Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Kara and I am an English, English as a foreign language, and Maths tutor, who is incredibly passionate about helping others achieve their academic goals, so let's discuss your goals and meet them together. I am a caring and kind individual, who is here to help you reach your full potential. My teaching style is fun, focused and educational, and I am qualified to teach students from primary school age all the way up to GCSE level. I am currently studying a Bachelor's degree in Psychology (Hons).
Teaching Experience:
I have 1-year tutoring experience in English language and reading.
• Tested and tracked ability using a software called 'Accelerated Reader' to review students' progress, and assess any weaknesses.
• Understood the capacity and pace of the student, and tailored lessons accordingly to their style of learning.
• Used a variety of resources, including the dictionary, to ensure familiarity with longer, more complex vocabulary.
Private Tutor, Self-employed, 1 year thus far -
Currently privately tutor numerous students, from the age of 5 to 16, in both Maths and English, on online platforms and face-to-face:
• Create lessons plans and tailor each lesson to the students' abilities and goals.
• Abide by the curriculum for each individual, and break it down to target and learn each necessary skill for Maths and English.
• Use a combination of interactive and written techniques and methodology to create the most efficient learning environment.
• Assess the students' goals and aspirations regarding academic prowess, and meet them through regular study.
• Develop my students' confidence and ability to think independently and form hypotheses based on existing knowledge.
Tutoring Approach:
For English as a Foreign Language students:
•Focus on teaching spelling, grammar, punctuation, pronunciation, and fluency.
•Taught how to express themselves like a native speaker, with an accent as if they are from the United Kingdom.
•My approach to teaching consists of positive feedback in a step by step approach, tailored to my student's individual styles of learning.
• We will speak conversational English, discussing interesting topics, and using language that you actually want to use.
For Maths, English and English as a Foreign Language students:
•I teach English and Maths in a very fun, interactive way, with a kind and patient approach to teaching.
•Approach to teaching is based on focusing on any areas of weakness, to ensure success and understanding across all topics of the subject, as well as using different methods of learning for maximum retention of information.
• Most importantly, to provide lessons which are engaging and fun for students, so that they are excited to learn.
