Information About Christopher:

Personal Description:

I have a very high writing level and enjoy writing creatively and factually about a wide variety of subjects. Through my time working as a journalist I am used to being given a brief to work from, conducting meticulous research, and creating interesting and engaged copy for readers and listeners. A hardworking, quick thinker who is reliable and always gives 100% to any task assigned, I believe I have the ability to succeed in whatever role I am given.

As a journalist, I had daily experience of working in intense, fast-paced, ever-changing working environments where I was required to think on my feet at all times whilst maintaining the strict standards of my employers, adhering to journalistic law and editorial standards. I also had to constantly speak to people from all different walks of life in a professional way, in order to create interesting content, so strong communication, both in person and online/ phone, was vital to working in this industry.

Teaching Experience:

During my 7 years in teaching I amassed a wealth of experience, and moved up within a leading Further Education institution from being on PGCE placement to a Course Leader role in this timeframe. This shows the commitment I have to the profession of teaching, as well as the skills and work ethic to back it up. During my time in FE I had many key responsibilities. As Course Leader I was responsible for planning curriculum, and really leading from the front with a team of staff to give exciting, fun and challenging teaching and learning to Post-16 students. Training and mentoring new and existing staff was also a key part of my job, showing my ability to help and educate my peers as well as being able to do it in the classroom. I was also involved in planning, writing and delivering a degree programme during this time, going through many different levels of authentication and creating exciting resources to deliver it in it's early years of conception.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a relaxed, but focused approach to tutoring. This may sound like a dichotomy, but in reality, you can't learn something if you aren't in the correct frame of mind to do so, so I believe in helping learners feel at ease, comfortable and targeted on what they want to achieve is the best way to achieve positive learning outcomes. Teaching and learning needs to be fun, that's a fundamental aspect of how I work as a tutor.

I ensure learning resources are interactive, accessible to all and easy to understand, ensuring learners are visually and audibly stimulated as well as challenged academically. I believe that feedback is crucial in learning, and always place emphasis on keeping learners consistently up to date with progress, as well as providing quick ways to measure how far a student has come, such as using fun quizzes.
