April - Poplar tutor
Information About April:
Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic, outgoing tutor with 8 years experience. I love teaching and working with young people.
I am a 24 year old History PhD student studying Global History, focusing my research on Kenya, South Africa, Singapore and Fiji. I am from the UK, and have lived in various cities within England. I have now settled down in London.
I do sporadic work as a university lecturer/seminar tutor. Over the pandemic, I also volunteered in a primary school for a year alongside my PhD.
Teaching Experience:
I have 8 years tutoring experience, and have tutored numerous students through 11+ exams, GCSEs and A Levels. In my capacity as a University lecturer and seminar tutor I have worked in Higher Education.
I have a 100% success rate of students passing the 11+ exams.
All my GCSE and A Level students achieved at least one grade higher than they were predicted, with the vast majority of them doing so with grades 8-9 at GCSE, and A-A* at A-Level.
I have significant experience working with all age-groups; my youngest student was 5 and I have tutored adult learners.
Tutoring Approach:
I focus on both increasing knowledge and enhancing my students' ability to communicate this knowledge within the exam setting. I am focused on exams from day 1, but also seek to foster a love of the subjects I teach and to enhance knowledge of the curriculum, but also of topics I feel will engage the student in ways the traditional curriculum may not.
I work with my students to make sure they leave me with many skills, not just the ability to pass exams. For this reason, I have worked on interview skills, CVs, EPQs and university personal statements with a number of my students.
I am a Global Historian by profession and seek to provide a diversified approach to my subjects; I seek to give historical context and examples that are global in my History lessons, and to provide texts from different cultures in my English teaching. I believe this sets students up well for the modern day workplace, but also sets them up to be a well-rounded modern citizen.
I am happy to discuss deals for multiple students who are friends/siblings. I look forward to hearing from you!
