| About Charlotte: I am a recent graduate of Cambridge University, where I gained a 2:1 degree in History. I am now studying for a degree in Medicine so am able to cover both arts and science subjects. I am also able to advise on preparation for Oxbridge interviews (having had six myself!) and writing Personal Statements for UCAS forms. |
Teaching Experience: I have been mentoring younger students since sixth form, during which time I also assisted in teaching classes up to GCSE level. I have since spent time working on summer school programmes for international students and working as a private tutor at various levels. I cover a range of subjects and have a specialist interest in essay-writing. |
Tutoring Approach: Experience tells me that one of the main barriers students face is a lack of confidence, often leading to frustration and disinterest. My aim is to break down difficult material into smaller, easier chunks so that students can work out the answers for themselves, which helps to build confidence and gives a sense of satisfaction. I use a variety of teaching methods, from verbal explanations to diagrams, charts and even models, depending on what suits the individual. I try to make teaching light-hearted and want to inspire interest and enthusiasm in students. |

| About Sheree: My ambition in life has always been to teach and assist children. From a young age, I have always desired helping people achieve their goals. This desire has always stayed with me and I believe it is the driving force in ensuring that I remain a reflective practitioner and which enables me to find ways to raise achievement in others, especially children. I am a dedicated, reliable and hardworking practitioner, with excellent communication and organisation skills. My aim is to assist students to become effective learners. I am committed to facilitating each child's social and intellectual growth by creating an atmosphere of mutual respect and open communication. I enjoy travelling abroad, and have visited several European countries including Portugal and Germany. I have also travelled to India, The Caribbean, Mexico, Canada and USA. My personal interests include Music and Writing short stories and novels. My leisure activities include the Theatre Arts, reading and painting. I enjoy socialising and meeting new people. I am very down to earth and very enthusiastic about my work. I have a cheerful and lively nature and enjoy an active life. |
Teaching Experience: My experience to date, has involved teaching mixed ability classes at key stages 1 and 5, in mixed inner-city primary schools and comprehensives; more recently working on a one to one basis and in a larger group setting with children with medical needs, SEBD and children with SEN at key stages 1-5. I have supported pupils with emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties, both on an individual and classroom basis, which has given me the opportunity to recognize the needs of SEN students. My most recent position as a teacher in a tuition centre, has enabled me to work on a one-to-one basis, whereby creating individualised learning programmes from IEPs for each child. The opportunity of being both a classroom practitioner and private tutor has enabled me to create differentiated resources and learning material for students with different learning abilities ranging from high attaining to EAL and SEN students. I have also been dedicated to developing a program to assess students of various abilities including those requiring additional assistance. Through the monitoring of students and their attainment, I have been able to pin-point under achievement and set specific targets in each case. In my assessment of students, I use various methods in order to cater for different learning styles which is paramount to raising achievement as well as confidence in students. |
Tutoring Approach: My desire and passion is for students to achieve their dreams whether that is getting an A* in an English exam or learning how to read and write. I believe that a teacher, who sincerely cares, is able to work with all kinds of students in a challenging way and bring change into their lives. If a teacher can understand basic human nature and the needs of students at different stages in their lives, they are able to recognise weaknesses and strengths, promise and potential. Therefore giving students the space to grow and achieve. From my experience, effective teachers have to be good communicators and listeners, patient but firm with the ability to laugh at oneself. Children learn by example, therefore a good and effective teacher is one who can be a positive influence in the lives of their students. Learning takes place best, in a caring atmosphere and is where students thrive. I have made these principles an active part of my teaching life and believe that they have played a positive part in the progress of my students both past and present. |

| About Vijay: "How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?" - Arthur Conan Doyle, Sir - The Sign of Four Which words catch your attention the most in the above quote? - Words "Impossible" and "Improbable" of course. These two words are by far the most strongest ever words that rule the world of possibilities and probabilities. Our day to day life revolves around these words, yet we stay quite unaware of them. We are pursuing the "Truth" behind every material, immaterial entity that we come across. Even I'm a crusader in voyage of conquering the unknown. Well I had this knack of revealing the unveiled face since infancy. Though I believe Impossible and Improbable lures around, but my fight with them prevails. Every time I face such a situation, I find myself to win it out. Might be 'cause I know what the result will be. Might sound optimistic, but that's how I'm. I graduated in Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering (1998), also did MBA from Middlesex University (2005) . I have worked in Investment Banks as Business Manager, Project Manager, IT developer & Business Analyst. |
Teaching Experience: Since childhood I always liked Maths, Science and IT subjects. All modern advancements (computers, mobiles, wireless, internet, digital TV, emails) are gifts from these subjects. I always wanted to be in touch with the concepts. The only way I could find was to teach 11-16year old friends. I have taught GCSE level, A level students. They have achieved good scores in their results. I get personal achievement through their achievements. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe everyone is different (just like the fingers in your hand). I also believe in structure. Hence I prefer to adapt a study structure as per the individuals needs. At the same time I don't stick to routine, I prefer to work out what suits best with the individual. To me Learning shouldn't be a chore, one should enjoy learning. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Relita: Since I'm also a secondary teacher I know the needs of the students and exactly what is expected of them in the exams. I believe because I'm still young I have the ability to connect with the students on a more personal level and gain their trust. I'm an easy going person and have tons of patience. I am friendly but also believe in hard work to succeed. |
Teaching Experience: I have practical teaching experience in South Africa and have been teaching in the U.k now for 2 years - at Birnamwood and New Tunmarsh centre and also supply work all over london. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe tutoring is the extra help a student needs to either move up a level or grade or to pass. A tutor shouldn't be seen as a teacher or tutoring as school but rather the tutor and student working together to improve the student's grades. I'm there to clarify some grey concepts to the students and also help the students with concepts they struggle with and explain what they do not understand. I believe in "pratise makes perfect" and this is also my approach to tutoring. |

| About Dulmini: I am a 2:1 graduate with a good grounding in both the arts and sciences, as I studied English, German, Maths and Physics at A-level, before going to the Kent Institute of Art & Design (now known as the University College for the Creative Arts) to study Architecture. I also work as a Sinhalese interpreter, video camerawoman, photographer, and meditation group leader. I'm also an amateur singer-songwriter and play guitar. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored children preparing for their 11+ exam, and currently teach adults the basics of Buddhism and how to meditate. |
Tutoring Approach: I'm friendly and encouraging in my approach, and am good at helping students understand concepts by using examples, illustrations and provoking discussion. Several adults who I teach Buddhism and meditation to are foreign nationals with poor english; so I communicate clearly, using stories and anecdotes, with lots of eye contact, facial expressions and hand gestures to get my message across. |

| About Alex: I'm 28 years old. Lived in Russia for several years. I've travelled extensively and take an interest in a variety of subjects. I'm friendly, patient, and easy to get along with. |

In general, I am methodical, patient, and friendly. |

| About Elizabeth: I have just completed my degree at Durham University, where I have spent the last 4 years reading French, History and Sociology. My interests lie mainly in the Middle Ages and Early Modern periods of history, but I am also an avid Modern European historian, and having studied it throughout my whole academic career thus far I am up to date with current school curriculum etc. Languages have always been a passion of mine. I spent much time in France during my youth, including a one year exchange to a boarding school in St. Omer. Whilst the final year of my degree has included little French I have highly proficient oral and aural French. I am a friendly, honest, and caring individual, who enjoys many of the same hobbies as my peers, however I do boast good communication skills, and being the eldest of four children has taught me much about communicating what are sometimes difficult ideas and concepts to people who perhaps don't have as good a grasp on them as I do. I am approachable and warm, and also highly dedicated and focussed. I truly am passionate about what I know, and always striving to find better ways to pass this knowledge on. |
Teaching Experience: In October 2003 I attended and completed a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course in Bristol. Whilst this course did not involve any hands-on teaching, it taught several different interesting and varied methods of teaching and was illuminating in that it gave me a few new ideas about planning and efficiency. Due to university commitments I never followed this course up, however the insight it gave me was invaluable. At school I was appointed a house prefect in the Lower Sixth and Head of School (and Head of House) in the Upper Sixth. Whilst obviously this did not mean I became a teacher, both myself and my opposite Head Boy became by default fairly heavily involved in the roles of the gap students, which sometimes involved covering classes of up to 20 children for anything between 30 minutes and 2 hours. I have also recently been invited back on two occasions to teach some Medieval History to a group of 11 year olds, once in the ICT centre, once in a more traditional classroom setting. Whilst I found these experiences challenging to a degree, I relished them and truly enjoyed the bubbly, buoyant nature of the children. |
Tutoring Approach: I am extremely dedicated and believe firmly in efficient preparation. Essentially what this means is I am always prepared, and the work I do is largely individual. What this means is no universal lesson plans. Every person that needs a tutor has hugely different wants and needs, and probably a good idea of what they are from the very beginning. My approach seeks to integrate those individual wants and needs, and also to acknowledge the individual strengths and weaknesses, and incorporate those into any tutoring. Effectively I am not averse to any teaching method at all. I myself was at times a particularly difficult person to teach, and I benefitted greatly from a hands-on personalised touch at school, as it allowed me to really explore areas I otherwise might not have been able to. |

| About Maiko: I am a second year Psychology student at the University of York. I am an open-minded, patient and highly motivated person with some experiences in tutoring. I am Japanese, so my native language is Japanese, but I am also fluent in English. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught English (as a foreign language), Mathes and Japanese before. I also helped some students get accustomed to entrance exam situations. People whom I taught these subjects varied from six years old to 65 years old. |
Tutoring Approach: I always try to keep in mind how I learned what I am teaching and what I struggled with when I studied what I am teaching. Looking through students' eyes often helps me understand better ways to teach and also makes the sessions more enjoyable. I would like the students to not only study and memorise facts but actually learn for themselves. So I will try to make sure that I explain things properly until the student understand. I may take different approach depending on the student's character, motivation and understanding. |

| About Ian: I am originally from Northern Ireland and have studied French and Spanish at university. I have also spent a year in Dijon and in Madrid, teaching English to French and Spanish students respectively. I am married and am 27 years old. |

| About Sue: I like learning and am always keen to learn new things. Recently I started a 'Scrapbooking Club' and run scrapbooking workshops. Maths has been a favourite subject of mine since I was a school. I am a mother of grown up children. |
Teaching Experience: I have been a school teacher for 15 years and tutored students up to GCSE in Maths. I am a Graduate in Education. |
Tutoring Approach: I Love Maths! I believe passionately that children can learn to like Maths and do well at it. If you get the fundamental building blocks in place then the rest comes naturally. I start by assessing the student to determine their areas of weakness (and their areas of strength). I then develop a plan which will enable the student to gain confidence and develop their skill in the subject. My approach to tutoring Maths is to make it enjoyable, relevant and practical. In English I believe that it is important to find what the student enjoys and to build their skill level by using relevant material which is neither to hard or too easy. |
