Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Silvère: I am in Oxford to share my knowledge of French and spanish culture, civilisation, literature and above all language. I am a french native speaker. I studied spanish literature and civilisation at the university of Corsica and also one year at the university of Seville. I graduated with honours in 2007 and last year I made a master degree in Spanish literature. This is my "year off" to discover England. I am looking forward to be teacher whern I will come back in my country. I love Spanish and French language and I love to teach. |
Teaching Experience: I gave lots of private lessons during my studies (aproximately 6 years) in Spanish. I also helped many children to do their homeworks. I helped people to improve their spoken French and Spanish I was also hired last year by a company which recruits teacher to give private lessons to children and adults |
Tutoring Approach: The first meeting is necesary for me to view your real level in order to focus on my future work and to prepare my lessons and exercises. The first meeting also allows you to view how I want to work. If you want to practise and improve your grammar, we have to work, to do exercises and also to read documents, book's extracts... The grammar is quiet important. You have to know grammar rules ti improve. If you want to practise your spoken French or Spanish, we won't speak in English at all during the lesson. I will make you discover advertisements, songs... to know how this language works. |

View Mark's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Mark: I am 33 years old and a Qualified Primary Teacher. I currently run my own business (SportStart) providing sports coaching for after-school clubs in primary schools across Surrey. I also provide PPA cover in schools during term-time, run school holiday sports academies and deliver exciting children's birthday parties! Although I am very keen on sport, my real passion is working with children, which led me to becoming a primary teacher. Whilst I have great fun teaching sport to children, I do miss the day-to-day teaching in the classroom environment, where life is never dull! |
Teaching Experience: I hold a Primary PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) which enables me to teach children in the 4-11 age range. I spent 2 years teaching at Brookwood Primary School in Brookwood, Surrey, with Year 5 and Year 6 children. I subsequently set up my sports coaching business however during that period I continued to teach, covering PPA time at Windlesham Village Infant School, Windlesham, Surrey, where I taught children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. I currently teach Year 2 children at the Mead Infant School in Ewell, Surrey, where I am employed to cover PPA time as a sports coach. |
Tutoring Approach: I take great pride and satisfaction from helping a child to achieve their full potential. Being able to develop a child's confidence, knowledge and skills is such a rewarding experience - this is what attracted me to teaching! I believe that I am friendly and relaxed but always professional in everything I do. I like to be innovative and find interesting and stimulating ways of helping children to learn and express themselves. With Maths tuition in particular I try to combine practical, often sports-related activities with the teaching of methods to engage a child's attention and focus them on a specific area of learning. I am also fairly flexible in the hours I can work and will go that extra bit further than your 'average' tutor! |

I am originally from England and have lived in Belfast for three and a half years now. I have had various pieces published in magazines and books as a creative writer; this is one of my major passions. In my spare time I enjoy creative writing, reading, socialising, travelling, music, football, and all the other things that 27 year olds like to do. I consider myself to be a fairly outgoing, friendly, genial person. |
Teaching Experience: 2005-2008, QUB: 'Victorianism to Modernism', 2nd year undergraduate module in literature. 2007, School of Lifelong Learning, QUB: '20th Century British and Irish Poetry for Beginners', a self-devised course for all entry-levels. 2008, QUB: 'Sounds of the City', 1st year undergraduate module in literature. |
Tutoring Approach: I am very enthusiastic about the discipline of English Literature. I believe Literature should be taught and practised rigorously to achieve the optimal results, but I believe in creating a genial, friendly atmosphere of learning in order to best engender an enthusiasm which matches mine. As a tutor of undergraduates at Queen's, I enjoy discussion and debate, and one of the biggest pay-offs in this role in helping students gain a perspective on a text they did not previously have, as well as helping them to improve as readers, as scholars, and as thinkers. |

View Amanda's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Amanda: I am a Fine Art Graduate and practising artist living in Redland, Bristol willing to offer support, advice and tutoring to GCSE and A-Level ar students, whether it be preparing for the art exam or wanting some extra help with the big workload which is coursework. I remember very well being overwhelmed by the amount of sketchbooks, critical appraisals and time which had to go into my coursework at school and making every bit count for those extra marks. After being through the mill with A-levels, a foundation course in art & design and a degree in fine art I will be able to offer some advice and help whether it be with practical techniques such as drawing or with critical analysis to try and help you figure out which direction your work is going. |
Teaching Experience: I have previously been a mentor to secondary level students (year 7) who had just started school, offering them support and a sympathetic ear within the school environment. This role was during my time at school and one which helped the students to intergrate into their new surroundings and voice any problems they had to someone other than a teacher. I run my own part-time jewellery design business which has been established for over a year. |
Tutoring Approach: My main practice is heavily focused on drawing and I use methods such as printmaking and textiles to create my work. I have a strong background in drawing, particuarly life drawing, which I still enjoy doing. I am also happy to discuss work and offer practical criticism as well as dealing with contentual issues relating to art work based on art theory and history. I have a current and up to date knowledge of the current art scene and reguarly take visits around the UK to keep myself in the loop. |

View Thomas's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Thomas: I am an expert in the delivery of training and education. I derive immense satisfaction from seeing my efforts impact positively upon the outlook and understanding of the students it is my responsibility to teach. I have wide experience of the management and enabling of the education function. However, it is the experience of personal contact with the student and the interaction between student and teacher that I enjoy and value most. I have an honours degree (Upper Second) in Mathematics |
Teaching Experience: I am about to enter a Graduate Training Programme to achieve QTS but I have had over 20 years experience teaching and instructing in the Army. I have taught an adult education class to GCSE (Intermediate) level in Mathematics. I have just completed a 3 week placement with a technology college and was involved in the delivery of mathematics education at GCSE, AS and A2 levels. |
Tutoring Approach: I have always believed that those involved in teaching should want to enjoy the company of children and young people. Moreover they should want to be inspired by their youthful outlook and their desire to learn. To achieve this requires teachers to do much more than to drill their pupils to attain levels of achievement. It is important that the tutees understand the subject they are learning they need to know why things are the way they are not just how to answer exam questions. Much of the time spent with a tutee would be given over to ensuring that the topic they are currently working on is set in the correct context of what they have done previously what they will be studying next. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Caezar: Hi! I'm a hard working Phd Student and have always worked hard during my life. I am currently working on a Phd at Birmingham university specialising in Structural Biology. I have a Bsc in Pharmacology from Cardiff university and have 2A's (Chemistry and Psychology) and a B (Biology) at A-level with a B (Physics) at AS level. I have 1A* (Chemistry) 8A's (Maths, Physics, Biology, English Language, Geography, History, Business Studies, German) and 1 B (English Literature) at GCSE. As well as studying Pharmacology at University, I have worked part time during term time and full time during the summer, for three years, at Phones 4 U. This gave me a great understanding in how to interact with people (especially teenagers) so that we could clearly understand each other. I have a fun loving towards life with a never give up attitude! |
Teaching Experience: During my 6th form years I was head of my school house which meant organising with the younger years their inter-house sporting events as well as encourage them on the field. It taught me to really understand their viewpoints so you could ultimately help them achieve their goals. While I was undertaking my Bsc at Cardiff university I mentored younger years with their essays in their style and approach and was always happy to help via emails. Now undertaking my Phd at Birmingham University, I am often asked to demonstrate and help answer questions during Lab time with BSc Biochemistry students. |
Tutoring Approach: I begin with understanding where the pupil is having his/her basic problem i.e. is it a matter of confidence in the topic or difficulty in understanding the overall understanding of the topic. Once these are gauged I like to start off gently as I found myself to learn much more easily when things are broken down into their very basic concepts. As the sessions progress I am very happy to give homework (with the amount initially discussed between the parents, pupil and I so that not to interfere with school work) so that the progress of the pupil is monitored. Overall I like to think I am very approachable and want the pupil to ask as many questions as possible as I believe that a pupil that asks questions will be the ones that will get their desired results. ***Free first tuition*** (with the purchase of an additional 5 Bulk teaching sessions) ***Discounts available upon bulk requests*** |
