I am a freelance language tutor who teaches Turkish and English as a Foreign Language. I also do translation and interpretation from time to time. I am a native Turkish speaker and have a dual citizenship (UK and Turkish) and have been living in Cambridge for 18 years.

Teaching Experience:
I currently work in one of the colleges in Cambridge as a Turkish Adult Education Tutor and also run small private Turkish classes from home. My students are all very happy with my teaching style. I also give private one to one English language lessons. After graduating from Anglia University this year I worked for a language school in Cambridge during the summer teaching IELTS exam preparation to a group of international students.

I adjust my teaching for student's individual needs and make learning a fun experience. As I have been teaching for more than 15 years I have a lot of materials to make the lessons interesting and I make sure that students benefit fully from my teaching.

I am a mature Scottish Chartered Teacher who qualified initially in 1994. I received the Chartered Teacher from the general teaching council for Scotland in 2010. I have experience of tutoring students from 2006 and I am very enthusiastic in my work. I do not watch the clock and will prepare lessons to meet the needs of the student. I gained a M.A.Ed.(Special Needs) in 2005 and have found it invaluable in identifying and overcoming barriers to learning.Presently I have a wide range of students including those with Dyslexia and Aspergers. After completing my D.Phil from the University of Oxford, I worked for 7 years as a Senior Biologist for a small drug discovery company where I was responsible for screening new drug targets in tissue models for human disease. Over the years I've had so many comments from students/colleagues about my ability to break subjects down to ease understanding, and coupled with my passion for science and sharing that with others I decided to change career and become a full-time science tutor. I've never looked back!

I am also a freelance examiner for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) - examining is invaluable to my role as a science tutor and to the development of my students' abilities in preparation for their examinations. It has taught me to understand the very specific focus of each syllabus as a whole, to read for the specific aim of relevant text, and to concentrate not just on surface comprehension but to expand science beyond basic skills.

I have many hobbies but particularly enjoy outdoor pursuits including: sailing, mountaineering, climbing, mountain biking and running. Most of my free time though is spent with my wonderful husband and beautiful tots!

During my time researching at Oxford, I tutored an array of students in Biochemistry, Biology, Genetics, Human Science and Medicine.

Tutoring Approach:
I usually start with the current topics that student is studying in the school and explain to the student that topic and related background knowledge. As I teach one to one, my pace is faster than school and we usually finish the topic in one or sometimes two classes. And then we do previous topics and I explain doubts on those topics. I usually do not teach students that they already know, instead, start topic wise past papers of the topics students feel he or she knows well.

I explain to students how to write the answer to the questions asked,... not what they know... in a very concise and complete manner and relate the answers to the mark schemes of the past papers... and there is a lot of similar things that I explain...
