| Personal Description: Hi there. My name is Andria, and I am a postgraduate student at Queen's. I currently specialize in the science side of audio and music technology. I have a university background in engineering, computer science, media, German and English. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored students in each subject listed above, frequently run study groups within my department, and have experience working with special needs students. |
Tutoring Approach: I firmly believe tutoring should be an interactive process. There is a difference between stating information and explaining it. I am a very visual learner, and tend to tutor in the same way I learn, using diagrams, images, and examples. I also believe that getting someone to learn involves catching and keeping their interest, so I do my best to make the work enjoyable. |

| Personal Description: I am PhD student at Cardiff University. My broad background subject is Media Studies, but my main area of interest is media, politics, and journalism (theory). I have strong reading, writing, and research skills so I can offer help in a variety of disciplines. |
Teaching Experience: I teach seminars to undergraduate degree students at Cardiff University, so I do already have experience of teaching (and marking) in my field of interest. The degree that I teach on is Journalism, Film and Media, which concentrates on a variety of media-based, political, and social topics. I have also been a student mentor at secondary education level so I have one to one experience of tutoring from this work as well. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is similar to that of my class-based seminars: I teach in a friendly, relaxed, encouraging and open atmosphere. I like students to engage by exploring their own ideas and questions as much as possible to ensure that they are fully involved in gaining an understanding of the subject concerned. I always take a constructive and positive approach to teaching to ensure that students feel comfortable and confident and can learn in a productive environment at all times. |

| Personal Description: I am a friendly and enthusiastic 31-year-old part-time lecturer and freelance filmmaker. I make a living writing and directing international music videos, award-winning short films and commercials, as well as lecturing, and running filmmaking workshops for under 16s. I have extensive professional experience in the areas of video production, from script-writing through to cameras and lighting, working with actors and editing. I also have extensive theoretical experience, having lectured TV and Video Production at BA and MA level. I studied film and media myself from GCSE through to degree level. |
Teaching Experience: Bournemouth Media School, Bournemouth University 4 years as part-time lecturer on BA and MA Television Production 3 years as .5 lecturer on BA and MA Television Production Guest lecturer Thames Valley University Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication New York Film Academy in London Co-ordinator 2 x First Light Projects, Lighthouse Arts and Training, Brighton Rolling Sound Educational Projects, London |
Tutoring Approach: There are as many approaches to tutoring as there are tutees and tutors, and I aim to provide an approach that is unique and individual to the tutee, depending on their strengths, weaknesses and learning styles. It's good to spend a bit of time getting to know the student, discussing their goals for the sessions, and figuring out the teaching method that will be most valuable to them. This way we can progress together, with regular checks as to how the session is working, and moulding it to the student's preference. It's also important that I provide a situation that engages and stimulates the student, whether through referencing films, television, and other media, or actually enabling practical exercises. The most valuable way of learning is through actually doing it, and getting a real sense of the issues that arise from that experience. "Practice without theory is empty. Theory without practice, blind." Immanuel Kant |

| Personal Description: I am a mature professional with many years experience in local authority arts work, as well as in the commercial sector - both in music promotion, and in the broadcast media sector as a digital video editor. I am also a recently qualified secondary school teacher in Art & Design. In addition, I have many years experience teaching English as a Foreign Language overseas. |
Teaching Experience: I ran a local authority video & film workshop for 8 years, teaching media skills to a range of people of all ages and abilities. I also taught English as a Foreign Language in Germany for 6 years, teaching in private companies, education colleges, and secondary schools. As a recently qualified teacher in Scotland, I am aware of the current education system and the SQA examination levels and procedures. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to focus on clear goals and learning objectives, and build on previous learning. With one to one tuition I can offer the support and encouragement which can be absent in whole class teaching and learning. As a recently qhalified teacher I recognise the difficulties experienced by many school pupils within the education system, and I am able to offer a personal and clear approach to the learning experience. As a language teacher too, I understand and promote good communication and language/literacy skills. |

| Personal Description: I would call myself a facilitator instead of a teacher and I experiment with various pedagogies in order to facilitate the learning of a student. Given that I have taught in various schools for the past ten years I am experienced to deal with Special Education Needs pupils, pupils whose first language is not English (EAL), average pupils and also gifted and talented. As a facilitator I know how to bring up the best in each pupil in order to promote his or her learning. I also work closely with the National Curriculum in order to ensure that my students improve not only their writing skills but also speaking and listening ones. I am acquainted with the AQA, OCR, EdExcel and Welsh examination boards across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5. Given that I have prepared students for their SATs, GCSE, AS and A levels exams for many years, I use assessment criteria to raise academic standards. When I tutor someone I provide all the resources, give on going extra supports (examples, emails and phone) |
Teaching Experience: I have taught is several schools (comprehensive, academy, RC,..) I am able to adapt myself with different students coming from different school backgrounds. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is unique. My role as a tutor or rather as a facilitator is to ensure that the child is progressing. I usually set weekly targets and review them. | Personal Description: I am a freelance journalist, specialising in arts and lifestyle, and currently publishing in The Entertainment Guide and Clash. I have an extensive knowledge of English literature, media and communications, having been an active practitioner. I have made documentaries about underground hip hop, written a video/performance piece for Scotland's leading stage actor Tam Dean Burn, and exhibition programmes. Indeed my actual degree is in art history, and Film and TV (with a journalism post grad), but my main experience has been in teaching English, my degree being equivalent to an English degree. |
Teaching Experience: I have been working as a personal tutor for over ten years, which I have sometimes found to be more rewarding than the journalism. This is partly form the pleasure of actually seeing people learn, and I have had generally encouraging results. I have mainly taught English from Standard Grade to Advanced Higher, but have also occasionally spoken at college events on cinema. I have recently been doing academic editing for Glasgow University, working with post graduate students whose native language is not English, on a wide variety of topics. |
Tutoring Approach: I take a practical appraoch to tuition, working according to the curriculum to get the best exam results. In English for instance, I work from a diet of past papers to improve Textual Analysis and Comprehension skills, as well as helping students with whatever school work they have at hand. I will not be setting them assignments such as write a poem about a daffodil! On the other hand, I do try and make lessons enjoyable and interesting, and if I can communicate a love of English language and literature as well as securing a good pass, I ccan consider myself to have successfully done my job. |

| Personal Description: My name is Arturo Marcos, I am Spanish. I have been travelling a lot in my life, because of this I speak four languages, I understood that we are here to learn more every day, so, to me, every day is a new lesson. I studied Audiovisual Communications in Salamanca, Spain; it would be a mix between media studies and film studies here in the United Kingdom. I have experience in several job areas such as teaching (the main one here), cinema and audiovisual production, magic... And I am a happy person that wants to help others so I guess is nice to have me around ;-D |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching in different levels and conditions. I worked in the Dominican Republic, helping teachers with all the subjects taught to kids in a age range from 3 to 11. I also taught Spanish in France and Italy to independent adults; and English and French in Mexico. I have also been responsible for kids in several summer camps, where I was one of the oldest. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a professional and extroverted person. I like to learn and to teach, so I always look for active feedback in my lessons. I always thought the most important thing is to enjoy what you study, so I am in constant search for the right method to achieve this. I am a bit stubborn and this makes me be insistent and a bit demanding, because even if you enjoy it you have to make an effort, to work hard to get what you want. |

| Personal Description: My personal and vocational interests are varied and range from gardening to international politics. I have a passion for reading and culture, making me informed and knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects. My weekends are spent walking my dog in the countryside, which helps me to collect my thoughts and allows me to appreciate life outside of the city in which I spend most of my life. While I currently work as a part-time teacher and journalist, I have held many positions of varying responsibility. Throughout these professional experiences, I have been engaged in some form of teaching or training and have taught a wide diversity of people in a range of subjects. |
Teaching Experience: Having been a gardener for many years, the first subject I taught was gardening and landscaping, which was for long-term unemployed people who were working on environmental regeneration projects. Since then, I have taught in various colleges and for many charities and training providers. My teaching qualification is in adult education, but I have experience working with young people, as well as excluded pupils and (ex-)offenders. My teaching has usually been in Media- or English-related subjects, but I have also taught Critical Thinking, Sociology and Film Studies, to name but a few. |
Tutoring Approach: My main aim is to ensure that tutor and tutee respect each other and are able to talk to each other properly. While passing exams is important, creating a space in which ideas and thoughts can be shared is also necessary to assist with the learning process. Being a qualified teacher, I am able to assist you in your educational development. As a person, I am able to help you and ensure that you get more out of the experience than just a piece of paper. |

| Personal Description: I am an academic (PhD in philosophy; areas of specialistion are German thought and the philosophy of human communication), with a passion for teaching. I work with children and adults and can draw not only on academic experience but also on several years of experience as a strategic communication manager in international business. I am fluent in Dutch, German and English and understand the challenges of non-native speakers in the English school system or in working life very well. |
Teaching Experience: I have significant experience as a university lecturer (philosophy, communication, rhetoric (communication skills, reading and writing skills, textual analysis and essay writing), executive-level business teaching (including business ethics)) and as a high school teacher (in the Netherlands; philosophy). |
Tutoring Approach: I use contemporary pedagogical insights and approaches to learning that emphasise interactive learning, self-motivation, reflective learning and the formative dimensions of the learning process. Naturally, I always look at your individual needs, circumstances and learning styles. I tend to work from a holistic perspective and stimulate my students to become self-learners. Whether more skills-oriented or more geared towards furthering insight and understanding, my lessons are concentrated, require active participation and - hopefully - speak to students' natural curiosity. They are usually very effective. I use a combination of instruction, exercises and discussion, followed up by homework and/or on-line tutoring. |

| Personal Description: I am currently a doctoral researcher undertaking my PhD at The University of Glasgow, a personal tutor, a proof reader, a note taker and a support worker for various universities and agencies. I also hold a BA (Hons) undergraduate degree and an MLitt (Master of Letters) postgraduate degree. I am a qualified personal tutor in 15 subject areas and am rated a 10/10 tutor by Alpha Tutors. I also do some freelance writing and have contributed numerous articles to the website Helium, most of which are voted number one in their category, I have also had several articles published in society newsletters and publications, including The International Crosby Circle and The Sinatra Music Society. I have organised an international conference, a departmental postgraduate symposium and presented papers at both events. |
Teaching Experience: I work as a Top-Up Tutor for the University of Glasgow where I go to different schools and prepare S5 and S6 students for university; as a Proof Reader, Note Taker and Support Worker for disabled students at the University of the West of Scotland and am a freelance personal on-line and off-line tutor qualified in 15 subject areas including English Language, English Literature, Media Studies, Film Studies, and General Writing Skills. I work via Alpha Tutors, UK Tutors, Tutors4Kids and Fleet Tutors and teach from pre-exam age to Standard Grade, Higher, GCSE, A-Level, University level and Adult Learners. I have been tutoring since August 2007 and have chalked up around 400 tutoring hours in these subjects. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that learning should be fun and in a relaxed atmosphere but at the same time academic and useful. My approach to teaching is to have the tutor and student both feel that they are getting a lot out of the experience and that the time is being well used. I will break down subjects into easily manageable blocks and make sure that my student understands the unit before moving on. I also like to vary my tutorials by having some in the form of lectures, some in the form of question and answers, some where I will give students feedback on homework they have done and suggestions to improve what they have done, etc. I also find that on-line tuition is the best method and students can ask questions that they may not ask if they were face-to-face with someone, it is a much more relaxed approach but students get a lot out of it (and can save all the notes from lessons for use later on) |

| Personal Description: I am a post graduate with nine years of teaching experience in tutoring students and professionals. |
Teaching Experience: As metioned, as a tutor it's been tweleve. I have been coaching since I was in High School. The reason why I came to tutoring was my ability to explain complex concepts with enormous success, even to people who did not had English as their first language. |
Tutoring Approach: As a tutor, I mainly focus and follow Interactive Based Learning (I.B.L.) where I encourage my tu-tee to express themselves which really helps me to judge where they actually get stuck with their subjects. I strictly do not follow the stereotype BROADCAST METHOD which really helps my tu-tee to make maximum use of time and the tutor. With a very limited amount of classes, my tu-tee gets well ahead as compared to other students. |

| Personal Description: I am a South American person who came to this country 10 years ago. Now I have a family and a career in Film & Media Production. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience teaching Spanish one to one for few years. I have also given voluntary workshops in video recording where I need not only focused on a 121 basis but in group performance. |
Tutoring Approach: First thing is to boost the self-confidence of the tutee. Then to break down the big barriers into small knots the tutee can undo with relatively easyness. I also practice and encourage the can-do attitude. |

| Personal Description: I'm a 30 year old woman with a passion for studying. I moved to Aberdeenshire last year to enjoy a more rural life with my partner; I enjoy getting into the sea in my wetsuit! Previously, I have lived and worked in London, Edinburgh, Wellington (New Zealand), and the Darjeeling District (NE India). My approach to life is a positive one; I am a happy person with an enthusiastic attitude. |
Teaching Experience: My teaching experience includes: - Primary pupils with basic reading skills (London) - Standard Grade and Higher students in English Comprehension and Literature (Edinburgh) - Indian School students, between 4 - 16 years old, with English Language (India) - adults with English as a second language (reading, speaking and comprehension) |
Tutoring Approach: I tutor according to each student's individual needs, which starts with listening to the student. I then guide them through different problem solving methods or introduce them to new ways of thinking. As well as tutoring on specific subjects, it is important that tutoring helps the student to feel confident about their abilities. I have found that by engaging with students' imaginations it helps them to express themselves with more clarity and confidence. Tutoring is about helping students to achieve good grades as well as enjoying the learning experience. |

| Personal Description: I've just finished Sixth Form completing the subjects English Literature, Psychology and Chemistry and I hope to attend University this september. Looking to tutor for something to add on my CV and as a part-time job, with my forte being English (predicted A grade for A-Level). All tutees welcome, with prices negotiable! |
Teaching Experience: No formal teaching experience but I have helped tutor friends, siblings and other groups of children from my Sixth form. Lots of experience working with kids - I ran a badminton club for the duration of my A-Level studies, so the environment is familiar to me. |
Tutoring Approach: I think with any subject, building blocks need to be worked upon by tutor, tutee and parents. This ensures a vast array of knowledge is covered over any particular subject. I'm new to tutoring but I intend to set regular ongoing homework, implementing resources such as flash cards, pop quizes and other techniques which i've adapted to ensure retainment of knowledge. Also learning syllabuses/marking criteria is essential, allowing me to best evolve the work of the tutee. |
