I have taught at both primary- and secondary-school levels, with my students ranging between the ages of 6 and 16.

I can also help with entrance examinations for secondary school (including verbal and non-verbal reasoning), and I have provided mentorship and coaching when it comes to UCAS application forms, personal statements and CV writing.

Whilst I enjoyed some of the subjects at school, certain subjects and topics (including Maths!) didn't come naturally to me. I achieved 7A*s and 5As at GCSE and studied Maths, Biology & Chemistry at A-Level.

Tutoring Approach:
I have a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology and my tutoring approach is a student-centred one. My experience covers tutoring, mentoring and coaching and I use a combination of the three in my work.

I am yet to come across a student who doesn't possess the potential to improve. More often than not, it is the large class sizes at school, or a teacher whose approach isn't the right fit, which explains why a student doesn't understand a particular subject, or particular topics within that subject.

Through the 1-to-1 work I do with students, not only have I witnessed some remarkable grade improvements but also some amazing transformations in confidence. I strongly feel that the work I do is more than merely improving grades for exams.

⭐ My philosophy is that if you are struggling with a particular subject or topic, it's not your fault and there's nothing wrong with you. It simply means you've not been taught in a way that makes sense to you (or you've not been given the time and attention to be taught properly - in a big class and with the pressures on teachers to deliver an extensive curriculum).

I am a professional fine artist with many years experience of teaching in Colleges and Universities both in the UK and the USA. I am committed to teaching and this to some extent informs my work I have continued my practice as a fine artist throughout my teaching career and I have continued to exhibit both in Europe the USA and Dubai. I have a studio in Crete Greece from where I regularly travel to various European Capitals to visit important museums and galleries and these experiences are fed back into my teaching.

I have a Master's in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art in London and I am a professional fine artist with 30 years' experience of teaching in the field of Art and Design. In 2014 I was an early adopter of teaching the visual arts remotely to a range of students from different countries and backgrounds. Over that period I taught over 1000 students and as Head of Foundation Studies, I supervised the instruction of many thousands more. I have been responsible for strategies, content, and delivery of that covered media from fine art drawing and painting, photography, concept design, animation, theatre design, graphic design, and illustration. I am a retired maths teacher who has been successfully tutoring maths for the past 15 years. I graduated from Imperial College, London, with a first class honours degree and, for most of my full time working career, I was a computer software engineer. However, at the end of my career, I was a lecturer at the Royal School of Signalling, teaching mainly Data Networks but also Mathematics. I am married with 4 children and (to date) 7 grandchildren with whom we seem to have taken on a new career as child minders.

When teaching maths at the Royal School Of Signalling, I was told I was doing a great job, particularly at building the confidence of students who had previously struggled while at school. During my time there, I gained a CFET teaching qualification and, based on my success, started offering private tuition. I found that I enjoyed the one to one lessons and tayloring the sessions for each individual student. I have now been successfully tutoring maths for 15 years. I have taught GCSE and A level maths for all the exam boards (Edexecl, AQA, OCR), plus for some entrance exams and scholarship exams. As well as in person tutoring, I have been sucesssfully teaching online via Zoom; I have a drawing pad and document camera to help.

I understand Maths to be a progressive series of concepts; the simpler, earlier concepts must be fully mastered before the more advanced ones can be readily understood. For example, I have come across students, even at A level, whose understanding of basic algebra is incomplete and this is holding them back from learning the more advanced topics. I therefore start by ensuring that these basic skills have been mastered before moving on. This continues throughout the student's progress, whether we are at Foundation GCSE or A level. I ensure each topic is properly understood before moving on and always make time to revise and consolidate. Basically the student sets the pace. Throughout, I try to make our sessions relaxed and enjoyable so that they build the student's confidence.
