I hold a Physics Degree from Oxford University and am now a commercial airline pilot. I have extensive experience tutoring over the past fifteen years and also spent three years teaching future airline pilots for their ground school exams.

I tutor Maths (including Further Maths) and Physics at A-Level and below. I feel that Maths and Science should be fun and enjoyable to learn - and feel that if they are taught in the right way this can be easy to achieve.

Teaching Experience:
I started tutoring when I left Oxford University and have a very successful record with my past students. My last student enjoyed her GCSE tutoring so much that she went on to choose both maths and physics at A-level.

I also spent three years teaching young adults to prepare them for the examinations required for Airline pilots. My subjects were Meteorology and General Navigation - science and maths based subjects.

Whilst at University I completed a "teaching physics in schools" module and spent time as a science teaching assistant in a local Oxfordshire school.

I feel it is very important for learning to be interesting and enjoyable. I use my passion for Science and Maths to pass this enjoyment on to my students. I was born in Hamburg, Germany, am 28 years old and moved to Cardiff in 2013 to study towards a Master of Music degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. I completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Aberdeen in 2013 and graduated with 1st Class Honours.

I am an active performer, accompanist and composer, which I believe is very important in order to be able to speak from experience when teaching your instrument.

Tutoring Approach:
I use various teaching resources which I have both collected and created myself to cover all areas of piano playing, i.e. sight-reading, theory, scales, technical exercises, duo and ensemble playing. I find it more important (especially for a young person) to develop a natural relationship with the instrument and to learn to love the sound of it by making it and listening to it rather than to merely focus on achieving grades as quickly as possible.

I believe that music should be a social activity. This is why I encourage all of my students to perform in front of each other at regular informal concerts as well as festivals and competitions, if the student feels ready.

Luke has a BA (hons) in Biblical Studies and Theology and has been reading and studying the works of the Early Church Fathers for over five years, and has recently published a book detailing the early church, "40 Days with the Father" (available on Amazon).

It is important that the principles are understand because all else flows from this. I have graduated with a first MBiol (Hons) Biology degree at the University of St Andrews. During my final year of university, I have been involved with the Coronavirus Tutoring Initiative (CTI) which consists of volunteering to tutor biology to students that cannot afford private tutoring but were affected by the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The student and I will discuss the subjects of interest and I`ll try to let them figure out the answers themselves rather than me giving them a ready answer. This way they will be ready to answer all types of questions rather than trying to memorise an answer and be flustered in an exam setting if something they haven`t seen before comes up. In order to achieve this, I usually prepare my lessons in advance. I give exercises to the students to complete before our sessions so we can discuss them and identify challenging topics. Once these topics have been identified, I try to explain them through audiovisual measures (diagrams and videos), as well as examples from personal experience, which places the theory in a real-life context which is more memorable.
