Teaching Experience:
I have a years experience as a Maths teacher within a secondary school in Birmingham. This involved teaching a variety of Maths classes, of different sizes, abilities and age ranges from 11-16 as well as being a form tutor. I have had experience of tutoring an A-Level student, a year 9 student and a GCSE student. In eight short weeks I was able to help this student achieve the desired A-grade she had hoped for, improving by a massive two grades. The huge feeling of pride and satisfaction from this sparked a passion for teaching mathematics. I have also completed the Teach First Insight Programme. The final week of this scheme involved teaching in Nene Park Academy in Peterborough and I was able to give a year 9 class a mathematics lesson.

I will adapt my tutoring approach to the needs of the student, but I suggest participatory lessons. I will explain the lesson of the day during the first half hour and make sure the student has understood it by giving them a fun oral or written exercise to do during the last 20min. I was diagnosed as dyslexia went I joined university, and this has yet to stop me from being successful. I have been a qualified geography teacher for the past 12 years, and was head of department for just shy of 8 years. I specialise in the AQA exam board at both GCSE and A Level. For the past 8 years I have also been an examiner for AQA at GCSE level and this past year I examined for AQA at A Level.
Tutoring Approach:
The main thing when it comes to tutoring is finding a way that matches how the student learns. It it's important for the student to feel comfortable with myself and they are not afraid to ask for help when they need it.

Grammar: Engaging, nature-inspired activities from The Natural Curriculum, linking learning to wildlife and the environment.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every child deserves a calm, supportive environment where learning is a joy. I combine strong subject knowledge with creative, engaging lessons that make even the most challenging topics feel approachable and enjoyable. My aim is always to build solid foundations in maths and English while nurturing essential lifelong skills such as problem-solving, resilience, and curiosity.
Over the years, I've seen children flourish when they feel believed in, inspired, and challenged in the right way.
Each child follows their own bespoke learning plan as part of a small group and works at a level and pace that is appropriate for them. The student to tutor ratio is a maximum of 5:1.

Born with an early curiosity for the natural world, Catherine pursued her studies in physics with determination. She earned her B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Physics from Wroclaw University, where she explored the growth of metals on alloy surfaces. Her doctoral research, "Growth of Pb on Ni3Al(111)", reflected her keen ability to investigate materials at the atomic level. She later expanded her academic journey at Warwick University, completing a second Ph.D. in Physics on "Growth and Characterisation of Metal Alloy and Metal Oxide Surfaces." Her work contributed to advancing the understanding of thin-film growth and nanostructures, leading to several publications in respected international journals. Among her noted contributions are studies on ultrathin metal layers, titanium dioxide films, and surface morphology, establishing her reputation as a careful and innovative experimentalist.
After years in research, Catherine transitioned into education, determined to share her scientific knowledge in a way that would have a direct impact on young people.
