Personal Description:
I am a professional and dedicated native English teacher with years of experience behind me.

Teaching Experience:

I have gained TEFL experience within varied teaching roles, both abroad and in the UK. In my previous roles I have worked with children, teenagers, and adults in companies, schools, and summer camps. I have taught General English, Business English, and exam classes to groups and one-to-one students in school and business environments. I also have experience of teaching students with dyslexia. This variety has enabled me to continually assess my style of teaching and keep me on my toes!

Working in such roles has given me crucial insight into the needs of the student. I am extremely patient and understand the frustration that can arise when learning, whether it is a new language or subject. I realise that people acquire knowledge through varied means so I am keen to adjust my teaching style to benefit my students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe a mature, responsible, and eclectic teaching approach, as well as a good sense of humour, is crucial for a successful learning environment.

I offer a custom-made service, whether you need to improve your general English skills, your writing, or simply build your confidence. I also have years of experience in teaching Business English and Exam English (IELTS/FCE/CAE). Whatever you need help with, I am happy to focus my lessons on what you require.

I offer Skype lessons and professional proofreading for people who may not be able to meet face-to-face.

I am available to tutor at your home, workplace, or in a quiet cafe in Cambridge. I can also tutor in Central London.

Personal Description:
Hi I'm Niall and I'm currently working for a reputable, local, financial institution in Swindon. I graduated in 2010 in Economics at the University of Reading. My passion to teach started when I noticed younger family members were struggling at school, mainly in Maths. I tutored them all through KS1 - KS3 and GCSE level where they gained exceptionally high grades.

Teaching Experience:

Taught Maths to students aged 11-18 at a secondary school whilst in my second year at university.
Taught Maths and English to students in Turkey at a primary school and secondary school.

Tutoring Approach:

Studying and revising shouldn't be a chore and I believe I can bring to life my subjects, even economics (nicknamed the "dull science"). Everyone learns differently and there are many methods to ensure the student is on the right learning curve.

Personal Description:
My name is George, I am twenty-one years old and am currently a pre-final-year student of French and Spanish (BA) at the University of Southampton (I will begin final year in September 2014). My level of competence is higher in Spanish, due to my having spent the last nine months living in Spain on the 3rd Year Erasmus Exchange, a compulsory part of my degree. My written and spoken competency in Spanish is high (firm C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference). In French it is slightly lower, but still of professional standard in writing - last semester I achieved a firm passing mark in a final-year medical, judicial and computational Spanish-to-French and French-to-Spanish translation module at the Universidad de Alicante, in which I was the only student who wasn't a native speaker of either of the languages. As for my Spanish, I have also spent the last six months living with my Spanish girlfriend, who doesn't speak English. She is very well-spoken and I have adopted her style of speech during my time here.

I have a total of ten GCSEs all with grades A*-B, one AS level grade B in Computer Science and three A-grade A levels in Spanish, French and Economics. All of these were achieved during my time at The King's School, Chester (2004-2011).

I enjoy relaxing with my friends, many kinds of music, videogaming and following the world of rowing - I am a competent coxswain for the University rowing club, a sport I took up while at King's. I am generally a relaxed kind of guy to be around, easy to get on with, and pride myself in my ability to "take things easy" and not get stressed.

While living at home with my parents this summer I will have my car and am willing to travel reasonable distances to tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I have no previous teaching experience as such, short of helping my younger brothers pass their GCSE maths. When I understand something well I have no difficulty explaining it to others in a clear manner. I don't know whether it counts in my favour, but I also managed to teach my middle-aged co-workers at my old job in retail how to use the new digital till system - a task far harder than it sounds!

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and non-pressuried style of teaching, and will be able to help the student feel at ease. I do not have access to any teaching material unavailable to the public online, so would need the student to have papers/worksheets/textbooks etc from school for us to work on/go through together, or any problems they may be encountering in their minds for us to resolve. I would not call myself an academic, but my methods have enabled me to get this far with my languages and I would be more than happy to help others find a way to overcome any issues they may have with language learning.

Personal Description:
Nice to meet you! I'm Rebecca; I'm 27 years old and graduated from Bangor University with a BSc in Psychology with Clinical and Health Psychology. After university I spent a year as a specialist support worker for adults with autism and autistic traits. With my psychology degree and experience I am more than happy to cater for students that might need a bit of extra help, and have experience teaching students with Aspergers, Personality Disorder, and depression.

Following uni, I spent nearly 2 years teaching English as a foreign language in Japan. Whilst in Japan, I also learnt how to speak conversational Japanese, and can also read and write hiragana, katakana, and first-grade level kanji. I now tutor English and Japanese full time, and have registered my own language services company.

To better understand what is needed for GCSE Japanese, I took my GCSE in 2016 achieving an A*, and plan to take N4 in the Japanese Proficiency test next year. I am happy to help students work towards their GCSE or N5 level Japanese, and I am constantly training to improve my students learning experience.

I welcome any students with special needs; I have vast experience in the Psychological field and work well with anyone who needs that little bit of extra help and attention! I also work great with kids who need help boosting their English and Maths at school- in the last year one of my 5-year-old student's grades have gone from below average to excellent in their school report.

I'm currently teaching in the Northamptonshire area, and have a classroom set up in my home where I do most of my teaching from.

Please note: if you would like me to teach at your home or meet somewhere public, I do charge extra to cover my travel costs (30p per mile) with a minimum 6 travel charge.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience includes the 2 years I spent teaching English as a foreign language in Japan, where I designed the yearly teaching schedules, lesson plans, and then taught the lessons. My students were from the age of 3 to 65, so I have experience in teaching all ages. Whilst in Japan I also taught beginner's Japanese to foreigners living in my local area.

Since returning to England in 2013 I've been tutoring English and Japanese full time. I took my GCSE Japanese in 2016 achieving an A*, and plan to take N4 of the Japanese proficiency test next year. I have also been teaching one of my younger students English, Math, and other related subjects required for primary school. I currently have more than 20 students learning Japanese 1-to-1 and relish the challenges and individuality between each new student.

At university I volunteered for several groups including an activity group for disadvantaged children, assisting in secondary school classrooms, volunteering at the local mental health unit and volunteering as a charity shop assistant.

Prior to this, I often tutored my younger sister (who has Asperger's Syndrome) and helped her to understand her school work. I have also clocked up countless hours of babysitting for parents around the local area.

Tutoring Approach:

For teaching English as a foreign language, or when teaching Japanese, I believe a fun, active approach is the most effective. A short amount of time is spent drilling sentences and words; but then these new words and phrases should be used in role plays, games, or challenges to make the new vocabulary stick.

When teaching English, debates about the subject material cause important points to be remembered, help students to structure their arguments more clearly, and let students consider what the most important points are and consider counter arguments. Games for younger children and a variety of different activities to help enforce new vocabulary and sentences are also important.

Subjects
  • Japanese
  • Up to 11 years (primary) (19 p.h.)
  • 11+ (secondary) (19 p.h.)
  • GCSE or Standards (19 p.h.)
  • Adult/Casual learner (23 p.h.)

Personal Description:
I live in Cumbria and have a range of work experiences to draw on, including researching for the BBC daily survey and the Centre for Social Policy Research and Development. I have also worked as a housemother for children with learning difficulties, as an advocate within the voluntary sector and as an advocacy development worker.

After gaining my PhD, my more recent work has been as an Education lecturer in higher education which has also involved me in a number of research initiatives, tutoring undergraduate and postgraduate students and working on research governance and ethics. I have a wide range of peer reviewed publications and a number of current book contracts. I believe education is a right for all people at all levels and that it is best viewed as a lifelong experience.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked at a college teaching A level Sociology and more recently at a Russell Group university for 8 years teaching a wide variety of topics to undergraduate and postgraduate students including sociology, social policy and politics, social psychology, social theory, person centred approaches, gender studies, disability theory, social research, critical thinking, communication & study skills. My last two national student survey results gave 93% and 100% for quality.

I have also previously taught on women returning to work courses through the University of Lancaster as well as youth and community and training the trainers courses.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a student centred approach to tutoring. Each person has different needs and different approaches to learning. Initially we will assess your needs and preferences together and work out how to deliver teaching in the most effective way for you to achieve your goals. I also encourage a proactive approach where students learn to take responsibility for their learning in between person to person tuition. This is especially important for students going on to university education.

I am a friendly, calm and patient teacher with a variety of experience that I am able to bring into my classroom by day, and in tutoring outside of school hours. I have worked with students from primary to university level, as well as tutored adult ESL students during my time living abroad.

As a secondary school teacher, I have high expectations of my students and like to push them to their full potential and keen to inspire confidence and faith in their ability. I thoroughly enjoy working with students one to one when I am able to personally tailor teaching to the learner's level at a pace that suits them. I currently work in a successful 'outstanding' school, therefore, I have a very strong English department where I am able to gain resources and skills I can bring to my tutees.

I am passionate about inspiring confidence and belief, and love exploring my subject with others; opening their minds to alternative approaches and guiding the way. I use a lot of humour in my lessons and like to create a calm, relaxed and enjoyable environment and get to know my students as individuals. Having spent much time with a personal tutor at GCSE to overcome my fear of Mathematics as a teenager, I have a personal understanding of the empathy and patience required by a tutor, as well as a passion to enable my tutees to reach their goals and develop confidence in themselves.

Teaching Experience:

After graduating from Roehampton University with a 2:1 in English Literature and Theatre Studies, I went on to work as a Teaching Assistant in SEN working with students with a range of needs, but focused on teaching students with Dyslexia/Dyspraxia, which then became my research focus for one of my assignments during my PGCE teacher training.

I have since taught in a wide range of schools; I left Britain to work abroad in an IB international boarding school, PTIS Chiang Mai, as a Boarding Houseparent and ESL/SEN teacher, as well as tutoring seniors completing their final IB projects. In the evenings, my responsibilities included tutoring boarders aged 9 - 19 for all subjects. After my one year internship, I taught in a British international school for two years, Varee International Chiang Mai, where I taught KS3/4 IGCSE English and SEN and was lead assessor for entrance tests for ESLstudents. I also tutored adult Thai learners English outside of my school hours as part of a language exchange to help me to develop my Thai.

Since returning to the UK, I have taught KS3/4 History and Geography, and now KS3 - KS4 English in an outstanding secondary academy in West London.
I am a flexible teacher in terms of subjects covered, but English/literature, grammar, ESL and study skills are my core areas.

Tutoring Approach:

When I first meet a new student, I conduct an initial assessment to be able to adapt my lessons to the individual needs of the student.
I have very high expectations of my students, so push when they feel like 'giving up', but practise compassion when they need support and encouragement. With confidence and patience, they can find a way.
I may on occasion set small homework tasks (if the student does not have too much with their school already) to continue learning between sessions. I will often ask a student to e-mail this to me before our next session so I can give feedback and work on mistakes for our next session, thus maximising learning in our short sessions.
I have a fun approach to my teaching as this is vital to engage young learners, as well as for my own enjoyment of sharing my passion for my subject.

Personal Description:
My name is Amy, I'm currently training to be a Primary School teacher at Durham University having just completed my undergraduate degree in Music at the University of York. I'm originally from Hertfordshire and have recently moved to Durham, I am really enjoying my teacher training so far and hope to get my first teaching post here. My interests include playing the flute and cornet in various music groups at the University as well as drawing and painting.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst at Sixth Form College, I worked for a private tuition company called Kumon, tutoring children aged 4-16 with their maths and English work.
Throughout my undergraduate degree at the University of York, I was actively involved with the Music Education Group and lead music workshops, such as Samba Drumming, Indian Music and General Musicianship in primary schools around York.

I have also completed three York Students in Schools placements (5 days each) in schools in York, observing teaching and gaining experience. In these placements, I often worked one-to-one with children, working to improve their abilities in maths and English. As well as these placements, I spent two weeks at a first school, continuing to expand my knowledge of primary teaching and my experience of working with children.

This most recent summer, I spent three weeks in August working at a Activity Day camp called Barracudas in Cambridge for children aged 4-16 and ran many activities such as trampolining, outdoor sports (including Quidditch!) and art activities. Although the focus of these sessions weren't as educational as those in school, I was still required to ensure that the children were making progress as the organisation could have been subjected to an Ofsted inspection, meaning that I planned my sessions to provide for the best experience for the children.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is about getting to know the child so that I understand the best way to help them learn. I know that all children have different approaches to understanding and I think that it is important to provide tutoring that is individual to their needs. I like to engage the child I am teaching, making learning fun and develop the skills that they need to continue to learn.

Personal Description:
I am an MFL teacher and love my job. I am extremely passionate about the three languages that I studied at university and teach; Spanish, French and Italian. I have lived in Spain and Guadeloupe, in the French Caribbean, and have enjoyed long spells in Italy. I find empathising with students easy and have taught primary and secondary school students of all ages and attainment levels, as well as adults. In my spare time I run, cook, read and socialise.

Teaching Experience:

I teach at a grammar school in North Kent. I have a top role in my department and at my previous school, I was 'MFL Specialism Leader', meaning that I organised and carried out primary school outreach, created MFL-related extra-curricular experiences for students at the school and at others in the borough and also, provided MFL teacher training. I have taught in schools and to private students KS3, GCSE, the IGCSE, A Level and the IB with great success. I am au fait with the changes to the MFL GCSE (content and levels) as well as A Level. References are available upon request!

Tutoring Approach:

Whether teaching a whole class or tutoring one-to-one, my approach to teaching and learning is enthusiastic, thorough and varied, as well as professional. I really aim to support students in their learning and how they go about learning, and have been really proud of the results of those that I have worked with. However, I take equal pleasure in seeing a marked increase in the enjoyment of and confidence in language learning by others not working towards exams. I adapt my teaching styles, materials and exercises according to the needs of my students.

Personal Description:
I enjoy teaching and have tutored at various universities across Europe. My day job is at the Department of Oncology, University of Oxford, where our team of clinicians, physicists, mathematicians, biologists and bio-chemists together develop strategies to fight cancer. I particularly enjoyed interacting with people at science festivals explaining them the potential benefits of medical imaging. I have presented scientific work at various international conferences and worked in over 5 clinical trials. In the past, I have also enjoyed working at the interface of business, science & technology while starting-up a boutique clinical research organisation.

Teaching Experience:

10/2011-04/2013: Co/supervised various student projects, Kings College London, UK

04/2008-04/2010: Senior Tutor and Invigilator, UCD, Ireland

09/2007-01/2008: Teaching Assistant, University of Strathclyde, UK

Tutoring Approach:

The classes are individually tailored. The students tell me in advance which topic they want to learn. I prepare a few questions & solutions for the chosen topic to tutor during our joint session and encourage students to bring specific exercises to the table related to the chosen topic. At the end of the session, I try to point out the key points learned during our session.

Personal Description:
I am a First Class History graduate from the University of Manchester. I am currently living in South London as a freelance journalist for women's thinking magazine 'Psychologies'. I research and write features for issues relating to health and wellness, educating readers on ways to lead a happy and healthy way of life. My training has provided me with strong skills in being able to conduct detailed research and communicate material in a logical and coherent way. I believe these skills are highly valuable and very important for being a good tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I have led revision classes for both GCSE English and History while I attended Sixth Form. Whilst studying at Manchester I tutored English, Maths and Science in local primary schools, teaching children from year 1-year 6.I helped run weekly sessions for those year 6 students in the run up to their KS2 SATs. I was also responsible for teaching at revision classes for year 1 and 2 year History students at Manchester University, while I was in my final year.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to create a friendly environment for my tutee by being softly spoken and staying calm throughout our session. I do slightly adapt approach depending on each tutee, however I always set challenging, yet achievable weekly targets to ensure that each tutee has a clear focus and a goal to work towards each session.

Personal Description:
I am currently a university student in Birmingham studying Law. I am passionate about teaching and provide an energetic, fun approach to learning. I took Psychology, Biology and Maths in my A levels and I have 10 GCSE's all A* and A grades. I can teach from primary school to A-level standard and can provide help for a range of subjects in an enthusiastic manner providing the tutees with more confidence in the subject.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously had experience in a primary school helping students of all years and all abilities. For secondary school and GCSE's I was a mentor which provided a tutor role to students who needed help in any subject but particular Biology, Chemistry, English, Maths, and Religious Studies.

I have also helped students in A-level for Biology and Psychology providing teaching and helping them achieve the grades they wanted.

The degree I am currently doing (Law) can also help students in essay writing skills and constructing detailed answers for exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I provide an enthusiastic and engaging approach to tutoring, as I have a passion for each subject I teach. I understand everybody is different and can tailor my style to suit the needs of the child. Normally in the first session I use this to assess the child's strengths and weaknesses so I can create a personalised plan to help the child excel in the subject.

The way I teach varies between each individual student. I can provide numerous ways suited to the student's needs and their style of learning. I will ensure the student understands a specific topic before moving to the next one.
