About Jane:
I recently graduated from the University of Nottingham with a Masters level degree in human nutrition and dietetics. Before completing my degree I studied for A levels in Biology, Chemistry, Geography and Home Economics (Food Science). I therefore feel I would be competent to tutor students in the above subjects.
In September I started a PhD in human nutrition and hope one day to become a university lecturer.

Teaching Experience:

I have gained experience in many areas of teaching/tutoring. I have successfully tutored many students through their GCSEs and A-levels, helping them to achieve the grades they needed to go to university, or pursue their intended career. I have a vast resource of teaching aids and past exam papers, which can be used to help the student gain their highest possible marks..

Tutoring Approach:

I am able to break down large chunks of information into smaller, understandable parts. Through the tutoring experience I have gained I understand that the same approach to teaching will not apply to every student and I am able to adapt my teaching style to each student. Through my own university experience I have found that sticking closely to the syllabus often yields excellent results in examinations.

As I have recently finished my degree I feel I am ideally placed to understand the modern educational process and empathise with any prospective students. I am happy to tutor from my home or travel to you.

Due to my job as a dietitian I have a full CRB check of which I would be more than happy to provide a copy of.

About Viara:
Hey my name is Viara
I`m a dedicated musician, a singer, I play guitar and bass
I`m studying Popular music right now.
I gig regularly doing both covers and originals.
One of the things I want to explore musicwise is teaching, especially theory as my experience so far shows that both working musicians and people stidying music have this idea about theory being complex and hard to get
Theory is fun and I`d like to prove it :)
So whether you are an working musician wanting to `top` up their skills or someone who`s just set out on their music path I`d like to help you
I`ve been in rock bands since I was 18 and I`ve gone through a lot of misery and hard work because I was hardheaded and too proud to ask for help:)
There were times when I felt like I was rediscovering the wheel every day (eg. trying to get my head around the circle of fifths :)
So if you recognise you need help - I`m your girl
I can teach at your own home, over Skype, in a cafe, a studio ... wherever you feel you`d be able to cencentrate :)

I charge half of what average music tutors do...not because I`m not knowledgeable enough
I simply want to make theory affordable to more people

See you soon :)
Viara

Teaching Experience:

I have never been employed as a teacher however I`m constantly helping my peers out at college so Im quite familiar with both music theory and the bits a music student might find hard

Tutoring Approach:

very friendly and practical. You tell me what your reason for wanting to study music theory is and I`ll tell you what you need to focus on.

About Joseph:
I am a fully qualified and experienced maths teacher. As such I know the ins and outs of CE, Scholarship, GCSE, IGCSE and A-Level courses and can help, whether the intention is simply improving standards throughout a course or making a final push for an exam.

Teaching Experience:

PGCE Cambridge - 1 Year
2 Years Maths Teacher - Eastbourne College

Tutoring Approach:

The best thing about working one-to-one is tailoring your approach to suit a student. Like any subject maths ultimately requires hard work and focus but for those of us that find this difficult to achieve (often those who might need tutoring!) a varied diet of topics and challenges would be my preferred approach.

At the start of the tutoring, I will assess each student for their learning style (as everybody learns in different ways) and ammend the course accordingly. I left my full time teaching job 2 years ago and at present I do supply teaching inschools/colleges and continue with private tuition. I have been a private tutor for over 17 years and I am very successful to assist my pupils to achieve their intended grades(GCSE maths, AS Level Maths/ICT), pass entry exams to independents schools, pass SATS, complete thie coursework with high grades and etc.
In my spare time I work for a couple of charities, travel and try cookery recepies.

Teaching Experience:

Resume editing
I am a graduate of maths and computing with several years of working as a Statistician for a retailing company & over 25 years of teaching in Further education & sixth form colleges. During this period I taught from pre GCSE maths to A level maths (maths & statistics). I am also a very experienced ICT teacher teaching GCSE, ALVEL ICT & Computing, GNVQ Intermediate & GNVQ Advanced in ICT and also BTEC National in ICT.

Tutoring Approach:

I normally contact the pupil/pupil's parents to introduce myself and the agency, If they agree with tuition my agreement is to give 1 lesson during which I test the pupil's knowledge on a range of SIMPLE & BASIC maths concepts and give feedback to the parents. This method has worked very well either way. As part of tuition I make sure my pupils gain confidence & knowledge gently but surely. Generally after some lessons pupils show visible confidence & knowledge that are very satisfying for everyone concerned.
Homework is a MUST no matter sometimes, due to school work, is just a few exercises.
Also every so often pupils have tests on selected topics.

About Oliver:
I am a really friendly, reliable and easygoing tutor. Languages are both my passion and my talent - and I teach both reluctant, unconvinced learners of foreign languages as well as the determined and motivated linguists amongst us.

My French and German skills are first-rate: whatever the level, from absolute beginners to undergraduate finalists I am happy teaching grammar, conversation, written language, translation and comprehension- either for a curriculum or for pleasure. I can also support those who wish to learn a language for business or professional reasons

Teaching Experience:

Extensive experience teaching to various learners in various settings:
- in German schools: teaching English and French
- adults: teaching conversational French and German; German for business
- GCSE/GCE: tutoring in French, German and English as a foreign language

I'm experienced teaching all levels, including absolute beginners and those wishing to 'refresh'.

Tutoring Approach:

I always emphasise a firm grasp of grammar (specifically verbs) as the essential foundation for learning a language successfully. But there's no need to go overboard - it's all about balance. So whatever text or topic we're looking at, we'll make sure we're comfortable with the building blocks of the language, and then enjoy learning useful and stylish language. Some of this just requires learning - but it really doesn't have to be tedious or burdensome. Just enough depending on what you want to use your language for.

My style is relaxed and informal - I want to enjoy teaching, so it's important that you enjoy learning with me. I'll try to always introduce you to interesting words and phrases and explain Grammar and syntactical structures as plainly as possible.

I'll spend quite a lot of time polishing up your accent, too. You'll enjoy using the language more, and be more confident, if you have a bit of verve and gusto when it comes to pronunciation.

About Philipp:
I am a young student attending a University in Bristol. I have lived in France, Germany and the Uk. I grew up being trilingual and am keen on passing on my experiences with the languages.

Teaching Experience:

Over the past 5 years I have taught English, German and French to people of all ages and all levels on a regular basis. I regularily check with education standards regarding grammar and spelling, always keeping myself and my pupils on the latest stand.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a relaxed and easy-going person. This reflects on my style of teaching. I like to give my pupils a chance to do it by themselves after sufficient training (using text books, the internet and exercises) - most of the time they get it right without my help.
However, I do my best to adapt to every pupil individually making sure they get exactly the help they need.

About Victoria:
I am a qualified and practising Teacher of English in a North Yorkshire secondary school. I would like to think that I am personable and friendly whilst striving for each student to do their very best at both Key Stage 3 and GCSE.

Teaching Experience:

I am in my third year of teaching at secondary level and therefore experienced in teaching English at both Key Stage 3 and GCSE. I am also a practising personal tutor and have successfully guided students of varying ability and special needs through their GCSEs on a one-to-one basis. In addition, I regularly teach at intensive GCSE revision courses in the Easter holidays, so I am familiar with most exam boards: AQA; OCR; Edexcel and the Welsh Board.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to take a fairly informal approach in tutorial sessions. Students, however, will have important homework set in the form of re-drafting coursework pieces or timed essays. It is crucial that students are willing to put in the effort and commitment in their spare time in order to achieve the best results. Wherever possible, I will contact the student's English teacher to check on coursework progress and any mock results so far. We will then work, together, on the key areas for improvement.

About James:
I'm 23 and a recent science graduate. I have experience working with children in a variety of settings, such as primary, secondary and within a dance school. I am hoping to carry out my secondary science PGCE in 2007. I have an up-beat character, and like to think of myself as motivational to the students I work with.

Teaching Experience:

I currently work as a learning support assistant in a high school and have a good knowledge in a wide range of subject areas, specialising in biology, chemistry and maths. I feel confident tutoring science and maths at KS3/4 level, and with my current position I have essential up-to-date training on the current curriculum. I have strong ICT, literacy and numeracy skills and would feel confident tutoring these to KS3 level.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly and professional approach to teaching, I like to make science interesting and use fun techniques to engage my students. I believe that visual aids are a good tool when students find a particular topic difficult, this approach often helps them remember things better and enhances learning.
