About kathleen:
Married with 4 children ranging from 13 to 23 years of age. Am self-employed offering Spanish/French to children aged 3 to 11 within school time covering PPA. Have lived in Spain with families in my university days and studied at Madrid University for 6 months living in Madrid. This enabled me to travel exensively throughout mainland Spain. Always take holidays in Spanish speaking countries in order to maintain my fluency. I love to visit places abroad, enjoy good food and good wines, listen to a variety of music, enjoy live theatre. We are an extremely close, loving family unit with good friends.

Teaching Experience:

My whole career has been within education which commenced 1980 to the present date. I have worked for the LEA in 3 different schools all within the Primary/Junior range and decided this academic year to concentrate solely on MFL and become self-employed. After 28 years of teaching experience for the LEA this is an exciting period which already has enabled me to offer Spanish/French to local nurseries, Primary/Junior schools and adult tuition in the evening. As of September 1st 2008 I have a full time-table for school days plus more flexibility.

Tutoring Approach:

I love interacting with people of all ages and want my students to enjoy the learning. I make the teaching sessions fun yet interesting and have a wide range of resources plus inter-active white board sites.

About Mark:
I'm a fully qualified English teacher now working as a professional tutor in the Lancaster and Morecambe area. That means you get tailored lessons designed specifically for one-to-one tuition, rather than adapted school lessons. I believe that good tuition should do all the things school cannot do, my approach is about building lifelong skills rather than "catching up" on content. One hour per week for a few weeks is usually all it takes to put most students back on track. After that, your ambition is the only limit!

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in schools around Lancashire, Cumbria and West Yorkshire but now work exclusively as a private tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

It isn't about just being better, it's about being different too - private tuition offers opportunities to learn in ways that even private schools are unable to offer.
All resources are provided free of charge, including use of an extensive library of workbooks and study guides. I am an expert at exam preparation and have a five year back catalogue of exam papers and mark schemes from all major exam boards. As I also mark GCSE English papers for Edexcel, this is another perspective I can offer students.
Qualifications:
English Education degree (2.1).
Qualified Teacher Status and enhanced CRB clearance.
Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
A-levels in English, Mathematics, Politics, and General Studies.
I am also currently working towards a Masters Degree in Educational Research at Lancaster University.

Extra services:
English at KS3, GCSE, A-level, degree, foreign language.
Other subjects: Maths at KS3 and GCSE.
Proofreading of coursework/essays.
Learn with a friend from just 12, cut the cost and increase the fun!
Excluded from school? Not a problem! I can even enter you for GCSE exams personally.
Illness/injury keeping you away from school? I can come to you, and even help in a range of subjects.
"Crash course" and trouble-shooting exam preparation if you've left it to the last minute; make sure you don't throw away those easy marks!
Tuition can be provided in a converted room at my house in Lancaster, or I can come to you at no extra cost.

About Kelly:
I am a practicing writer and home tutor. I am also studying towards a QTS in secondary English. I received a first class honours degree in Creative and Media writing. When I am not teaching I am either taking care of my two children or writing. I take writing very seriously and write for a few websites, as well as performing poetry on the local circuit. I am also in the process of writing a novel and television sketch show. I run my own website and and blog for my writing and feel that I have a lot to offer teaching English, as I am very passionate and knowledgeable about my subject.

Teaching Experience:

I have coached many children successfully through their English exams, all with great results. In addition I have also tutored children and adults in reading and writing skills. I also tutor teenagers and adults in creative writing. References can be provided.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a creative approach to my pupils. I find that pupils are often taught in the wrong way and as we know everybody learns differently. As a tutor I try to find the learning needs of all my pupils resulting in the pupil finding interest and sense from a subject that may have been previously frustrating to them. I am professional, but approachable with a good sense of hunour which I like to utilise during lessons. I can travel to you or you to me and I am also fine with online and telephone tutoring - although I tend to feel a one-on-one meeting works better for both pupil and teacher.

About Wendy:
I am used to teaching students of all ages. I have a first degree in History and English and a masters in Art History. I have been teaching successfully in London for the past 14 years and can honestly say that I have never had a student fail, whether it be for an entrance exam or GCSE, 'A' level or even at University helping with a final dissertation. I enjoy tutoring on a one to one basis and am passionate about my chosen subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at further education colleges in and around London as well as private schools mainly in English and History for G.C.S.E. and 'A' Level students. I am also an Associate Lecturer for the Open University in the Humanities. My main strengths are in private tutoring in which I have been engaged for the past 14 years around London and more recently in Norfolk.

Tutoring Approach:

In the case of coursework for GCSE or 'A' level I am happy to have students email their work for me to check over and then have a lesson in person. With regard to working towards examinations, I prefer to use the question papers as the basis for learning as generally each exam board has a preference for the way in which questions are answered especially in the subjects I teach. English and History especially are open to interpretation I believe the need to read around the subject and offer a wider knowledge than is generally taught at schools or colleges is vital. Regular tuition is therefore preferable, so that all problems can be addressed.

About Juliet:
university student - bilingual French/English - childhood from age 7 in France - extensive experience babysitting and tutoring (throughout highschool)

Teaching Experience:

2006 : language au pair in Livorno, Italy
2006 - 2008 : French tutoring for GCSE students

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the best way to acquire true fluency in a language is to immerse oneself in it, cultivating an awareness of its cultural and literary overtones. I therefore encourage relaxed, informal conversation revolving around the tutees' particular interests, so that they may gain confidence expressing themselves in a way that is engaging for them. I tend to take this "immersion" approach from the beginning, but I am conscious of each client's individual wishes, and can also incorporate more conventional lessons in grammar and sentence-structure, should the ultimate aim be fluency in business or professional French. I truly enjoy teaching, and consider each lesson an opportunity to assist each student in their inspiring discovery of a new way of communicating.

About Clemence:
I am a recent graduate of English Literature and French so I have just been through the education system and I know the formula for success at each level. I did very well at A-Levels (AAB) and GCSE's with five A*s.

I still love English literature and French and I feel I would communicate my enthusiasm well. I would try and get each student to love the subject and then their performance would rise accordingly. I appreciate the need to work consistently to achieve results and I would monitor student progress closely. That said, education is intellectual development and there needs to be a certain license in the progress, within the realms of achieving the next goal in the education system. I believe there can be a happy compromise between the two; working to set targets whilst allowing a love of learning to flourish.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English as a foreign language in Tanzania at two schools. In one class of over thirty
pupils, the ages ranged from 5-9 years old. In the other secondary school, I taught 16-19 year olds.
The two classes required very different teaching techniques, and I had to adapt, whilst following the lesson plan and set targets, to communicate with the students effectively.

Tutoring Approach:

In order to maximize a student's potential, I would begin with a very detailed evaluation of their current status, what they need to achieve (in terms of catching up, or preparing for exams) and then build a comprehensive route over a sustained period of how we would get there. My focus would be very much on the student as an individual and I would try and create the optimum teaching method for each person. Ideally, I would like to meet with the student at least once a week to keep the information fresh.
The teaching would involve as much interactive learning tools as appropriate to the student's age and abilities. For a French GCSE student , for example, I would help them not only with the core material set out for the examination but also try and inspire an understanding and enjoyment for the language through books, films, and other media.
I want to challenge, excite and inspire students because I believe that academic work can be extremely enjoyable when you see your hard work paying off.

About Peter:
Hi!
I am Peter from Germany and I am in England as a Foreign Language Assistant since September 2008. I am 27 years old and I like it very much to work with children and young adults. I did a first degree in technical engineering and worked for a year in this job. Then I decided to go back to university to study to become a teacher of English and Economics.
I am in England to broaden my teaching experience. As I tutor I could make some additional experiences. That's why I would like to do some tutoring beside my job as a Foreign Language Assistant.

Teaching Experience:

I have got some teaching experience from Germany because I have done some tutoring during my school time and later on during my studies at university.
I have been a swim teacher for quite a while so I am confident with children in no-classroom situations too.
At the moment I work as a Foreign Language Assistant and can explore the possibilities of alternative teaching approaches in small groups and with children of all age groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I think the most important thing is to generate interest and motivation in the student. I believe that's true in particular for language learning. That's why I try to make my lesson as lively as possible. Furthermore in my opinion speaking is central to really getting the grip on a language. That's why I think it is important to incorporate as much speaking as possible in the lesson.
