In my years of teaching students, I have discovered that most students fail because they study the wrong thing. Look at it this way. To understand the working of a balance sheet [statement of financial position] most students memorise the order in which elements are applied. This is the cardinal sin.

To be a successful student you must understand why we need a balance sheet and what information users of this particular financial statement are looking for. When you look at it from a user perspective [understanding who those users are and what they want] your mind no longer tries to remember what was after what but your mind starts to actually determine what needs to be there to satisfy the users questions regarding a companies affairs.

Having completed my first degree in French and German at Oxford University in June 2013, I returned to Belfast to complete first a MA in Medieval History, and then a further MA in Translation Studies.

At the same time, I began building up a portfolio career as a freelance tutor and translator, allowing me to live out my passion for language, literature, and culture (alongside digger manuals, pharmaceutical texts, and other oddities) on a daily basis.

Teaching Experience:
My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate years. At Oxford I gained two years' experience with Jacari, a charity that teaches English to local children of a different mother tongue. I also provided tuition to students of GCSE history in local Oxford schools.

I spent my year abroad teaching English to pupils aged 10 to 19 at a German grammar school, and have since instructed a number of tutees of ages 8 to 65+ in English Language, French, German and Italian.

I have seen students` confidence in their abilities increases and their understanding deepens. Both students and parents have offered positive feedback from the great improvement in their grade as a result of my tuition. For example, a student`s grade in A Level Physics improved from originally an E to an A after my tuition, while others attend their preferred schools after help revision for their entrance exams.

Teaching Experience:
After various school placements, such as teaching classes at St Aidan`s (ranked amongst the highest achieving comprehensive schools in the country), for over five years I have helped a multitude of pupils ranging from as young as six through to mature students.
I also mark papers as a Team Leader of examiners for a major board. I feel this gives me an invaluable perspective when preparing my students for their own tests.
I am familiar with the different examination boards, particularly AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CIE and ISEB. After my tuition, candidates attained the necessary grades for their university offers, including from Oxbridge, to study courses relevant to our preparation. I also have experience aiding with IB and professional skills tests together with Pre-U and IGCSE.
I am happy to offer tuition for all other syllabuses as well, for example WJEC and for free-standing maths qualifications.

Photography:

As a photographer I have been teaching now for more than ten years, I teach individuals from complete novices right up to those with aspirations of Royal Society distinctions. Martial Arts/Self Defence:

I'm a high-ranking martial arts instructor (6th degree black belt with nearly 40 years experience) and have been teaching now for around 30 years.

At my school in Dursley I have students of all ages from five years up to those in their sixties's. I teach courses and seminars to groups of all sizes. I've taught in schools, worked with police and youth groups etc. I often teach private lessons to individuals, both from my own school and those with no prior experience. It goes without saying that I have a current DBS, first aid and am fully insured. I can offer 1-1 coaching in person or online consulting to school owners, or motivation/mindset for those looking to take their training to the next level.

This year my students all received an A or A* at A Level and at GCSE all earned a grade 8 or higher. I have competed a degree in Geography (BSc) at Queen Mary UoL and hold a PGCE in the subject. I have completed a Masters (MA) in Geography Education at the Institute of Education UoL and I have attended a number of training sessions on the process behind the marking of exams, so have an in depth knowledge on how to attain high grades. I am Stefanos, I am a primary school teacher, special needs teacher and a Greek language tutor currently working in Bristol, England. I am coming from Patras, Greece, where I spent most of my childhood and early adult life. I am passionate in supporting people of all ages to achieve their personal educational goals whatever these may be.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching in Special Education for 6 years supporting students aged from 7 to 16 years old with a range of learning, mental health and medical difficulties. The last couple years I am privileged enough to work in Primary Education and in teaching Greek as a second language.

For the last 10 years, I have been working as a Greek language tutor. I have had the pleasure to teach a variety of students across all ages, ethnic backgrounds and abilities, from primary-aged Greek students to teenagers and adult learners in the United Kingdom, Greece and on-line from all over the globe.

One my proudest Greek tutoring achievements is to be supporting a group of adult learners with their conversational Greek practice every week for the last 6 consecutive years. This particular group of learners (which I now also call friends) have experienced the positive impact of our lessons in their casual visits in Greece every year.

I do not follow a single approach in my teaching practice because I do not believe in the one-fits-all method. I am a professional fine artist with many years experience of teaching in Colleges and Universities both in the UK and the USA. I am committed to teaching and this to some extent informs my work I have continued my practice as a fine artist throughout my teaching career and I have continued to exhibit both in Europe the USA and Dubai. I have a studio in Crete Greece from where I regularly travel to various European Capitals to visit important museums and galleries and these experiences are fed back into my teaching.

I have a Master's in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art in London and I am a professional fine artist with 30 years' experience of teaching in the field of Art and Design. In 2014 I was an early adopter of teaching the visual arts remotely to a range of students from different countries and backgrounds. Over that period I taught over 1000 students and as Head of Foundation Studies, I supervised the instruction of many thousands more. I have been responsible for strategies, content, and delivery of that covered media from fine art drawing and painting, photography, concept design, animation, theatre design, graphic design, and illustration. My approach across these disparate and rich media is to enable students to understand the connections between theory and practice and of how to develop a creative process which is research and concept-led. I continue my practice as a painter in my studio in Crete while exhibiting most recently in galleries in Greece, Switzerland and Spain. I regularly visits European museums and galleries and I am familiar with Art and Design from a global perspective. This knowledge is fed back into my teaching and evidenced in the high-quality work my students produce.

My approach to tutoring is to work with the students regarding whatever project they may be working on. In some cases I write a project for them. I speak online face to face to each student once a week and encourage them to upload work in-between our meetings for advice and comment. As a TV producer, I have worked around the world with a multitude of different types of people, and I pride myself on the ability to connect with individuals from all walks of life. I am half Spanish, so have always had a knowledge of and been surrounded by the language. I am currently working on perfecting my fluency, so am working through the formal qualifications this year, currently operating at Pre-Advanced (B2). At this level, I am more than equipped to tutor in Spanish up to A Level.

I trained in dance from the age of 3, and when I was about 13/14, started helping with the teaching of the younger children at the school. This was where I discovered my passion for helping others to learn. I took a huge amount of pleasure in helping people figure out a way to finally crack something they'd been finding difficult.

When I then went to uni, I spent my spare time working at Salford Young People's University to lead marketing and radio production workshops, amongst others. Upon leaving education, whilst trying to start my career as a television producer, I worked part time in a local high school as an administrative assistant, exam invigilator and cover support officer, covering classes when teachers were absent. Having obtained majority A grades at school myself, I found a great deal of joy working across all national curriculum subjects to help students complete their work and understand things that they were finding tricky.

Over the last decade, I have spent a great deal of time outside of my day job leading workshops in schools, universities and other teaching organisations to inform, educate and empower young people to pursue a career in television. I have also mentored upwards of 80 individuals, each time taking a person-centred approach to figure out what is right for that particular person. My mentees describe me as someone who is gentle, patient, knowledgeable and inspires confidence. There are testimonials from some of my former mentees.
