Based in Wantage (Oxfordshire) Jim has been providing drum tuition to players of all ages and level of ability since 2003.

He has been teaching private drum tuition for 7 years from his home studio. Many of his students have been with him for a long time. His teaching is based largely on the Gigajam syllabus and he likes to think that he brings the syllabus to life and makes it interesting and relevant for his students.

Teaching Experience:
He always make sure that he tailors his teaching to suit each student as an individual and that he treats them as such. Regardless of their age or ability he gives them all the same amount of attention and always does his utmost to support and motivate them.

He has been a gigging drummer since the age of 14 and has played in numerous bands at numerous gigs and events. He draws upon his own experiences (good and bad) to empathise with his students and to help and assist where he can, be it with a tuning issue, a drum repair or upgrade or helping them to stay focused while learning a new and sometimes difficult technique.

He is a well motivated, outgoing and cheerful person and that comes across in his lessons. He likes to keep things upbeat (no pun intended) and fun, as he believes that music should be something that is enjoyable and pleasurable and not a chore.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2010 with a first-class degree in Mathematics with honours, having previously achieved grade A in Maths, Further Maths and Physics at A level. Since graduating, I have worked full-time as a private maths tutor.

I've always enjoyed maths (even if I didn't always want to admit it!) and, even though I didn't expect it when I started, I have found that I very much enjoy working one-to-one with people to help them improve their maths skills. I aim to be patient and clear, and to create an atmosphere in which students feel completely comfortable stopping me, asking questions and even telling me when something I've said makes no sense whatsoever (which thankfully only happens occasionally!).

More than fifteen years of feedback from students and parents has reinforced how important those qualities are, although I'm aware that there is always room to improve.

Teaching Experience:
Since leaving university, I have worked with hundreds of students across a wide range of ages and ability levels. These have included primary school students, GCSE and A-level students, and adults studying for qualifications or simply looking to improve their maths.

Much of my work is now focused on GCSE and A-level Maths, and over the years I have taught students with very different starting points and objectives: from those who lack confidence with the fundamentals through to high-attaining students aiming for the top grades.

Alongside my teaching, I have spent many years developing an extensive collection of my own resources. These include carefully sequenced lesson questions, topic worksheets, exam-style and past-paper practice, and detailed worked solutions.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching centres around patience, clarity and adapting the lesson to the individual student. One of the main advantages of one-to-one tuition is that there is no need to move on simply because the rest of a class is ready to do so. If a student needs more time on a particular idea, we can spend that time; equally, if they have understood something quickly, we can move on to more challenging material.

Where possible, I like to work through topics in a carefully structured progression, beginning with the underlying ideas and building towards the more difficult and exam-style questions. The resources I have developed over the years are particularly helpful here, as I can choose questions of an appropriate level and gradually increase the difficulty as the student progresses. I don't feel there is much point in rushing through a topic for the sake of it, so I am always happy to take things as slowly as the student might want - going back over past topics/questions if that's what they feel would be most helpful.

I am also eager to push students if I feel they are capable of working at a higher level. Many students underestimate their own ability because the pace or style of their school lessons does not suit the way they learn, only to find that, once they begin one-to-one tuition, they are capable of much more than they had realised.

Finally, I strongly believe that the greatest progress usually comes when regular tuition is combined with some independent work between lessons - I am therefore happy to provide homework from my own resources.

I approach all tasks in a professional and organised manner and am a reliable and punctual person who takes pride in my appearance. I can work independently and calmly under pressure using my own initiative where applicable with good problem solving skills. I am skilled in the use of a variety of computer equipment, hardware and software, as well as building, repairing and upgrading computers and installing hardware and software on various types of machines. Teaching Experience:
At present I work with the Leicestershire Adult Learning Service working as an E Learning Champion at Oadby Library. I offer free computer tuition to adults wishing to learn more about the computer or have any puzzling questions that need answering. All learners complete a course called My Guide which helps them learn more about the computer by following a set of modules and topics.

Whilst I was at Moat at during my education at Beauchamp College and Loughborough College I helped to assist/ train a small group in the use of particular pieces of hardware and software At Loughborugh College. I also assisted in several HP IT Essentials classes where I assisted students to gain particular qualifications. Whilst at Moat I assisted staff in the training and understanding of new software to ensure all staff have the confidence to deliver the curriculum and to provide support to staff appropriate to their needs. I would be able to provide support, assistance, training help and guidance to staff/students using computers, new and existing software and technologies

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching/tutoring is a simple one I always strive to make sure the learner understands whats he/she is being taught and if there are aspects that they find difficult I revise that particular topic over and over again until they understand and I do this using the various teaching methods and learning styles available to ne including the VAK (Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic) approach.

Once they have an understanding of the topic I don't move on until they feel comfortable and I always reasure them throughout.

I am a fully qualified Mathematics teacher currently working in an inner city secondary in Liverpool.
I graduated from the University of Liverpool with an honours degree in Mathematics and Financial Economics and have also completed a further Mathematics course at Liverpool Hope University.

Teaching Experience:
I currently work in a secondary school in the Liverpool area and I have worked in the schools for the past 12 years teaching pupils in classes, small tuition groups and on a one to one basis.
I have an extensive knowledge in preparing pupils for exams, whether it be secondary school entry exams, GCSE or A-level. This has come from working in various schools doing intervention classes, both independently and as part of my further Maths course in University.
As well as teaching in the UK I have been fortunate enough to go on a charity project to India over the summer holidays where i was able to teach in two Tibetan school, which has given me a wider perspective on teaching.

The first session is always used to get the know the student, find out what they want, what their strengths and weaknesses are and how we can develop these to reach our target grade/level. This is done by creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where the student can feel they are able to approach me with any problems or queries. After finishing my A level in Weymouth, Dorset, I then went to Essex University in Colchester to study Science. Ater getting my first degree, I then decided to do a masters Degree in Chemistry and passed. In my University days, I have always loved Maths and Science and in my first year at University, I did Physics, Chemistry and Maths. I have a very high understanding of Maths because of my passion for Maths and I have solve several problems in Maths, Physics and Chemistry up to A level. I am very passionate about numbers and anything that has numbers in it, I will solve. My chemical knowledge is absolutely unbelievable. I have been taeching Chemistry and Maths longer than A level Physics but I teach A level Physics in my current School. I actually started teaching as soon as I left University in 1993. In those days, I did not have teaching qualification. I then decided to get some experience outside education. After gaining experience in Industries, I decided to get back into teaching and took my teaching qualification. I am now a fully qualified teacher and then started teaching again in September 2007. My strength in teaching has always been on a one to one basis. I do teach in a Grammar School at the moment but I always prefer to teach on a one to one basis because I enjoy helping individual student's as each student's requirement is different and you can't properly help individual student's in a class of 30 students. I am very passionate about teaching and devote a lot of my time teaching.

My tutoring style is quite unique. Being a school teacher myself, I now understand why it is so difficult for students to understand the subjects that I teach. I do not believe in pressurising students to learn. I prefer a much more relaxed atmosphere whereby the students needs and requirement is the absolute paramount. Style of teaching is also important and how you come across to the students is also very important. Investing into new ways and new ideas in order to aid students understanding is also very important. Teaching Experience:
I am very experienced in teaching having coached volleyball for the past 6 years. Working with children from ages 10 all the way up to members of the university team. This experience has taught me a lot about the best methods to explain concepts and ideas to all age groups which are applicable across all fields.

Tutoring Approach:
My favourite approach is to teach through examples in a very hands on involved manner. I am not a fan of just talking at students and assuming they are going to pick things up as I go. Teaching Experience:
I first taught Art and Photography to adult SEN students, as well as teaching City & Guilds Photography evening classes for adults. I progressed to BTEC course co-ordinator and lecturer for two years at Richmond-upon-Thames College, also teaching A level film studies and media.

I became BTEC Media Team Leader at Harrow College teaching Level 2 and 3 in 2004, focusing on vocational aspects such as creating music videos, documentaries, adverts, final major projects, from practical to theoretical. I also co-ordinated and taught the A Level Film Studies course using WJEC specification, teaching a range of film theoretical and practical, from French New Wave, British Film, US film comparisons and World Cinema, with an emphasis on exam practice.
