I am a postgraduate from the Documentary Photography course at Univeristy of Wales, Newport (graduated in 2000). I have worked as a professional freelance photographer since graduating giving photography classes, workshops and conferences to students of all levels and ages. I have extensive experience a reportage photographer, not only in undertaking magazine assignments but also wedding and portrait work. As a photographer and tutor I can offer an in-depth knowledge of darkroom practice as well as digital software editing(i.e. Photoshop, Capture One Pro, Lightroom), having worked both with film and digital media for the past 15 years.

Teaching Experience:
I have over ten years experience in giving photography classes and workshops to young learners (residential camps giving classes to children aged 11-16 years of age) and adults at all levels and abilities. I have taught an extensive range of photographic genres e.g Portraits, Studio Flash, Landscape, Creative Photography, Night Photography, Creating A Narrative(Reportage) and Wedding Photography.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching is contextual and task based. I plan and work to the individual needs of the pupil(s), making sure that the classes are instructive, concise and interesting. I believe with these elements the student feels more stimulated and the information in the learning process is absorbed more easily. Above all I concentrate on the student's individual learning potential by giving them the confidence as well as positive and constructive feedback throughout the lessons. I can also use such tools as Skype and a whiteboard to provide online distance learning, when travel is not possible for myself or the learner.

I graduated from Cambridge University with a BA in English Literature, and then from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, graduating with a BA in acting, where I was the recipient of the Noel Coward Scholarship from 2008-2011. In July 2011 I won the Michael Bryant Award at the National Theatre, for verse speaking and Shakespeare.

My approach to tutoring is tailored to the individual's needs; firstly finding ways of fully explaining a concept, then cementing them with useful and memorable material to build students' confidence. My main objective would be to aid the student in understanding not only the specifics of the work but also the broader aspects of it, which I believe provides a truer grounding in - and enjoyment of - a subject. By making the work useful and enjoyable, and by finding alternative and effective approaches to study, I hope that my tuition will shed new light on subjects for students.

My passion is building confidence and fostering resilient approaches to problem solving.

I'm an author and a poet, I have had many poems published, won first prize in an international poetry competition (2011) and have also brought out two collections, which are on sale on Amazon. In 2015 I published my memoir A Hippopotamus at the Table. Set in South Africa in the 1970s. I'm about to publish my second memoir and published a book called Writing Memoir. My approach to tutoring is Socratic in delivery, to draw from the student what they know, what their interests are and expand on that. I think learning English should be broad and interesting and make people think. My teaching method is through a conversational approach, short written exercises for identifying strengths and weaknesses, building on strengths and working on areas that require a structured approach for improvement.
