Personal Description:

If you are working one-to-one its important to have good interpersonal skills. I am pretty flexible in my approach. Some students need to be drawn out some need to be directed a bit more. I am comfortable with both approaches. The important thing is that you communicate and learn.

My interests: Short story writing, Scuba Diving, Riding (not very good though!) and watching my son play football!

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced University Lecturer (22 years). I have also taught at GCSE and at A level.
I have an MSc Computer Science, BSc (II.1) Psychology and have passed various additional modules from the Open University in Social Sciences and in General Science (with distinction).

Tutoring Approach:

I follow a student-centred approach. Everyone is different. Students have different learning styles, different background knowledge and they may differ in the kinds of explanation they need, so l like to tailor my approach to the student.

I find a calm, supportive and structured approach very successful in enabling all students to achieve their potential, especially those with special needs.

My usual approach is to clarify what we want to achieve, then carry out an assessment of the student's level of knowledge and ability in the subject area. Having identified strengths and weaknesses we have a foundation on which we can build. Then we set to work with exercises, explanations and homework, with frequent progress checks. It usually works very well!
