Personal Description:

I recently graduated (July 08) from the University of Glasgow with a BSc in Mathematics with merit. I also studied Computing Science and Geography during my first 2 years at university. I'm 21 years old, which I believe is an advantage for tutoring as the courses I will be teaching will be very similar to when I studied them. I enjoy listening to music as well as going to gigs.

Teaching Experience:

In September 09 I will start my high school teaching diploma in Mathematics. I hope to gain a lot of teaching experience from being a private tutor as well as assisting in a high school classroom during the 08/09 school year.

I have only tutored 2 students privately as I have been concentrating on my own exams. Both of which passed their exams, one student studied Higher Mathematics and the other Standard Grade Mathematics.
I also gave classroom assistance when I was studying for my advanced higher in Mathematics

Tutoring Approach:

I will initially discuss with the student what they are aiming to achieve. Whether it be simply to pass the exam or to get a high grade in the exam.
I will then work out with the student what their weaknesses are in the subject. To overcome these I will work through examples with them, explaining in depth why each step is being done and how to do it.
Closer to exam time we will work through exam papers paying close attention to any areas in which the student is still struggling.

If the student (or students parent) wants me to set homework for them then I shall do. Making sure I focus on relevant questions for the student.

I am also willing to tutor for more than 1 person at once, for a reduced rate which can be discussed by email or phone.

Qualifications:

• BSc in Mathematics from the University of Glasgow
• University modules in Geography, Computing Science, Statistics
• Advanced Higher Mathematics - B
• Highers in Geography, P.E., Information Systems, Maths, Music
