I am a professional, dedicated and enthusiastic tutor with over 20 years experience, extremely quick at identifying student problem areas and devising the most efficient solutions, sometimes with budget or time constraints. Where necessary I focus on exam technique as I find many capable and knowledgeable students gain confidence (and marks!) once these skills are taught.

I am well-liked by my tutees who understand I want the very best outcome for them, and also that I appreciate they are under pressure to succeed, and my services are frequently recommended to siblings and friends.

Teaching Experience:

As well as many years continuous home-tutoring experience, I have taught in both state and private sectors since 1986; examples being Surrey College (Guildford), Horsell High School (Woking) and Farnborough College of Technology, and as recently as April 2013, the prestigious Seaford College in Petworth, W.Sussex.

I have a vast library of past examination papers in all my subjects at GCSE and GCE A level for Edexcel, AQA and OCR examining boards.

In addition I have some experience tutoring both common entrance and Baccalaureate Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

Tutoring Approach:

I appreciate that for most tutees private tuition represents a workload additional to both schoolwork and homework.

Therefore I aim to make tuition as interesting, interactive and productive as possible- whilst focusing on their objectives- usually a target examination grade. I am an MFL teacher with bags of enthusiasm and an immense passion for French and Spanish. I work in a Boys Grammar School in North Kent, and have enjoyed spells living in Quebec and Aix-en-Provence in the past. I find empathising with students easy, and have girls and boys between 8 years old and adult on my books. I currently teach in a Grammar school in North Kent. I have also done a year's supply in South Yorkshire, as well as in a primary school in France. I also have 9 months experience of teaching French in Essex. I am currently tutoring 4 students going into a third year and I am familiar with the A Level system as well as the IB, having only last year helped two IB students achieve the necessary grades for Durham and Cambridge Universities. I like to support students in their learning by being thorough, professional, but approachable. To introduce myself I am married with two children, a son working in Brussels and a daughter at secondary school. There must be history in the blood in our family as I have a Cambridge history degree, my wife a history degree from Warwick and our son studied history at King's College London!
I remain fascinated by history and always remember the opening lines of J. P Hartley are The Go-Between (some of you may have seen Julie Christie in the film?) "The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there". Recent events underline the importance of our past and understanding how we came to be where we are.

Holidays for me often include visits to historic places. In the last few years, for example we have seen the Vatican, Knossos, Granada and the historic places in New England -Boston, Salem and the Plymouth Plantation. My favourite holiday country is France - because of the food!

Teaching Experience:

Since September 2007 I have been involved in distance learning tutoring Key Stage 3GSCE and AS/A2 history for an open learning organisation. I was pleased though it was mostly due to the students that three obtained A*s and three A in the first IGCSE history examination in summer 2011.This work has included the regular marking of students' essays and other work and support and guidance leading to examinations. I have attended training for the new A Levels.

I can also advise graduate and postgraduate students on dissertations, including proof reading.

Individual tutorial support has been or students retaking examinations, mostly AS and A2 on all three examining boards and I have generally made a positive difference to their results. I do not claim to be able to cover all areas of history but my range is wide. At AS/A2 I can support students covering English history topics from the Tudors to the post Second World war period, Imperial Russia from the Emancipation of the serfs until the 1917 Revolutions and the Soviet Union from 1917 until its ending in 1991. I am also confident in topics in German history from unification in 1870 down to reunification in 1989. Similarly I can cover many topics in French history starting with the revolution in 1789. In terms of international history I am familiar with the key themes from circa 1870 through to the end of the Cold War, including the Vietnam War. I can also cover most themes in American history from the Civil War until the post-war era.
At GCSE and Key Stage 3 I can cover most topics and more recently I have also been teaching a school age pupil with autism. I have an up to date CRB

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to students is to combine high expectations with a willingness at all times to help and advance their understanding, self confidence and self esteem and encourage them to work with increasing independence. When appropriate I work out with them a study programme with clear goals.

Many of the distance learning students I have taught have been home based because they have withdrawn from school due to bullying and some are living outside the UK. So I have good experince in working with those who, for whatever reason, have found learning difficult

My work in supporting students who are resitting examinationsbgeins with a, careful review of their performance. I , check the past examination papers and the examiners' guidance from the exmanination websites so as to discover why a student's performance has fallen short of expectations and plan a programme to achieve better in a reset.

However tutors are not miracle workers. I would stress that the students cannot expect me as tutor to do everything for them but rather they also have to make a major contribution in order to achieve success.

Having recently finished secondary school, I have an extensive knowledge of the education system and what is expected of students with regards to content and examination technique etc.

I feel I can relate to young students as I am not much older and have and still am going through the stresses and strains of exams! I understand how daunting Maths can be, as it certainly was for me when I was younger. However, one-to-one tuition may just be the catalyst that helps students 'click', and suddenly they understand this topic or can do this question.

I am undoubtedly competent in Maths, as shown by my results, and hope to show my students that they can improve their grades.

With the run up to those all-important exams, I can help students gain those crucial marks. I believe that to excel in Maths it is imperative that students practice, something which I can assist in.

Teaching Experience:

Have tutored students from a number of year groups and a range of exam boards including Edexcel and AQA.

Tutoring Approach:

I am open to the student's preferred style of learning and revision. I welcome specific queries and offer most help with exam questions. I can also explain whole topics if it was not picked up by the student at school or need further assistance.

I am a qualified martial arts instructor and teach the Chinese Wing Chun system. I believe sports can contribute towards an all round education and under proper supervision, martial arts can offer health benefits and is beneficial for mental and physical discipline. I am also interested in the promotion of the Chinese language because I am of Chinese origin and can speak Cantonese and Mandarin fluently. I'm Karis, a 21 year old university graduate just looking to help out wherever I can. I have worked with children and young people since mid-secondary school coaching sports. I'm a hard-working, results-driven, positive individual interested in working with children and young people as it wasn't long ago I was in their exact position in GCSE and A-Level. I have coached children since aged 14 in a range of sports to try and help them develop a variety of interpersonal skills, and skills and qualities in the sports.
Between the age of 16-18 I ran an after-school netball club in primary schools to develop a team and take them to competitions.
After leaving 6th form I continued going in to primary schools with my secondary school teacher, assisting her in leading sessions for the children.
During university, I completed work placements working as a teaching assistant in London.
I also worked on a project for university in taking sports and nutrition in to primary schools to relieve teachers of their PE lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to be as easy-going and laid-back as I can be in my approach, I listen to what the child has to say and I help them and try to ease their knowledge out of them with a variety of questions. Its a self-discovery/self-guided approach using Mosston's Spectrum of teaching. For example, I'd ask them questions based on a particular topic or question they need to be able to answer, which leads them to figure out the correct answers themselves, etc. Not only will I use a self-discovery route, but when necessary I'd provide information and knowledge that I know in order to help them achieve their potential.

I am a passionate teacher that specialises in Modern Greek language, Ancient Greek and Byzantine History.

Personal Description:
I have tutored university level mathematics at Notre Dame University in Australia and have previously taught mathematics to students of varying ages and abilities from GCSE pupils to final year dissertation students in the UK and abroad.

I offer lessons in the comfort of your own home.
Alternatively I am able to host lessons online or in a quiet study space in my own home for a discounted 15-20 per hour dependent on the subject.

I have utilised my maths skills in the following industries. As a statistician for Friends Life Insurance (now part of Aviva), a statistical research officer and database administrator for a private urological company and as an accounts assistant for Samsung UK.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored university level mathematics at Notre Dame University in Australia and have previously taught mathematics to students of varying ages and abilities from GCSE pupils to final year dissertation students in the UK and abroad.

I am currently tutoring 1 primary school and 4 GSCE pupils around the Cirencester and Swindon area. They would be happy to provide a reference should you require. I have still teaching slots available on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings

I am enrolled on a part-time PGCE course with Gloucestershire University to gain qualified teaching status.
