Personal Description:
I studied French and European studies in Birmingham before moving to Southampton. I currently work part time and study part time. I am interested in movies - especially Spanish and French, reading, photography as well as current affairs.

Teaching Experience:

During my university degree I spent a year living in Dunkirk, France where I taught adults both business and general English. At the same time I also tutored some children from a nearby school. I have worked with many Phd students through their English in their dissertations and currently tutor GCSE students.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is really something that needs to be enjoyable. It's not like other jobs and why should it be? At the same time it is something I take seriously. I am more than willing to accomodate needs whether they be for an education, for an exam or for pleasure.

Personal Description:
Hi there,

My name is Jean-Charles. I am a 29-year-old French male. I have been living, studying and working in the UK for more than two years. I worked as a chef two years ago, as a French assistant last year and as a trainee-teacher this year when studying the PGCE French with Spanish. I am now a qualified teacher and I work in a comprehensive school near Reading.
Before coming to the UK, I studied philosophy and French language and literature at the Université de Strasbourg. I have a very good knowledge of French literature and grammar and it has been very helpful to my past tutees.

I am easy-going and I adapt myself easily. One of my favourite hobbies is speaking foreign languages and discovering new cultures.

Teaching Experience:

In Reading:
I have been teaching French in a comprehensive school to pupils aged from 11 to 18.

In Liverpool:
I have been tutoring a mature student to improve her speaking from January 2012.
As part of my PGCE, I taught French from Y7 to Y13 and Spanish up to Y9 from October 2011 to 2012.

In Grimsby:
As a French assistant, from November 2010 to May 2011, I helped primary and secondary students with their French on a one-to-one basis, in small groups and I also taught lessons to whole classes.

In Bolton:
I taught French language -grammar and literature- to a mature-student retired from teaching from October 2009 to March 2010. (testimonial available)

In Strasbourg:
I gave lessons in French to a 16-year-old girl in Strasbourg in the summer 2010.
I also helped two primary school pupils with their homework from 2007 to 2011.

Tutoring Approach:

As I strongly believe that languages and cultures come together, I always strive to work on authentic material and I also give my tutees many opportunities to learn in out of tution context in order to develop their cultural knowledge.

However, for me the most important in teaching is to meet the needs of learners. Therefore, my priority is first of all to assess the needs of my tutees. Tutees may want to develop only some of the 4 skills: speaking, listening, reading, or writing, depending on the use they want to make of French. They also may have particular topics they want to work on, functions of their needs, projects or tastes.

This student-led approach must be carried on throughout the lessons. The role of the tutor is to maximise opportunities for the learner to discover things by themselves because this is the most efficient and enjoyable way to learn.

Last but not least, languages are interesting and fun at the same time. They develop thinking skills as well as they provide entertainment. My tutoring reflects this philosophy. This is why I always try to alternate entertainment and thinking time during the lessons.

Personal Description:
Having completed my undergraduate degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University, followed by a Masters degree in Politics with distinction, I am now a speechwriter and chief of staff to a member of the House of Lords who is the former CEO of a FTSE100 company. I am very keen to share my enthusiasm for my subject areas with students. Whilst at university I was involved in a wide variety of activities, including editing a magazine, conducting an orchestra and captaining a squash team, so I understand the pressures students face to balance academic studies with extra-curricular activities. By providing effective, valuable tutoring, I hope I can ease these pressures.

Teaching Experience:

With five years' experience of the Oxford tutorial system (including a period conducting admission interviews for undergraduates), and two years' experience writing high profile speeches and newspaper articles, I can provide challenging, engaging and friendly tutoring at a variety of levels, including to those preparing for applications to Oxford or Cambridge. I offer a particular focus on rigour and precision when it comes to students expressing themselves; in my experience, this can make all the difference when it comes to an academic or entrance exam. The broad nature of my degree means I can offer tutoring in Economics, Politics, Maths (including statistics), German and French, all of which I studied at A Level or university myself. As a post-graduate student of politics, I can also offer particular expertise here.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a real passion for my subject areas, and I believe that an enthusiastic tutor is the first step in enabling a student to achieve their full potential, whatever level they may be studying at. For exciting, dynamic tutoring from someone with extensive experience of one of the most admired teaching systems in the world, please get in touch!

Personal Description:
My name is Julia and I am 22 years old. I have just finished the third year of my MSci Astrophysics degree at University College London, but am moving home over the summer break from university so I am looking to tutor in Birmingham until late September.

I completed 5 A-Levels (Maths, French, Physics, Chemistry and General Studies) at King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls in Birmingham, receiving 3 A grades (Physics, French, General Studies) and 2 B grades (Maths, Chemistry). I have a keen interest in the languages as well as the sciences, and at GCSE received 9 A* grades and 4 A grades, so am able to teach a very wide spectrum of subjects confidently. I can only add six subjects to my profile but this is not comprehensive, so feel free to message me if you need a particular subject that I haven't mentioned!

If your child has struggled with this year's school work or you are concerned about how well they will progress to the next year of study, then I can provide booster classes to help prepare them for the start of term. If you just want to give your child a head-start on next year's work or keep them on track over the long summer holiday, then I have a wealth of resources that can support and stretch your child.

Teaching Experience:

I have previous experience tutoring for both Physics and French at secondary school at GCSE level, and in the last 4 years I have taught almost 15 students in a wide range of subjects. I am looking for students to teach over the summer holidays during July, August and September. I also have extensive babysitting experience as I was a nanny for three young girls last year, so if you need a combination of a nanny/babysitter and someone who can help with homework, then I can help!

Tutoring Approach:

I hope to encourage more people to take an interest in the sciences and study them at a higher level, and after my degree I plan to take a teaching qualification and hopefully work in secondary schools to achieve this goal. I also feel having a second language is more important now than ever, and I hope I can pass on my passion for languages to my students - I have been teaching myself Italian since Christmas and hope to study more intensively over summer. Parents of my students consistently describe me as responsible and approachable, and are constantly recommending me to their friends. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions - I pride myself on being approachable and flexible.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and motivated individual who has a commitment to teaching. I have successfully completed a Mathematics PGCE in secondary teaching and work at an outstanding school.

I enjoy skiing, indo-boarding and keeping fit. I am friendly and I get on well a wide range of people. I like challenging myself and I enjoy helping people. I have a full UK driving licence and I have my own transport.

My most recent CRB check is from July 2013.

Teaching Experience:

My PGCE year showed me different ways to teach children and emphasised being flexible and adaptable to the individual needs to every child. I incorporate this into my teaching practice on a daily basis and have managed to get it down to an art for tuition too.

During my final year at university, I decided to take on the role of note taker/tutor to a visually impaired first year PPE student. This helped me to fully appreciate the art of communication because I had to learn new techniques to implement when typing up mathematical notation and complicated economic expressions. This aided my organisational and time keeping skills as I had to complete my final year studies simultaneously. I undertook this role so that I could enhance my listening and communication skills. But I finished this role having understood the intricacies of teaching Mathematics to someone who has difficulty due to a disability. I was a successful tutor and my work was valued highly but my greatest achievement within this role was ensuring that the student understood what I taught. Carrying out this enriching role meant I saw the student decipher the complex and challenging mathematics and this confirmed teaching as a career choice.

I decided to use the summer of 2010 fulfilling one of my dreams by working with vulnerable children from underprivileged backgrounds in one of the world's fastest developing nations: India. I taught Mathematics and English to Secondary School students using my Hindi language skills to communicate and ensure that the children understood everything that I was trying to convey. I fulfilled this voluntary role for a period of 3 months and it gave me a very deep insight into what a career in teaching would be like. I travelled 18km on a daily basis but I was happy to give up my time during the week and on the weekend in order to teach or invigilate exams. I was committed to sharing my knowledge and giving the best of myself. This experience showed me that it is important to keep thinking and learning new things in order to be a successful teacher. I created teaching plans before each lesson and took advice from the Head Master and my colleagues which meant that I was able to develop at a rapid pace. I recognise that I still have much to learn but I am ready for the next challenge which awaits me. This experience was heart rendering and left me feeling fulfilled in a way I have never felt before.

I have taught over 30 pupils over the last few years. This has ranged from several A level pupils, several GCSE pupils and a handful of primary school pupils. I have also taught university students in Economics. I have taught both male and female students from varying ages. Pupils tend to find that they gel with me quite well compared to previous tutors they've had.

My students notice a difference in their progress within a very short amount of time because I genuinely care about helping them to get the most out of their potential. One of my languages' students has seen a rapid increase in a matter of weeks in terms of her spoken and written work. All of my Economics' students have seen particularly quick progression in terms of analytical and evaluation skills.

I am a hard working and conscientious tutor - I take my work very seriously and I am committed to helping students perform exceptionally well. The feeling I get from seeing a student finally understand a concept is the greatest feeling in the world. However, I don't take myself too seriously and am very easy to get on with.

Overall - I can help with routine homework, assignments, exam preparation, more focused revision, improving memory and making subjects fun and relatable!

Tutoring Approach:

I plan things and I like to identify a student's weaknesses so that I can help them to kick the demons and enjoy a subject in a way they never have done before. I think making the base of any subject strong is essential and means that a student can develop quicker. I also know that it's important not to overload students with too much information so I make things manageable and progress tends to be very fast :)

What are you waiting for? Get in touch to find out more!

Personal Description:
I have recently finished my masters degree in English and French Comparative Literature at Oxford University and also studied English and French at Oxford for my undergraduate degree. At school I obtained 4 As at A Level and 11 A*s at GCSE. I am passionately interested in the arts, especially literature, and enjoy passing on my knowledge and enthusiasm. As of October I will be studying for a GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) before beginning my job as a solicitor at a Magic Circle Law Firm in 2016.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored a wide range of subjects, abilities and ages, from primary school to adult education including A levels and GCSEs. I have also prepared candidates for Oxbridge interviews with an 100% success rate. While living in France I taught English as a foreign language and have taught French conversation to non-native speakers. Finally, I was a subject mentor at university, helping younger students with their work.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a student finds it easier to learn when they are interested in their subject. Therefore, I attempt to foster an interest in and curiosity about learning. I enjoying teaching through different mediums, for example looking at film or TV adaptations of a novel or play. Moreover, as a recent student myself, my personal interest is fresher and therefore more stimulating than tutors who have been teaching the same old stuff for years.

Personal Description:
I am a final year university student studying at University College London. I study French and Arabic, and have been speaking and learning French academically since the age of 8. I particularly specialise in literature and spoken language. I completed my A-level in French with a record result of 590/600 UMS marks, achieving a top 5% grade in the United Kingdom. I also completed an AS level in Religious Studies, and it is still a subject which I read into regularly outside of my university degree.

I have recently returned from a year spent studying abroad, where I spent 5 months in Amman, Jordan developing my spoken Arabic language. I also spent 6 months in Montpellier, France where I undertook a number of university courses to develop my French language further and also to further immerse myself into the French culture.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously been involved in teaching English, Maths and Sciences whilst at school to fellow classmates through a formal "Student Tutor" system up until GCSE grade. I have tutored French GCSE/A-Level students with helping with Oral/Speaking practice as well as literature study sessions.

At University I have been a mentor for a number of years, helping incoming first year students with the transition from school to university and also helping them with the academic difficulties of their courses within the French department.

Tutoring Approach:

When learning a language, it required a different approach to learning a science. This is something I have developed over learning a language for over 10 years. You can never completely learn a language, it is a constant process. Therefore my approach to teaching it is to first assess what the individual goals are of the student and then map out the logical and realistic path to achieve them within the given timeframe.

Teaching sessions will be planned and will require a degree of preparation from the student to benefit fully from them. Speaking sessions, dependant on the level required, would be structured around the syllabus and would mostly take part in French, however I would strive to push the student to perform slightly above what is generally required, so as to ensure the highest possible grade. With literature sessions, preparation is crucial. Whether a film, a book or poetry, pre reading is essential.

I try to tailor my sessions as much as possible to the individual needs of each student and would be happy to discuss how they would prefer to have the sessions structured to best suit their requirements.

Personal Description:
My name is Lenka and I am an experienced and qualified language teacher. I am passionate about languages and I love teaching. I have traveled a lot and lived in different countries. I studied Spanish and French literature at an Italian university and lived in Spain where I studied Spanish language, culture and journalism. I qualified as a secondary language teacher at Lancaster University and worked as a teacher in the independent sector for 7 years. I currently work as a freelance language tutor as well as an ESOL lecturer which I thoroughly enjoy. I offer both adult vocational classes and targeted exam revision classes for students of all ages. I can provide lessons tailored to everybody's needs in form of individual or group lessons. I am flexible with my time and have my own transport.

Teaching Experience:

• tutor in a language school teaching all year groups and individuals
• teacher in two comprehensive schools teaching KS3, KS4 and Sixth Form
• language teacher in an independent boarding school (13-18) teaching Spanish, French and Italian at GCSE and A-level
• tutor in adult education
• vast experience with private language tutoring

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching philosophy is that a thorough knowledge of grammar as well as the ability to communicate is essential for learning a language successfully. I advocate a communicative approach and I teach in a relaxing atmosphere so that my students feel at ease and not afraid of communicating in a foreign language and at the same time they can learn by assessing their own mistakes.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly and approachable 25 year old Veterinary Surgeon, currently living in Liverpool and undertaking further training in order to become a European Specialist in Veterinary Dentistry. I also have a Masters Degree in Physiology from Cambridge University. I am passionate about Maths and the Sciences, and feel very fortunate to have a job where I use them on a daily basis. I love teaching students, particularly when I can aid understanding and recall by putting the information in their course into a real life context. Outside of work I am a keen footballer and Liverpool fan, and also enjoy playing rugby and cricket and reading French Literature.

Teaching Experience:

I have 3 of years teaching experience at Cambridge University, where I taught one to one/small group tutorials and practical classes, and also marked and assisted students with course work and dissertations. I also have experience working with younger people through coaching cricket, conducting mock interviews for Vet School and assisting with extra Maths teaching for primary school children.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that the main benefit of private tuition is that it can be tailored to an individual. I therefore take a flexible, pupil-centric approach to tutoring, ensuring I cover any areas in which the student feels they would like more help. I am also happy to provide an overview of the course, focussing on core topics and those which frequently come up in exams if required. I like to work systematically and ensure that the student is completely happy with a topic before moving on to the next - some of the concepts we have to cover can be very tricky and I try to make it clear to my students that if there's anything at all that they're not sure about, I'll be happy to go through it for as long as we need to before they understand the subject.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and friendly individual with a passion for learning. I studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University and subsequently completed an MSc in the History and Philosophy of Science at the London School of Economics. I am fascinated by the natural world and by scientific enquiry. When I'm not teaching or learning I enjoy foreign cinema, playing tennis, and strumming the guitar.

Teaching Experience:

After completing undergraduate degree, I worked as a full-time teacher at d'Overbroeck's Sixth Form College, Oxford. During this four-year period, I taught A-level Philosophy, Sociology and Religious Studies (all AQA examining board). More recently, I have worked as a teaching assistant at Canterbury High School, focussing on struggling students and helping them achieve their potential. Concurrently, I have also worked as a private tutor teaching GCSE Maths, Chemistry and Physics as well as 11+ Maths preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

Once I understand exactly what a tutee hopes to achieve (e.g. A* Maths GCSE, or simply understanding algebra) I have three main priorities as a tutor:

i) to identify a students strengths and weaknesses through short tests

ii) to provide a course of study and assessment that will focus on the weaknesses and monitor progress

iii) to give the student belief in themselves and their abilities and to instil a love of learning!
