education.

Since then i have worked as a French Teacher in Secondary and Primary schools in Yorkshire and Merseyside. Whilst bringing up my family i took the opportunity to offer private French Tuition and have been doing so ever since.

Hello! I'm a primary school teacher with four years of classroom experience at an Ofsted-rated 'Outstanding' school.
