About Lisa:
I am a mother of 4 children, I have also worked professionally with children for over ten years. I worked and studied part-time for several years and I have a degree in childhood studies, a foundation degree in Early Years and Education, a University certificate in Health and Social Care and I have Qualified teacher status and an enhanced CRB check. I am currently studying for my masters degree in education.

As a parent I have experienced helping my own children ( aged 7 - 15) with their homework, revision for SATs, and also revision for 11+ exams. In addition to this, two of my own children have specific learning difficulties so I am aware of strategies to use to support children with special needs.

Teaching Experience:

Professionally I was initially a teaching support assistant, where I worked with both groups and individual children from year 1 to year 6 supporting them with different aspects of the curriculum. This included working with children with special educational needs. I then qualified as a teacher and I have taught in year one, year two, year three and year five. This has meant that I have taught all curriculum subjects at a variety of levels over the past few years. I work in an inner city school, and so have extensive experience of supporting children who have English as an additional language.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a calm and flexible approach to tutoring. I believe that a tutoring approach has to be child specific. Due to this I always take into account; where the child is currently academically, what the child's preferred learning style is, the child's strengths and weaknesses, and also their personality before I make any decisions on my specific approach.

About Khadijia:
I am a multi-lingual Muslim mother of 3 children ranging from 13 to 19 years in age and have a mature knowledge and experience of working and bringing up children both at a personal and professional level.

The skill of working with children of various age groups and abilities during my studies for my degree in Teaching and Learning Support (Primary). has promoted my knowledge and understanding of the primary school curriculum, English as an additional language, child development and special educational needs.

Teaching Experience:

My part-time voluntary work at a primary School over 3 years enabled me to carry out school based tasks, placements and assignments - a requirement for my degree. Here I supported teachers by providing additional support to pupils with English as an Additional Language, learning needs, worked with pupils on an individual basis and small groups, liaised with parents on day to day issues regarding children's developments and progress.

During my employment for 4 years, as a year 6 teacher at an Islamic School I was able to implement all the guidance from my placement, demonstrate the ability to work as a team member and enhance my performance at a professional level. Working as a non-qualified teacher I carried out the full range of duties of a qualified teacher including preparation, planning, working, assessing and recording children's progress to enhance teaching and learning.

I was also involved in preparation and delivery of National Sats, ran after school booster classes, provide feedback to parent's on pupil progress through reports and discussions at parent's evenings. Due to the context in which I worked my position to transmit an advisory role to challenging issues both at educational level and community level necessitate to act and carryout judgements and use my own initiative to be fair firm and without prejudice.

Working at Beardwood High School widened my horizon in meeting and associating my experiential work to broader challenges in dealing with pupils of a higher age group with varied social and behavioural issues. My past experience from the Islamic School benefited me with the opportunity to carry out supply work for the school during the five weeks of a teacher's absence.

Tutoring Approach:

As my work is closely linked to home and the community, the requirement to apply advice and solutions with confidentiality strengthens the need to use initiative and flexibility with sensitivity at all times ensuring an adaptable approach when working with children. My speciality lies in working with EAL and special needs children.

Hence i feel that the range of work experience I hold facilitates me to follow the guidelines, rules and regulations along with commitment towards providing the best possible support and service. My school record and reference reflects my ability to maintain punctuality, professionalism and be a role model by setting a good example in the way I portray myself through my communication skills, teaching strategies, dress code and how I conduct my flexible manner with spontaneity to differing learning needs.

Experience suggests that children require additional tutoring to enable them to meet potential grades,
help with exam preparations, develop knowledge and understanding through one to one support, or a child may require specific support to enhance their learning needs.

I am available to provide tutoring from my home.

About Patricia:
I am a mother of two wonderful young adults. I am now pleased to be living in the South East for the first time since my school days. I live in a lovely 4 bedroomed house with a large garden and orchard.

I am currently enjoying supply teaching in several schools in the Reading.

My personal interests include singing, listening to classical music, personal development, nutrition, craft work and learning new things.

Teaching Experience:

I have had a wonderful and varied teaching career for the last 27years in Wales, England, USA and Kuwait.

I have enjoyed teaching children from age 2 to 18 and also adults, but I have mainly taught children in Primary school. Some of the children have had special needs including Hearing Impairment, specific learning difficulties such as ADHD, ADD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and other learning difficulties including Aspergers' Syndrome and Downs' Syndrome. I am familiar with basic BSL (British Sign Language) but as I have not used it for a few years I would need a while to get up to speed.

I have taught English as another language to both adults and children.

I have also enjoyed holding several classes teaching crafts such as knitting, crochet, cross stitch, tapestry work, making stuffed toys and fabric collage.

Tutoring Approach:

I am familiar with the National Curriculum requirements for the Primary age range and I have a specific programme that teaches reading, writing and spelling in a holistic way.

One of the reasons why some children (and adults) have difficulty in grasping mathematical concepts is that they need more practical (concrete) experience, which I aim to provide.

I use several strategies to enhance learning and make it easier for my pupils and students.

Brain Gym is a series of simple exercises to integrate both hemispheres of the brain. This enhances the understanding of the subject being learned by creating new pathways.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is an easy self administered acupressure technique which is a wonderful tool to help overcome emotional blocks to learning (e.g. in Maths and Reading).

I have also found that certain classical music pieces enhance the learning, especially when coupled with a holistic approach. This includes sight, hearing, speaking, touch, movement and joy.

About Clare:
I am a young professional and enthusiastic person who loves working with children and seeing them flourish. I like to make learning fun and practical wherever it is possible. I am caring and sympathetic and I always take time to listen because I know that building a good relationship with a pupil results in improved results.

Teaching Experience:

I trained as a Nursery Nurse for 2 years then completed a 3 year degree in primary education during which I taught at a variety of schools. I now work as a higher level teaching assistant in a Local Education Authority (LEA) school in Co. Durham. I have worked with children throughout the primary age range and excel in the Foundation Stage (4-5yrs) and Key Stage 1 (5-7yrs). Currently working between two classes I have to manage my time and prioritise jobs. I am competent with ICT including animation and digital video activities. I work regularly with individual children and small groups who need extra support, many of which are on the special needs register. I have aquired level one in British Sign Language (BSL)

Tutoring Approach:

I do not always know the answers to children's questions but I find that they respond well if they can be involved in finding out the answers with me. I believe that it is good for children to know that nobody knows everything and everyone can always learn something new! I have a firm but fair approach and I expect high standards of work. I use a variety of strategies and techniques to teach and support children's learning as I am aware that different children all have their own preferred method of learning ie aesthetic, rote.

About Kerry:
I employ a modern and fun approach to tutoring. The key to successful learning is finding the ways in which we, as individuals, learn best.
I am honest, reliable and most importantly - I enjoy the process of teaching and the rewards of seeing my students achieve - however small that achievement may be.
I endeavour to help my students succeed yet in doing so, have fun and feel confident to use their newly aqcuired skills.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked within primary education in the UK for the last 2 years.

Previously I had worked as a teacher in Barcelona and Almeria teaching English to a wide range of ages and abilities.

I have taught English to large groups but feel that many progress quicker and retain their acquired skills far more successfully from individual tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer an adaptable, fun style and endeavour to provide stimulating lessons that are looked forward to, rather than dreaded!

For those wishing to better their English skills, I pay careful attention to encompassing reading, writing, speaking & listening skills and handwriting.

When teaching children, being flexible is essential. I constantly monitor performance and adapt my lessons as required.

Whilst teaching pupils of primary age, I often involve parents in order to help them participate in the future of assisting their children. New techniques of calculation and terminology can often seem daunting but are not as scary as they seem!

About Yolanda:
I'm a 33 years old Spaniard living in London since 2000...time flies...

Love London and travelling..and most of all meeting new people from different parts of the world..and teaching Spanish is a great way to do that!

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Teacher with QTS status. I have a degree in Psychology with a speciality in Communication and Education. I studied my degree in Salamanca, lots of foreign students come to the city to learn Spanish, and that's how I started teaching Spanish when I was about 19, and I meet lots of people and had lots of fun doing it!
Now in London I work as a Special Educational Needs teacher a challenging but rewarding job, and my experience with SEN has help me to understand the different needs of the students and the huge amount of possibilities in which you can teach something, and the fact that everyone is able to learn however unfeasible it might seemso have faith and come learn with me!

In my spare time I teach Spanish in 1:1 lessons and I have experience with GCSE and A level exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach all levels, beginners, intermediate and advanced. Whether you want to expand your vocabulary, deepen your knowledge of the language or revise for your GCSE or A levels,or just go on holiday.

First of all, I try to identify the student needs, so as to design the course according to your language needs and specific purposes for learning. Nevertheless, I always emphasize communication, since that's the purpose of language. My teaching approach varies according to your profile:enquiry-based learning, integrative learning, Direct Method (teaching through the foreign language). I always choose a method with which you feel comfortable. Among my teaching techniques I use debates about interesting topics, games, free conversation and writing exercises, etc

Grammar is explained clearly and related to the English language so that there is no confusion, particularly regarding tenses. Pronunciation and vocabulary are covered with the objective of being able to converse effectively and confidently.

About Baruch:
I am 28 and have recently moved to the Brighton area. I have worked with special needs children for just over 3 years. I have specialised in behavioural and language therapy but I am also looking to tutor in several areas as my experience and qualifications are sufficient. I completed 11 GCSEs, 1 NVD in Art, 4 Alevels and went on to do Child Sociology with Fine Art at university where I scored a second honors.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience with special needs, specialising in behaviour and language therapy. Part of my work has meant i have spent half my time working in a main stream school in London. This was one of the best primary schools in the Richmond Borough so I am fortunate to have learnt alot from them.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching should be fun and interesting to maximise retention. It is important that it is conveyed that there is no substitue for hard work and perseverence in achieving your goals and most importantly if you are enjoying what you are doing, irrespective of subject, then it ceases to be work.

About Kimrose Suetassha:
I have over six years of teaching experience and two years of tutoring privately. Most of my teaching experience has been gathered working with SEN pupils; Dyslexics and students with Dyscalculia in particular. To enable students to reach their full potential I understand that there is the need to be consistent, patient, creative and supportive when tutoring and this I endeavour to do on all tutoring occasions. Seeing a pupil master an area that had been previously hard to grasp brings me the greatest joy.

Teaching Experience:

2003-Present: Head of ICT & Maths Teacher, Mill Hill County High School, Oak Hill Campus (Specialist EBD school), East Barnet, London
2002 September-2003 October: Special Needs Teacher of ICT/Business, Brooke House Sixth Form College, Hackney, London.
January 2002-April 2002: Teacher of ICT/PSHE, Bridgeport High School, Jamaica
September 2000-November 2000: Greater Portmore Primary School, Jamaica

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in empowering my tutees to find and to solve problems with my help as opposed to being totally reliant on me for the answers. Additionally, I prefer not to be overly intrusive but endeavour to guide and support pupils as much as possible and give them as much resources as they need. I understand that not all tutees are the same. I will personalise resources to meet each tutee's need.

About Dawn:
I have completed one year of a BA Honours degree in Primary Education. I am now studying for a BA Honours degree in Spanish and plan to study further for a PGCE to enable me to become a special needs teacher. I am very experience and the majority of my work has been with children with moderate and severe learning difficulties.

Teaching Experience:

I have done work placements in both mainstream and special needs schools, working with children from eight years old to eighteen years old. I work on both a voluntary and paid basis in a school for children with severe learning difficulties and work at the annual summer scheme each year.

Tutoring Approach:

1. Determine the needs of the pupil;
2. Highlight the pupil's strengths and weaknesses;
3. Determine the pupil's learning style;
4. Use all of the above to develop an action plan and approach to tutoring.

Finally it is important to asess how the goals have been met, if they haven't, take further action in order to make sure that they are achieved.
