Teaching Experience:

I have experience in both primary and secondary schools from undertaking voluntary work whilst at University. About Fani:
I am a PhD student doing research on Iranian Cinema. I have studied Film Studies in both undergraduate and graduate level and wish to share this knowledge with others. I enjoy explaining theories and ideas in simple terms and this has been my writing style throughout my academic studies. I am looking forward to an academic career focusing on teaching and lecturing. I am a native Greek speaker and could also teach my language to those who are interested. I am very friendly, encouraging and supportive, sensitive to people's emotions, perceptive of how others feel.
My education has given me a valid foundation from which I can proceed in offering to others what I have learnt and what I have found out myself, giving them space and time to also discover more.

Teaching Experience:

Unfortunately I do not have any teaching experience.

Tutoring Approach:

Although I have got no experience I could use the experience I gained from the others that taught me. What I enjoyed from my own tutors such as helping me to understand, to discover things my self and to express myself freely-independence and support- is something I wish to keep when teaching others. Nevertheless what I disliked, such as being overly critical over one's mistakes or impatient when one does not learn or understand on the pace he/she is expected, is something that I will avoid. I believe in listening to others before doing the talking and sometimes let the others lead the conversation in order to see what they are interested in and what they can learn from me.

About Emma:
I am a hard-working, experienced and enthusiastic teacher. I have a great passion for English language and literature which I hope to pass on to my tutees. I have enjoyed passing on my knowledge over the past seven years as a classroom teacher, and I am looking forward to returning to work as a private tutor to offer some vital one-on-one help, encouragement and confidence where it is needed.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a secondary school teacher for almost seven years, in Australia and the UK. I have worked chiefly as an English teacher, but I also have some experience in French, Indonesian and drama. I have worked on language and literacy programmes with special needs students, as well as extension programmes for gifted students. As well as my everyday classroom teaching, I have also planned and delivered after-school and holiday revision sessions.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that one-on-one assistance can make an immense difference to a student's attainment. I would usually begin a tutoring assignment by finding out about a tuee's feelings about English, where they feel their challenges are, and what they think of the texts they are studying. I feel it is important that I get to know a bit about the student and their needs before planning out our sessions. I would also ask to see the tasks the tutee has been set by their classroom teacher, and would work with the student on raising the quality of each task.

About Shirley:
I am a friendly and outgoing person who loves to smile. I am patient and understanding and currently an undergraduate taking a joint honours in chinese and english.

Teaching Experience:

I was a trained peer supporter in secondary school where I aided younger students with their class/homework. There I also worked with teachers in finding and trying out fun ways to encourage students to learn and take part in community/social events. A key aspect of the job was to provide support for any students with any social issues.
For the past year I worked with tutoring my younger cousin in her keystage 3 mathematics.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that everyone learns best with different methods be it taking notes or practically taking part, therefore I like to adapt my teaching methods to best suit each learner. However I have a few basic rules and guidelines, to ensure the tutee understand how things work. To understand the method and approach to reach the answer which is more significant than the actual answer itself at times. Often I like to revisit and go back to basics.

About Sara:
I am reliable, friendly and mature. I am a committed teacher but in the rare occasions that I have some spare time I enjoy reading (anything that allows me to escape reality...wizards, magic and dragons are particular favourites!), playing badminton or tennis, swimming and catching up with much neglected family and friends! I am the proud owner of a Mini Cooper, love driving and listening to music.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experiences have highlighted a necessity to vary, adapt, reflect and improvise different teaching pedagogies to maximise the accessibility, understanding, progression and attainment encompassing all of the National Curriculum subjects. Applying suitable guidance, not only for academic achievement, but also to provide a stable learning environment where each pupil feels safe, valued, cared for and included. I am currently teaching year 3 in a primary school in Cheshunt but am competent and confident teaching all year groups, KS1 - KS4, covering core and foundation subjects of the National Curriculum. I am the ICT co-ordinator and believe ICT used appropriately can enhance and enthuse learning and understanding. I have taught in schools that vary vastly in demographics with children spanning a broad spectrum of abilities, highly gifted or talented to specific learning difficulties. I relish the daily challenges and the immeasurable rewards that teaching offers.

Tutoring Approach:

I strive to provide an effective and stimulating learning environment which motivates all pupils and captivates their attention; promoting equal opportunities through selecting and demonstrating appropriate teaching techniques; using a range of assessment styles to influence target setting and progression in learning. Tutoring provides a unique opportunity to work with a child on a one-to-one basis, focusing on specific areas of learning and development. I set clear learning objectives to scaffold and support learning. I endeavour to make learning personal, interesting and fun; however, I do have high expectations and will reward hard work at every opportunity. I have successfully tutored GCSE mathematics, KS2 Science for SATs, reading and writing skills (KS2/3) and will be happy to provide references on request.

About Datta:
I originally trained as a teacher in India and taught Maths and Science in a secondary school. After getting married I moved to England and worked as an industrial chemist at the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) for 3 years. I also did M.Sc. in organic chemistry during this period. After having a family I decided to give up my job so that I could spend more time in the development of my 2 children. When the children started growing up I joined the family business on a part-time basis to begin with and then got more actively involved as the children got older. However over the past few years I have again become involved in teaching other children.

Teaching Experience:

I taught Maths and Science for a few years in a secondary school in Mumbai and Gujrat, India until 1968.
I taught upto GCSE level Gujrati for 3 years at a community centre till last year in Birmingham.
I taught children about Hinduism as part of their cultural studies curriculum up to GCSE level at the same community centre.
I am doing voluntary work at a local primary school in Sutton Coldfield 1 day a week assisting in Maths and English studies for the last 9 months.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that I really enjoy teaching young children. I am very patient with them. I believe once they understand the principles of a subject, their grasping power to learn more complex ideas is greatly increased. Therefore I always make sure the child understands the foundation of the subject first. Once they start understanding the basic principles of the subject they find it very interesting and really enjoy learning.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is simple and straight forward. I identify the level of knowledge of the student during our first meet and also clearly understand what are the student's requirements and how much time we have. Based on the above facts , I sketch out a lesson plan with the student and upon both of us agreeing, I go ahead as per the plan.
I'm extremely patient and can quickly change my ways to suit the students skill and learning ability.

About Michelle:
I am a deputy head teacher on maternity leave. I am 35 years old and thoroughly enjoy teaching. I am a family person, my fiance and I have a young son, therefore I have taken 1 year off work to look after him.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for 10 years. 2 years were in a year 3 class, the last 8 have been teaching year 6. I am now a deputy head teacher, although I am currently on maternity leave. I teach in year 6 for 3 days/week and deputy head work the other 2 days. I taught in an inner city school in London for 4 years which was both challenging and rewarding!! I have tutored previously for 3 years, English, maths and science up to KS2 S.A.T.'s level and have also tutored up to G.C.S.E level in both maths and English.

Tutoring Approach:

I would be willing to either come to the child's home to tutor or would be happy to tutor from my own home. My approach to tutoring is to make the lessons as practical as possible and keep the learning fun. However I do usually set homework based on the lesson I have taught. I enjoy the one to one contact that tutoring provides as this close teaching can help children to progress quickly, often helping them to overcome problem areas they may have been experiencing.
