Information About Clare:

Personal Description:

I am a 28 year old clinical scientist working in cancer diagnostics for the NHS in Belfast. I have an undergraduate degree in Human Genetics from Trinity College Dublin, a research masters from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD in Medicine from Queen's University Belfast. I am a friendly, approachable person. I was involved in peer mentoring programs throughout secondary school, helping to integrate new and vulnerable students into the school. I have been involved in many clubs and societies, such as tennis clubs, both as a participant and as a leader.

Teaching Experience:

During my undergraduate degree I tutored students in GCSE level maths and science and A-level biology. All these students received good grades in their exams. During my PhD I taught many tutorial sessions for the undergraduate students and acted as a lab demonstrator for practical classes.
During my teenage years I taught swimming lessons and provided life guard training to children aged 3-17. This allowed me to develop teaching skills for tutoring young children in a fun and interesting manner.

Tutoring Approach:

I have received tutoring in the past for language courses so I am aware of the stress and anxiety that students can feel when they require extra support. I tutor in an exam focused manner teaching students not only the course material but also tips and hints for tackling the actual exam. I encourage questions and discussions and try to tailor each session to the individual student.
