Personal Description:
"Julian is a fantastic tutor and enjoys teaching his subject with great zest and enthusiasm. My sons scored A* in Geography. Thank you Julian"
DUE TO DEMAND AND EXISTING RELATIONSHIPS, I AM LOOKING FOR ONLY 2 NEW CLIENTS FOR 2025-2026.
I am passionate about Geography! I believe it is THE subject that defines our era.
This philosophy informs my approach to teaching vibrant, exciting student-friendly lessons in school and similar sessions in the tutoring experience.
I have been a head of department at leading schools in NW London/SW Herts since 2017. I have examined for AQA across all components (Paper 1 Physical Geography, Paper 2 Human, NEA/Coursework). My knowledge of both curricula and examinations is outstanding. Departmental results at my current school (high achieving independent in Harrow) are the best in the school and amongst the best in the whole area.
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching in some of the area's best schools for around 20 years. Prior to this I was the director of education at an established UK children's charity.
During my career to date I have been quick to establish myself as a dynamic, confident and compelling teacher. Results under my supervision have been amongst the best in the area.
I develop student-friendly resources that have been adopted across the department by other colleagues. I lead the department on many ICT-related developments.
Some quotes from professional review/other tutees:
"Amazing tutor, he helped me improve in a short amount of time. I would recommend"
"In a very short time helped give my son the confidence and knowledge to lift his a-levels grades substantially. Would highly recommend him"
Tutoring Approach:
For some students, gaining confidence with many of the concepts and ideas presented in geography at Key Stage 4 or 5 is difficult - especially considering the pressures of coursework, ongoing assessment and the natural workload provided by other subjects. Yet these concepts underpin much of the reality that geography deals with.
My approach to tutoring is to enthuse the often overwhelmed student first and foremost with 'real', accessible geography. By using interactive ICT-based resources and practical assessment tools such as course guides, question mark schemes and exemplar work, the student can access previously hard-to-grasp material, and gain a critical understanding of the assessment process.
My belief is that you would not attempt to fix a car without instructions. I help the student interpret the manual to their course so they themselves can get behind the wheel and drive to success!
Please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss your needs if this fits!

Personal Description:
Hello, I live in Sunderland. I have a B A (Hons) degree and a Certificate in Education specialising in Maths and English and I have also attended relevant courses (for example in Dyslexia Awareness) and have a Counselling certificate.
Teaching Experience:
I have had approximately 30 years experience of teaching English and Maths and this has included helping pupils to prepare for the SATs tests and for GCSEs. I have worked with children and adults on a one to one basis and in groups and fully understand the needs of both.
I have had extensive experience teaching in schools and am therefore familiar with the requirements of the national curriculum at key stages 1, 2 3 and 4.
I also have a vast array of resources and past exam papers and can also create resources that are tailor made for a specific pupil.
Tutoring Approach:
I enjoy working creatively and will tailor learning to the particular interests of the pupil if necessary as I feel that this makes learning more interesting and meaningful for them. I have established excellent relationships with pupils in the past and have a sensitive, caring and thoughtful approach.
In the first session I carry out an assessment in order to get an idea of the needs of the pupil and use this as a trial session. Pupils don't have to continue unless they are happy with everything
If you need to cancel giving less than 24 hours notice then unfortunately I have to charge for the session as I will have prepared for it

Personal Description:
I am an energetic, enthusiastic and well qualified Mandarin teacher, who has already had over 10 years of teaching experience, including UK, Germany, Belgium, Taiwan and China, two international schools, two UK independent schools and four different language centres.
Teaching Experience:
Lecturer of Mandarin Chinese, University of West England Jan.2016- present
I am presently teaching one lecture per week in the Business and Law department to classes of up to 30 adult students. With the use of a variety of materials and drawing on my past experiences of creating a Chinese programme, I have created a suitable syllabus for beginners who will likely be using their new language skills in their future business positions.
Teacher of Chinese, Badminton School, Bristol, UK Sept.2015 - Sept.2018
This permanent Monday -Friday position gave me my first experience in preparing students for GCSE, iGCSE and A-level examinations. Due to how international my school is, I teach native Chinese speakers and non-native speakers. This breadth of student-base has expanded my skills considerably. From teaching students their first lesson to analysing millennia-old Chinese literature with native-speakers, I have enjoyed this challenge. I have developed the Chinese syllabus while here, which now has curriculum classes in years 7, 8 & 9. Last year saw my first two non-native speaking students take their GCSEs; both my British and my Korean student got As, after I had taught them from beginner level, two years previously. I am also the GCSE examiner for the oral summer examinations.
Teacher of Mandarin Chinese, Bristol Grammar School, Bristol, UK Jan. 2014 -July 2015
I taught Mandarin Chinese to a range of ages, all of whom were absolute beginners. My youngest group consisted of six-year-olds and my oldest group consisted of seventeen-year-olds. I brought Chinese into the school, which continues to teach compulsory Chinese classes to year 7, even after I moved on to Badminton School in 2015
Teacher of Mandarin Chinese, Bristol Language School, Bristol, UK Sept. 2014 - Aug. 2015
This part-time position saw me teaching Chinese to different levels of adult learners in the evening. My students ranged from absolute beginners to B1 level.
Teacher of Mandarin Chinese, International House Bristol, Bristol, UK Sept. 2013 - Jan. 2016
This part-time position saw me teaching Chinese to different levels of adult learners in the evening. My students ranged from absolute beginners to B1 level.
Teacher of Mandarin Chinese, Ms. Sun's Mandarin Corner, Beijing, China Sept. 2012 - June 2013
After graduating from BLCU, Beijing, where I completed my Masters in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, I set up and taught in this school, which added to my ever-growing classroom experience by teaching students of all ages. I taught up to twenty hours per week, and had students from eight different countries. Although I tried to use Mandarin whenever I could, I could confidently use English or German to explain certain points if necessary.
Teacher of Mandarin and EAL, Rego British International School, Beijing, China Sep. 2012 - Dec. 2012
A very rewarding and challenging position, which expanded my teaching experience tremendously and offered me experience teaching the English curriculum (including GCSE Mandarin), as well as time teaching children with a vast range of ages and levels of Chinese. I taught both Mandarin Chinese and many aspects of Chinese culture and history.
Lecturer of Mandarin Chinese, Chinese Centre, Wen Hua Uni, Taipei, Taiwan July 2011 - Jan. 2012
In this exciting position, I taught Europeans, Asians, North Americans and Australasian all as part of my one-to-one and group class programmes.
Lecturer of Mandarin Chinese, Chinese Centre, Fu-Jen University, Taipei, Taiwan April - June 2011
Keen to get back into the classroom and get some first-hand experience to assist me while writing my Masters' dissertation, I got a position at my previous university, where I met some very interesting students from countries such as Honduras, Vanuatu, Germany, Paraguay, Italy, Britain, The USA, Japan and Korea.
Teacher of Mandarin Chinese, Taipei Language Institute, Taipei, Taiwan Jan. - April 2011
This was a useful experience, as I taught both group classes as well as handful of one-to-one classes.
Practical Lecturer of Mandarin Chinese, Sinology Department, The University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany Sept. - Dec. 2010
Using the textbook "Taiwan Today", I taught my class both Mandarin Chinese and about Taiwanese culture. I really appreciate my time here as I was given the freedom to create my own programme and to create each lecture. During my time at The University of Heidelberg, I covered a few of my colleagues' first semester Mandarin classes.
Lecturer of Mandarin Chinese, Beijing Language and Culture University, Beijing, China 2009-2010
During the first year of my Masters course, I assisted and taught a number of Chinese courses.
Chinese, English and German tutor 2006 - 2010
I have taught private adult classes in both Taiwan and China. This was my first professional experience of teaching people from such a varied cultural background.
Tutoring Approach:
I am a calm, patient and energetic teacher. I love sharing my culture and native language with students, as I love travelling and learning new languages and cultures myself.
Everybody's development must be attended to individually. As a teacher, I am able to ascertain and cater for the educational needs of every one of my students. I know that every learner will have varying speeds of learning and will be able to access the content of the lesson in different ways. In my ten years of teaching experience, I have taught from primary school children up to international business people.
Whether you want a tutor for GCSE or A-level preparation, inspiring a love of the language in younger learners, want to learn Mandarin for fun, travelling, for business or for HSK exam, I have had experience teaching all types of language learners.

Personal Description:
Hi, I am currently a 20 year old university student living in Birmingham, studying Medicine at the University of Birmingham. I enjoy working with children and passing on my knowledge in an understandable way, as someone who has recently undertaken GCSE's and A levels myself I feel that I can offer the highest degree of teaching and revision to students aged 11-16 through use of my recent personal experiences of coping with exams and figuring out effective learning and revision methods for certain areas of each subject
Teaching Experience:
I have mentored year 4 students in maths before as part of a scheme within school, as well as year 7 students. In total I have tutored 8 students over the last 2 years, all of whom achieved what they set out to achieve when I started my tutoring, from getting into the Liverpool Blue Coat School (the school that achieved the highest national GCSE grades the year that I sat GCSE's), to getting a grade 8 in maths (A* equivalent)
Tutoring Approach:
I feel that my unique selling point is that as a student myself, I can relate to the struggles that other students encounter when subjects are taught and delivered to them. My weaknesses and qualms during the GCSE and A level period were only resolved by my own active learning to teach myself topics which I couldn't grasp correctly from lessons, and I feel that these are areas and topics many students will find difficulty in understanding, whether it be in Maths, Biology or Chemistry, and so I believe I can effectively pass on my knowledge to help students achieve the highest grades by learning the trickier topics from a different perspective. I can also tutor in other subjects such as Physics, however my strengths are definitely greatest in the subjects I have listed, as well as in tutoring for 11+ exams.

Teaching Experience:

Personal Description:
Geographical and geological educational issues, especially those impacting on SW England.
Most sporting activities and currently involved in gig rowing, having rowed in the World Championships in the Scilly Isles several times.
Formerly Head of Soccer at Truro School.
Now volunteer as a tour guide for the National Trust at a historic tin and copper mine.
Teaching Experience:
I have taught for over 30 years in both the state and independent secondary sectors, being a Head of Department in the latter. In my previous post we won the prestigious 'Good Schools Guide School of the Year' on several occasions for best 'A' Level geology results in the U.K.
Tutoring Approach:
I would expect to initiate pupil-centred learning involving the student as much as possible in debate and discussion, avoiding being a merely dispassionate purveyor of facts. Teaching should not involve lecturing, but encourage guided self-discovery with the student, especially at 'A' Level.

Personal Description:
Hi there,
My name is Dilafruz (Dilya) and I am originally from Tajikistan. My mother tongue is Persian Tajik and also, Russian.
Before I moved to London, I was learning English at university and graduated in Economics and Finance. My passion has always been to live in a city where I could practice and perfect my English.
8 years later, I have three young children (ages 2-7 years) and a baking business. I speak English fluently, have picked up Turkish through TV series and now learning Arabic online! I would like to share my passion for languages and Maths by teaching other children and assist them with their school work / studies.
Teaching Experience:
Not only do I tutor my own children and help them with their school work, but I teach my family friends children too.
In Tajikistan, I used to do babysitting part time which involved having study sessions with the kids after dinner. This involved tutoring and aiding them with their day-to-day homework in various subjects such as: Russian, Maths, History and Art.
Tutoring Approach:
I'm confident in taking lessons online as long as it's through video. My teaching approach is very interactive and only through facial expressions, can I truly see if my tutees are understanding the topics / subjects I'm covering.
My prior experience in babysitting and also having three children has taught me not only patience, but compassion and understanding. I maintain a positive and encouraging attitude at all times, so that my tutees also feel confident and are able to ask me questions without feeling intimidated. I'm also very organised and will come prepared for each lesson to ensure I make the most of the time I have with my tutee.

Personal Description:
I am a self-taught guitarist of over 20 years and am technically proficient to an advanced level, there are very few guitar techniques that I'm unfamiliar with and I am continually learning more. I've performed in a variety of venues/situations, whether as a solo performer, in a band or as part of the accompaniment for musicals, each of which require different approaches and disciplines. I've also done plenty of recorded performances which also requires a host of different skills.
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching guitar for over 10 years on an ad hoc basis with private students. I also currently work at Coleg Y Cymoedd, teaching live performance and music rehearsal skills for the last 2 years. I have helped students of all ages over the years go from complete beginners to accomplished players, as well as taking intermediate players and help them to learn more advanced techniques.
Tutoring Approach:
My teaching method involves the same method by which I teach myself - focused practice and repetition. A lot of people try to run before they can walk, spending a couple of days learning chords then trying to play complicated lead parts. What you will work on with me, is having a solid foundation on which to build. We will work together to make sure that when you learn techniques, you learn them the right way first time. We'll do things slowly and smoothly, because slow and smooth equals fast in the long run.
Fundamentally though, we will go at your pace. Everyone learns different skills at different speeds, so there is no pressure to learn anything in a particular time frame, the key is for there to be progress little by little. Equally we will tailor lessons to your wants/needs as much as possible and so you're learning the type of guitar playing that most appeals to you.
A lot of tutors take an approach of getting you to go through guitar grades and whilst that is something we can look into if it appeals to you, I personally have never found grades to be worth anything and certainly not an accurate measurement of someone's ability/talent, so with that in mind, going through grades is not something I will be pushing you to do.
I advise for the first lesson (which is free) to be 1 hour so we can get to know each other and put together a bit of a plan for you. After that I recommend lessons be 30 minutes per lesson per week, as the main goal of lessons is for you to show me what you've practiced in the previous week and for me to then advise you on what can be improved etc., or if it's time for you to start working on something else. In my experience 30 minutes is more than sufficient to achieve this but if you feel you'd like more tuition then of course we can explore that.
Please note the rate shown is an hourly rate. 30 minute lessons will be £15 in person or £12.50 online.
