Personal Description:
I am a postgraduate from the University of Leeds with a degree in Translation Studies with French. I have a passion for speaking French and I enjoy helping others with theirs. Simple as that really.

Teaching Experience:

Despite my relatively young age I have lots of teaching experience. I have been an English language assistant in France on two occasions, most recent of which was last year. I have worked with people with both adults and children ranging from ages 7 to 40

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is fairly straight-forward, to keep it relaxed and as informal as possible. I believe the best results can be obtained when the student is relaxed and confident, especially with regards to trying to speak a foreign language, as sometimes in a school environment the student lacks the confidence to ask questions. Rest assured, under my tuition your competence in written and spoken French will improve greatly, and hopefully it will be fun!

For students focusing on exam preparation, I also ensure that my students are secure in their knowledge and understanding of grammatical concepts and make frequent use of past papers.

Personal Description:
I am currently an actor at the Central School of Speech and Drama, having already studied Modern Languages (French and Spanish) at the University of Durham which included time living and studying in Vigo (Spain) and Clermont-Ferrand (France).

Teaching Experience:

Following completion of my CELTA qualification in Spain in 2007 (which involved teaching adult learners of English), I have variety of experience in teaching from helping fellow students at University, teaching English in a French Lyce and at summer school in the UK.

Tutoring Approach:

The important part of tutoring is creating a more individual approach to learning and the subject or subjects. I feel it is important to discover what about the subject interests the tutee or how we can hook the topic to the individual so that you feel the desire to learn more about the subject of your own accord. It is important that learning is fun and not a chore and so, as well as thoroughly working towards any coming assessments, I like to work around the subject to find what it is about the subject is important to you so that the learning becomes grounded in the individual which gives a deeper knowledge and understanding of the subject.

Personal Description:
I am a 21 year old, final year student at the University of Leeds where I study French and Spanish. As my educational record shows, I have excellent linguistic skills and I am very hardworking. I also pride myself on being friendly, patient and logical. I completed a term abroad in Granada where I took an intensive Spanish language course. There I acquired a level C1/2 according to the European framework of reference for languages, the highest possible, and received 9/10. I have just come back from my year abroad in Versailles where I was British Council Language Assistant. I am now fluent in both French and Spanish.

Teaching Experience:

I undertook a seven month teaching placement in Versailles, France (October 2013 - April 2014), where I taught English as a Foreign Language in two Secondary Schools. I have also given private lessons since 2012, as well as teaching private English lessons in France. One girl I taught increased her grade from a B to an A* in her French GCSE oral. Furthermore, I assisted language classes at my school between 2009 and 2011 for years 7 - 11.

Tutoring Approach:

My approaches are various. Having completed my A levels and GCSEs relatively recently, exam technique is still fresh in my mind and I hope to be able to teach students how exams work as (a bit unfortunately) this is very important these days. However I am a strong advocate of instilling the foundations of language, namely grammar and vocabulary, as this is how I learnt best and how you can understand a language. I also believe in immersing yourself as much as possible, for those who are serious about learning a language - by watching films, TV programmes, reading books and writing. Practice is vital if one is to achieve a high level and there can be no short cuts. I am also happy to work through topics in a textbooks and helping with exercises as, as mentioned earlier, practice really does make perfect.

Of course, lessons will be tailored to individual needs, and they can be as formal or informal as one likes: from straight grammar to half an hour of chatting for those who aren't learning a language for an exam, for example.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced teacher of both classics and modern languages, and have taught in a variety of secondary schools. I have stopped classroom teaching now because of the demands of a young family but I am keen to carry on teaching in a different capacity. I am passionate about languages, words and communication and love to share this with others. I have lived abroad for prolonged periods in France and Italy, and travel to see friends there whenever possible.

Teaching Experience:

Since completing my PGCE in 1992 I have taught Latin, Greek, French and Italian, from beginners to A level and Oxbridge, in secondary schools, both private and state. More recently I have been giving private lessons to both adults and teenagers.

Tutoring Approach:

Successful language teaching should combine a fun approach using oral practice including song lyrics and games with a more structured approach to grammar; this gives the student confidence that they really understand the language used. The advantage of private lessons is that I can focus on what the individual learner wants, which might be lots of oral practice to become more proficient at speaking, or to pass a specific exam. I do like to set homework from week to week as this is an important part of progress; but it is not compulsory!

Personal Description:
Hello I am a native French tutor. I not only teach French because it is my mother tongue but because I think it is a very beautiful and interesting language but also a difficult one to learn. I myself have had to learn two foreign languages, English and Spanish, and I know how difficult and frustrating it can get but I also know how rewarding it is when you make progress.

Teaching Experience:

I am now working as a French Assistant in WGSB in Watford with A-level students, my part being to help them prepare their oral exam. It is my second year in WGSB and I really enjoy the task. I have also worked for a French Language school giving daily 3 hours lessons to teenagers and younger children from around world who come to France to improve their knowledge of French. In Spain where I lived for 7 years I gave private French tutoring lessons mostly to Adults.

Tutoring Approach:

Languages are made of vocabulary, grammar rules and barbaric sounds you just cannot get to pronounce sometimes:). They also reflect and convey a culture and a way of life which should be a part of the learning, especially as it seems to me that those cultural elements are the ones which can actually make the learning easier and more varied. And finally but not least I think learning a language has to be playful and agreeable, otherwise you will unconsciously reject the language and progress will be made much more difficult. Learning about others and learning to communicate in a different language is a great experience. Try it:)

Personal Description:
My name is George, I am twenty-one years old and am currently a pre-final-year student of French and Spanish (BA) at the University of Southampton (I will begin final year in September 2014). My level of competence is higher in Spanish, due to my having spent the last nine months living in Spain on the 3rd Year Erasmus Exchange, a compulsory part of my degree. My written and spoken competency in Spanish is high (firm C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference). In French it is slightly lower, but still of professional standard in writing - last semester I achieved a firm passing mark in a final-year medical, judicial and computational Spanish-to-French and French-to-Spanish translation module at the Universidad de Alicante, in which I was the only student who wasn't a native speaker of either of the languages. As for my Spanish, I have also spent the last six months living with my Spanish girlfriend, who doesn't speak English. She is very well-spoken and I have adopted her style of speech during my time here.

I have a total of ten GCSEs all with grades A*-B, one AS level grade B in Computer Science and three A-grade A levels in Spanish, French and Economics. All of these were achieved during my time at The King's School, Chester (2004-2011).

I enjoy relaxing with my friends, many kinds of music, videogaming and following the world of rowing - I am a competent coxswain for the University rowing club, a sport I took up while at King's. I am generally a relaxed kind of guy to be around, easy to get on with, and pride myself in my ability to "take things easy" and not get stressed.

While living at home with my parents this summer I will have my car and am willing to travel reasonable distances to tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I have no previous teaching experience as such, short of helping my younger brothers pass their GCSE maths. When I understand something well I have no difficulty explaining it to others in a clear manner. I don't know whether it counts in my favour, but I also managed to teach my middle-aged co-workers at my old job in retail how to use the new digital till system - a task far harder than it sounds!

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and non-pressuried style of teaching, and will be able to help the student feel at ease. I do not have access to any teaching material unavailable to the public online, so would need the student to have papers/worksheets/textbooks etc from school for us to work on/go through together, or any problems they may be encountering in their minds for us to resolve. I would not call myself an academic, but my methods have enabled me to get this far with my languages and I would be more than happy to help others find a way to overcome any issues they may have with language learning.

Personal Description:
I am a 20 year old student at the University of Liverpool, studying French and Psychology. I have studied Psychology at A-level and I have been able to speak fluent French from the age of 5, as I was in the French school system up until the age of 15.
I have lived in a number of different countries and have a lot of experience with getting to know new people in new environments. I am told that I am a friendly and approachable person, and I enjoy being able to help others whether this involves academic/school help or just being someone to talk to.
I am the eldest of 3 children and I am very responsible and organised.

Teaching Experience:

I have had some teaching experience, as my mother is a teacher I have been lucky enough to be able to have done some work experience with her in the various schools she has worked at over the past years. I also have experience with homework tutoring for people in my own schools, as well as teaching my own siblings with their homework/coursework.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very friendly and approachable person, making people feel welcome and that they can ask any questions they like in regards to subjects they do not understand fully. When tutoring, I make sure that every subject is covered thoroughly before moving on to the next level/topic.
I ensure that all tutees feel that they can take as much time and ask me as many questions as they like, as I believe that a friendly, non-pressured approach to tutoring is the approach which will produce much more efficient, beneficial results.

Clearly you will need to know if this will be the right arrangement for you, so the first lesson is free with no commitment to continue.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught pupils from 11 years upwards to Advanced Level pupils heading for Oxbridge. I have worked as an examiner for an exam board, set and marked papers at GCSE and taught adults in evening classes.

I have recently successfully coached a pupil who sat and was awarded the Queen's Scholarship to enter Westminster School, London: a unique examination testing a whole range of traditional skills set at a relatively demanding level for this age group. Future candidates would be welcome to contact me.

Tutoring Approach:

The internet offers new opportunities for studying a language: long distance learning is made possible through Skype and Google docs which enable both teacher and student to see and edit each other's work as it is being written, as well as the opportunity to leave spoken feedback and model accents to improve oral fluency: all available at any time to the student.

Tuition also offered in student's home if required.

On-line tasks are set in between lessons to practise skills learnt.

Lively approach including games where appropriate.

Teaching linked to the exam board specification you are working towards including specific skills at GCSE / A level
Grammar taught relevant to your needs.

Feedback after each session to parents/ guardian or carer if requested to include likely grade potential at GCSE / A level.

A / AS level students will work through short accessible texts to build up topic vocabulary but also support class tuition in your college or school.

Common Entrance Level candidates or specific entry exams for schools will receive very focused teaching to prepare for the exam.

Adult tuition for business or leisure.

I would be pleased to work with students in groups of 2 or 3 for a reduced fee per person.

Personal Description:
I am a young, female primary school teacher in the Doncaster/Wakefield area. Aside from my enthusiasm for teaching and helping children to achieve, I am interested in academic areas including sociology and languages. I enjoy travel and reading. I have worked voluntarily as a teaching assistant and completed a degree in Sociology before training to be a teacher. I now work as a supply teacher at primary level and as a personal tutor to primary and secondary level children. I hold an enhanced DBS check dated December 2013.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified primary school teacher who has taught classes of all ages at primary level. As a supply teacher, I have worked in many different schools and, as such, I develop positive relationships very quickly with both children and adults. I enjoy working with individuals and small groups in academic tasks and find that children are very responsive to this lower teacher-pupil ratio. I have found that working in these situations really helps to boost children's concentration and confidence in their work. They also feel more comfortable to ask questions in areas they find difficult. When tutoring, I am to create a positive, friendly and professional relationship where children feel comfortable with what they are learning, but also feel they can ask for help when required.

Tutoring Approach:

I recognise that children learn in many different ways - some by seeing and visualising, some by talking and discussing, and some by doing a physical or mental activity. I aim to tutor children using the learning style that best suits them. In a classroom, it is often difficult to meet the needs of every child. Personal tuition provides children with valuable one-to-one time, where the focus is on them and them alone. I believe that personal tuition does much to increase achievement in those weaker areas, but also serves to challenge and develop knowledge in stronger areas. Following a free initial consultation, I provide personalised programmes of study tailored exactly to meet the needs of the child involved. I am passionate about helping children to reach their full potential and will do all I can to make this happen. Sessions take place in the child's own home and are arranged on a flexible basis with parent or guardian. I can provide tuition from 30 minutes per week to more intensive programmes consisting of several hours per week in the school holidays.

I currently have slots available on weekday evenings and am available most Saturday mornings and early afternoon. I am not available on Sundays.

Personal Description:
I'm a Classics PhD student at Oxford, where I also I completed my undergraduate degree in Classics. I love sharing my enthusiasm for learning, particularly for Latin and Greek.

Teaching Experience:

I've taught one-on-one AS and A level Latin and Greek - both the language and the literature papers. I've taken larger classes of undergraduates at Oxford, both teaching them the languages and reading literary texts.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it's really important for both teacher and student to decide together the method that works best for them, so I don't have a one-size-fits-all approach. I'm patient and have an intuition for what people are finding difficult.

Personal Description:
I have a passion for languages and for the cultural richness associated with them which I believe has an impact on students' learning. My keen interest in languages extends to both their use and structure. During my year abroad in Italy, at the University of Siena, I have attended modules devoted to linguistics and on my return to the University of Warwick I chose to take two options in Applied Linguistics (Introduction to Applied Linguistics: Approaches and Methods ; Foreign Language Teaching: From Method to Practice). Both modules provided me with a subtle understanding of the linguistic processes, educational contexts and psychological factors which play a role in language learning.

My passion for languages and cultures, as well as my personal experience, have given me the ability to adapt and work effectively in a variety of environments and circumstances.

I am looking forward to your reply.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
Vasiliki

Teaching Experience:

I am looking for a career in teaching and thus I am now working as a cover supervisor in some secondary schools.

Modern Foreign Languages have always been one of my great interests. Therefore, alongside my degree, I have been working for a UK based international charity called "International Network of Street Papers" (INSP), translating articles from English to Greek and Greek to English on occasions.

In addition, since September 2013, I have been working at the Greek School of Coventry as a primary teacher delivering lessons partly in English, and at times in Greek. The students while living in England had a Greek heritage, and the school aimed at the promotion of the Greek language and culture through a variety of lessons and activities.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that effective learning can occur in smaller groups of students, thus I strongly recommend tutoring as the teacher can keep track of has been covered and achieved during a lesson by looking closely at each student's progress. In this way you establish a good relationship between tutor and student which enables you to deal easier with matters that may rise, such as lack of concentration, engagement etc.

Personal Description:
I am a 27 year old qualified teacher who has been living in Oxford for the past 5 years. I am an experienced linguist with a degree in Modern Languages, and have lived in France for 7 months where I taught as an English assistant in a French school.

Having had years of experience working as a teacher, I have worked alongside students of all ages and abilities, each with their own unique set of skills and attitudes towards the subject. My enthusiasm for languages and proven track record of helping all students make outstanding progress is what makes me a capable and reliable tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a teacher for the past three years in local Oxfordshire schools, teaching French to GCSE level (11-16) and Spanish to KS3 level (11-14). I have also been involved in co-ordinating and delivering language celebration days for primary school aged students.

Tutoring Approach:

I fell in love with languages while a student myself, and am always inspired by seeing young people feel that same sense of achievement which comes from being able to talk to a person from a different country and culture in their own language.

I am accommodating of all needs and abilities, and always build students up from wherever they are starting from. I aim to help students become self-sufficient linguists by strengthening their understanding of grammar and pronunciation, whilst also working on their listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. Learning a language is fun and fulfilling, and my aim is to make every tutoring experience live up to this.
