Personal Description:
I might be expensive but I am worth it as your child will see a marked improvement in their results and confidence levels. To assess whether I am the right tutor for you I offer the first lesson for free.

I also offer short intensive Maths courses for entrance to American Universities on some weekends. Each course is 2 days long and is specifically tailored for UK students. It is specifically designed to bridge the gap in knowledge, format and techniques between the GCSE Maths exam and the SAT exam. If you use UK Tutors to contact me about the courses I will deduct their fee from the course price.

I was awarded a First Class Honours degree from University College London in 1997 and went on to study a PhD in Quantum Mechanics. On successful completion of my PhD in 2001 I started work at Thales Research and Technology (TRT) where I led projects on Adaptive Learning Systems and Information Management. I initiated the first programme to span the three TRT laboratories in France, Netherlands and UK in the area of Cognitive Systems research. I then went on to set up and lead a large collaborative team between TRT and University of Surrey to study remote collaboration technologies. I joined General Dynamics United Kingdom Limited in 2005, primarily to ensure exploitation of DIF DTC technologies into the UK Ministry of Defence Equipment Programme. I received my Chartered Physicist status in 2004 and am now a director of an innovation company.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience ranges from teaching GCSE students all the way up to teaching PhD students to improve their thesis writing skills. One of my students improved from a D to an A at GCSE level after just six months of tuition with me, and commonly students improve by at least one grade. Apart from the usual syllabuses I am experienced at teaching students the Maths section of the SATs and ACTs in order to get scholarships to American Universities.

Tutoring Approach:

My tuition method involves making Maths and Physics fun so that children and young adults will remember their lessons and overcome the "I can't do science" syndrome. So that you can assess whether or not I am the right tutor for your child I offer the first lesson for free.

Personal Description:
I am a recently retired teacher with over 30 years combined experience in further education, independent and maintained secondary schools. I am now based in a beautiful part of Norfolk, where I paint, give private tuition and run an art club.
My own work is based on observations of mans' intervention in the landscape. I work in oils, water colour, digital photography and print.
My interests in art and design are many and varied, and include, in no particular order, sculpture/ceramics (Moore, Gormley, Perry), photography (Cartier-Bresson and LaChapelle), graphic design (Brody, Bauhaus), and painting (Freud, Klimt, Giotto, Picasso).

Teaching Experience:

My first foray into teaching was in further education as a visiting lecturer in graphic design and illustration. Subsequently, I trained as a secondary school teacher and quickly became head of my first department in a boys grammar school. From there I moved into the independent sector, continuing to work successfully as head of department and head of faculty.
I have extensive experience as a senior regional moderator for GCSE examinations in art and design with a leading examinations board, being responsible for supervising the work of a team of visiting moderators in the south east of England, and for resolving disputes with schools. I do voluntary work for the National Trust, giving occasional talks to schools on symbolism in Tudor portraits.

Tutoring Approach:

Having started my career as a graphic designer I had, by necessity, to broaden my experience and skills into other two and three-dimensional media in order to become a successful teacher. My departments had outstanding results at GCSE and A-level, and many of my students went on to study at many of the principal art institutions, including Central St Martins, Chelsea, Glasgow, Edinburgh.
Teaching is about finding the unique personality of the individual and finding ways to encourage its expression. Allied to developing the imaginative and creative abilities is the need to create opportunities to build on existing technical skills and introduce new ones. The combination should be fun.

Personal Description:
A qualified maths teacher, DBS checked, with a first class honours degree. I've worked successfully with over 250 students.

Personal Description:
2008 National Teaching Award Winner (Southern Region.)
Volunteer linesman every Sunday - for my 3 sons' football teams.
Keen cyclist - I've cycled further than the distance around the equator as I commuted to and from school.
Animal lover - I enjoy jogging with Scout, my rescue dog.
Educational author - I wrote a maths assessment book that was sold in WHSmith.
Piano player - I accompany a large choir that performs in both the Guildhall and the Cathedral in Portsmouth.
Prioritiser - In 2010 I decided to reduce my hours so that I could spend more time with my wife!

Teaching Experience:

I have been a classroom teacher for 23 years in 3 different schools; I was head hunted for the last job and when I left it in November 2016, it was graded outstanding by OFSTED. I have predominantly worked in year 6 where I have helped to raise standards of attainment - I have been successful in accelerating progress for many pupils (particularly in maths) to double Government expectations.

I have spent most of my career as a maths manager in schools but I have also led English and science. I have been a key stage leader for over 10 years and have mentored trainee teachers who have gone on to have their own successful teaching careers.
Winning the 2008 Award for Best Primary School Teacher in the South was an amazing experience. The judges interviewed pupils, staff and parents - families who weren't able to attend the meeting were able to submit letters of support and the highlight of the whole process was getting to read these testimonials afterwards.

Tutoring Approach:

Every pupil is different: each pupil has their own particular knowledge of facts, procedures and concepts, but they are also unique in their attitude, experience, confidence and motivation. Finding a tutoring approach that best suits each child is very important and, where appropriate, I make use of the recent educational principles of 'Growth Mindset' which challenge the notion that some people are just born clever, and encourages pupils to value risk taking, criticism and effort.

Individual tuition allows time so rarely afforded in whole class lessons to track back and identify the misconceptions that can sometimes be the underlying cause of slow progress or issues with confidence. The focus of good teaching is about building all new learning onto secure foundations and making strong and varied connections between concepts.

Personal Description:
Hi!

After graduating from Oxford University in English Literature, I went on to do what I'd always planned on doing: becoming a musician! I'm a composer, producer and performer, playing several instruments and recording in my home studio, as well as tutoring in both English and Music.

For me, English as a subject has really helped with music, especially with writing lyrics, but also more generally by encouraging me to think creatively, openly, and critically.

Both subjects are really about feeling inspired by creativity, and the electric feeling of making something that is your own, and this is why I'm passionate about both!

Teaching Experience:

(2010 to 2013) English tutorials - During my time at Oxford, as well as being taught myself, I would often have to help students in the years below me with their work, aiding them in the way they approached their studies and wrote essays under pressure.

(2013 to present) Tutoring in music production - I have now taught several students in songwriting and music production, in particular using the recording software Logic Pro. These are lessons I really enjoy - encouraging creativity in a free-flowing and fun way, whilst teaching the music theory behind songwriting, and the complicated techniques involved in recording and mixing music.

(2014 to present) Tutoring drums - For the last 2 years I have been teaching beginners drums to a pupil, helping him to improve his technique, introducing him to new styles of music, and fostering his passion for music.

Tutoring Approach:

English - Doing well at English as a school subject, especially below A-Level, is mainly about following whichever syllabus the student is learning very carefully, and ticking all the boxes required of an essay as efficiently as possible. However, the key to improving at it (as with all subjects), is simply learning to enjoy it more. One to one tuition is perfect for this, because I have time to present the subject matter in a way that each particular student finds useful and enjoyable. I also love to share with students my love of the little things in literature, creative or critical writing that make it worthwhile - the fun in the way sentences and thoughts are put together perfectly. Ultimately, acquiring an enthusiasm for language can help with communicating in any context, whether you're teaching, learning, making new friends or colleagues, or telling a joke.

Music - I play drums, piano, guitar, and sing, but my real strength is in songwriting and producing. If you're looking for a tutor to inspire creative expression, rather than grades based instrument learning, then I'm the tutor for you! I've composed and produced over 200 songs, including music for BBC Radio 4 drama, and I'm especially adept at modern electronic music production. The key to becoming more creative in music, is acquiring a few basic tools that allow you to run with an idea as quickly as possible, without thinking about it, and to learn how to come at a composition from different angles, to prevent frustration or writer's block. Music should be fun and hands on, and it should make you feel proud.

Personal Description:
I am an Education Policy Masters Graduate, Physics graduate and qualified teacher with approximately 3 years of experience in state grammar, comprehensive, and independent schools and over 6 months and counting of experience as a supply teacher in primary and secondary schools. Furthermore, I have over 2 years` experience of being a Maths & Physics specialist with a proven ability to teach a range of ages and abilities. I have a strong desire to make a real difference to students` lives to help them maximise their potential and help give students the stepping stone to their future aspirations. I feel I have a lot of skills (from both the academic and professional side) and knowledge to offer students, and get a great pleasure and real excitement from helping students in anyway I can in their studies to achieve their maximum potential. Lastly, being a personable, friendly and approachable character, and having a smile on my face always helps greatly with the progress of my students.

Teaching Experience:

I am an Education Policy Masters Graduate, Physics graduate and qualified teacher with approximately 3 years of experience in state grammar, comprehensive, and independent schools and over 6 months and counting of experience as a supply teacher in primary and secondary schools. Furthermore, I have over 2 years` experience of being a Maths & Physics specialist with a proven ability to teach a range of ages and abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring approach revolves around giving students the most bespoke package possible, to allow them to maximise their potential. My approach is multifaceted and contains the following:
1. Initially assessing students for their key needs in the subject, and then establishing realistic, moveable targets and milestones with the students, so that the student can have clear goals in mind.
2. Explaining in detail, systematically, the principles to students, building on what he/she already knows, using real-world examples and applications to the students' own interests, while using staggered questioning and individual practice time to encourage students to think for themselves.
3. Producing hand-written/typed collaborative notes for students to take away from at the end of the lesson.
4. Lessons will be fully flexible and organic to take into account students' ever-changing needs in a subject and students can bring questions in from school that will be answered in as much detail as necessary etc.
5. Tackling misconceptions/personal barriers to learning head-on and giving students the confidence and freedom and opportunity to ask questions all the time, to deepen their understanding, no matter how simple the question may be. This would be in an environment with no external pressures, with myself dedicating as much time as necessary to allow the concept to be consolidated securely, and the student knowing they will get a firm answer.
6. Using problem-solving exercises and practice exam papers to develop core skills that will lay foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject, while also being able to transfer those skills in a multitude of different circumstances.
7. Issuing homework regularly to check the students' understanding and technique and perfect and refine it.
Being a qualified teacher, I value greatly and take a huge amount of pride from maximising the potential of students through individualised learning, so that they can reach their goals.
