Although I am not a native French person I am a trainee French teacher and am a fluent speaker over the last 20 years, I understand that some people require a native speaker but not everyone can teach and I can prove my ability through my numerous high achievers and results. I am an excellent teacher and all my students grades get up to A* when they take my advise.

I am doing a PGCE in Teaching French in secondary schools and will complete in June 2020. I tailor my lessons via different types of presentations to suit the individual learner from my laptop and I am familiar with all exam boards including AQA, OCR, WJEC, Edexcel and Eduqas (new GCSE exam-board) etc. I also use a range of textbooks depending on the students requirements. I am a patient, friendly and enthusiastic tutor. I come from an academic background, with a Ph.D in Molecular Biology followed by 3 years Post-doctoral Research at University of Edinburgh and therefore have a thorough and extensive knowledge of the subjects I tutor in. My approach varies depending on the student as all have different needs and learning styles. For GCSE/A-level tuition, I predominantly concentrate on exam practice, with in-depth topic study for any problematic subjects. I also use multimedia aids to help students visualise biological/chemical processes where appropriate and I have created PowerPoint files covering all A-level and GCSE Biology and Chemistry topics, tailored to each syllabus/exam board. My academic research background has given me a very sound understanding of how to interpret and analyse scientific data, a major theme in A-level Biology exams and one that many students struggle with. I will happily assist students in building their confidence with respect to this trickier element of the course.

Since March 2020 , all of my tuition has been online (via Zoom) and I have adapted my lessons to work equally well, using interactive tools and easy sharing of resources. I am a retired maths teacher who has been successfully tutoring maths for the past 15 years. I graduated from Imperial College, London, with a first class honours degree and, for most of my full time working career, I was a computer software engineer. However, at the end of my career, I was a lecturer at the Royal School of Signalling, teaching mainly Data Networks but also Mathematics. I am married with 4 children and (to date) 7 grandchildren with whom we seem to have taken on a new career as child minders.

Teaching Experience:
When teaching maths at the Royal School Of Signalling, I was told I was doing a great job, particularly at building the confidence of students who had previously struggled while at school. During my time there, I gained a CFET teaching qualification and, based on my success, started offering private tuition. I found that I enjoyed the one to one lessons and tayloring the sessions for each individual student. I have now been successfully tutoring maths for 15 years. I have taught GCSE and A level maths for all the exam boards (Edexecl, AQA, OCR), plus for some entrance exams and scholarship exams. As well as in person tutoring, I have been sucesssfully teaching online via Zoom; I have a drawing pad and document camera to help.

Tutoring Approach:
I understand Maths to be a progressive series of concepts; the simpler, earlier concepts must be fully mastered before the more advanced ones can be readily understood. For example, I have come across students, even at A level, whose understanding of basic algebra is incomplete and this is holding them back from learning the more advanced topics. I therefore start by ensuring that these basic skills have been mastered before moving on. This continues throughout the student's progress, whether we are at Foundation GCSE or A level. I ensure each topic is properly understood before moving on and always make time to revise and consolidate. Basically the student sets the pace. Throughout, I try to make our sessions relaxed and enjoyable so that they build the student's confidence.
