Hi there,
I'm a qualified science teacher and Head of Science based in London, who currently teaches in a secondary school to students aged 11-18. I teach all sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) to KS3 and GCSE (Edexcel and AQA specification), and teach A-Level Biology (OCR specification). I have worked within education for the past 10 years and really love working with young people to inspire them to achieve the best they can. I appreciate that it's not always possible to get the most out of every lesson and so some students may benefit from having a personal tutor to go over areas of difficulty and to fully grasp and understand the concepts to do better in school and in assessments.

I have worked with thousands on children in the past 10 years working within education. For me, every student is an individual and no one learns in the exact same way. It's so important to be adaptable and honest with learning, so I focus on delivering lessons based on your learning style and personality, using a variety of exercises and methods. I am very hands on when teaching, I think energy and perseverance brings the best out of each student. I also put problems into context and make sure to be creative, but once an idea is understood, I think the key emphasis is to practice and repeat. I work with a lot of structure and am very organised which allows students to not feel overwhelmed with the amount of information, but to rather understand it in very easy applicable steps and for the long-term. I am an experienced teacher of both classics and modern languages, and have taught in a variety of secondary schools. I have stopped classroom teaching now but I am keen to carry on teaching in a different capacity. I am passionate about languages, words and communication and love to share this with others. Successful language teaching should combine a fun approach using oral practice including song lyrics and games with a more structured approach to grammar; this gives the student confidence that they really understand the language used. The advantage of private lessons is that I can focus on what the individual learner wants, which might be lots of oral practice to become more proficient at speaking, or to pass a specific exam. I do like to set homework from week to week as this is an important part of progress; but it is not compulsory!

I focus on private tuition for GCSE and key stage 3 students. My name is Kateryna and I am currently studying at Aston University, Birmingham where I am completing my Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience. Prior to my University studies, I attended Adams' Grammar School in Newport, Shropshire where I completed my A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In addition to my studies at University, I work part-time as a domiciliary care worker, working with senior adults in their homes to ensure they live as independently as possible.

In terms of my interests outside of studying and working, I love all things outdoors- in particular walking and biking. In the summer months I take great joy in watersport activities such as, wakeboarding and bodyboarding.

Teaching Experience:
Whilst being a student myself, I have tutored first year BSc Neuroscience university students during the course of their first year in order to bridge any gaps in their knowledge of first year content. Also, whilst I was a sixth-form student in my second year I tutored lower-sixth A-Level Biology students .

Tutoring Approach:
Having experienced tutoring myself in both A-Level Chemistry and Physics, I have great insight into what I believe makes a good tutor and what tutees who do require additional support actually want from their tutor.
In my opinion, my approach to being a successful tutor is building confidence in tutees by exploring what they already are successful in to encourage the idea that requiring additional help is perfectly normal and nothing to be insecure about as they can already prove to themselves that they flourish already in other parts of academia. However, once we have identified areas of a subject that they feel not so confident in, my approach is to tackle the basics first, from which more detail can be brought about with ease. From this point, once a tutee has established concrete knowledge of a topic, I would encourage exam practice to gain an insight into questions that can be expected.

Hi, my name is Imi, and I am in my 5th year of Dentistry at the University of Bristol. I am looking to tutor in Chemistry and Biology up to A-level and below, having taken Chemistry, Biology and Economics at A-level myself and achieved 3 A*'s. In addition to this, I also completed my Extended Project Qualification based on dentistry, drawing on my scientific background, in which I achieved an A*. At GCSE level, I achieved all 9's and took all 3 sciences, Maths, English, German, Geography, Religious Studies and Latin.

Teaching Experience:
At secondary school, I was a Peer Mentor for 2 GCSE students in Biology and Chemistry. We met weekly in the build up to their exams and went over topics they struggled with and I brought some of my own materials along to test their knowledge after we had discussed their mistakes. I learnt a great deal about different teaching styles from both students and how to be adaptable when the topic of discussion changed quickly. Additionally, for 2 years every week, I volunteered to teach disabled children how to swim at my local pool. This was a wonderful experience and developed my communication skills immensely as I had to cater to a wide range of disabilities. Therefore, I believe I am very patient and flexible with my approach to teaching.

Tutoring Approach:
I feel passionately about making all of my tutoring sessions interactive, enjoyable and targeted to the individual student. I endeavour to make all of my tutees feel relaxed with me from the start, so that there's a comfortable environment, where they know that all their questions are valid and can be asked without judgement. I believe it is important to frequently recap content in order to identify areas of weakness in my tutee's knowledge and I plan to do this with recap quizzes/discussions at the beginning of each session. Personally, I also greatly benefitted from making up mnemonics and sketching diagrams when covering challenging content and so I would aim to do this with my tutee too. However, I would see what mix of methods work best for each student.
