Tutoring Approach:
Teaching and learning have shaped my daily experience of life for as long as I can remember. I consistently find the process of receiving and passing on knowledge and understanding both enriching and fun. The process can be difficult at times. Perhaps a pupil will find a particular area of learning a tough battle. I find these occasions all the more significant because I know that the pupil will remember them as milestones from which she or he can draw strength and encouragement. The core of Classics, English and Religious Studies act as a gateway for entry into the most wonderful array of language, literature, culture and human experience. Attention to grammatical detail combined with a breadth and depth of understanding of the world within which the language and thought-forms operate will smooth the path of each student. To act as a gatekeeper and guide on the way is a pleasure which, though sometimes hard-going, is always worth attaining.

On a more personal level, I enjoy spending time with students of whatever age, getting to know how they learn best and how I can serve them in their education. I have taught ten year olds, teenagers and undergraduates and can confidently say that all students will have some similar challenges to face and strengths to deploy; but all students will also have their own particular obstacles and ways of overcoming them. Understanding these elements of a person's character and educational DNA, working with them and setting them meaningfully within the context of other curricular and extra-curricular activities is one of the most exciting and important ventures we can undertake.

About Helena:
I am both a professional youth worker and teacher with a broad portfolio of experience. Recently I 've been involved in amateur drama... have done summer theatre for two years now! I have a grown up family and whilst they have left home their cats and dogs have stayed... . my other interests lie in gardening and reading.

Teaching Experience:
Further and higher education : 10 years teaching Social Science subjects : media studies, sociology , research methods,health and social care. University teaching of specialist modules within disciplines of social anthropology and youth work. with University College Cork and university of Ulster. Gained Postgraduate diploma in F.H.Ed (with Commendation (U.U. 1997)
Second Level schools: 8 years taking sociology , maths , english, religious studies and health and social care. Have held qualified teacher status since june 2000. Experience of parstoral care within school both as a teacher and as a professional youth worker in school.

Tutoring Approach:
For me Tutoring is about helping a person find what they need to learn and support them via a process of quantitative and qualitative markers. Tutoring is not just about a knowledge base , its about gaining confidence , skills and understanding. what we can achieve together depends on where we start from and makes us both committed to sucessful outcomes.
I recognise that people have different styles of learning and that can sometimes mean that there are blocks to learning. I can provide quality subject tutoring that will enable you to learn.

About Patricia:
I'm a mature lady with a warm and friendly manner, lots of enthusiasm and plenty of experience in teaching languages.

Teaching Experience:
I've been teaching languages at all levels, from 11 years old to adult, for about 25 years. Most of the time I've worked in schools, including private, and further education.

Tutoring Approach:
I think all lessons should be enjoyable, and each one should stretch you a little bit further. In my lessons we try to speak the language as much as possible, and we also practice reading, writing, listening and speaking in every session. On request I can give you homework or tutor you for exams.

Supervising Structural Engineering subject to first year architectural students for Architectural Department, University of Cambridge

Worked as Asst. Lecturer at Structural division, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
