My approach to proof-editing / English checking is to look primarily at the language. For some clients - university students in particular - it is not appropriate to offer an editorial service as this goes against the rules of university submissions. However, where I think a mistake has been made or something is not clearly expressed - and it is not a simple matter of correcting the language - then I will flag it up to the student so they can look at it again.

My main aim with my tutees is to build their confidence and enthusiasm for the subject. To this end I concentrate on teaching the skills they require to achieve the grades they want. My role is not to replace the teaching they get at school but to compliment it so a tutoring session could concentrate on planning an essay the student has been asked to write or going through specific areas the student needs help with. In our lessons, we will draw diagrams and break problems down into bite-size steps, and I will train you to ask yourself helpful questions such as "What do I already know?", "Is this a sensible answer?" and "Did I expect those units?".

I am used to sympathetically coaching young people in unfamiliar skills, having also been the principal teacher for a university folk dance club for five years.

Personal Description:
I am a mother of a child who has dyslexia and I have always supported her overcoming her barriers to learning. We both love reading, getting outside and playing card and board games together.

Teaching Experience:
I have been working in education for almost 30 years. For over a decade, I have previously worked as a teaching assistant supporting individual children, adapting classroom learning to meet their specific needs, both academic and emotional.
I am now a qualified teacher working full time in a local school.

Tutoring Approach:
My passion about children's education has led me to develop a deep understanding of how children learn and how to support children along their learning journey. I believe in a holistic approach and suit my teaching to the needs of each child with adaptive and adjustable methods so that they can achieve to their best potential.
