Jamie - Abbey Wood tutor
Information About Jamie:
Personal Description:
I have recently graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in BSc Actuarial Science with 1st class honours. I have had a passion for mathematics from a young age - understanding and deconstructing complex problems and applying mathematics into different branches, specifically statistics. In my first year of University, I got two first class grades in both mathematics and Statistics, with Statistics being 90% in my January Exams. I have been nominated by my high school to participate in Mathematics Masterclasses for 3 years run by the Royal Institution. In my 2nd year I achieved the highest mark in my entire cohort in one of my modules and achieved an average of 1st class grades in every module for 2nd and 3rd year.
During my A levels, my academic record for maths and further maths (having achieved 100% in several modules) illustrates that the study techniques I endorsed proved to be successful. From the age of 9, I attended weekend maths classes to boost my skills for over 6 years and have mirrored the best techniques during my A levels, in which I voluntarily tutored students at GCSE level in my high school for 2 years and have also tutored a student in the 11+ who ended up in a Grammar School. Given everything, I believe that I'm adequately suited in both knowledge and capability in sharing everything I've learned.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing piano, self-learning guitar and skiing! I also participate in both LSE Badminton and Pool & Snooker Societies at university.
Teaching Experience:
During my time at university, I have been tutoring mathematics from KS3 to A Levels (and 11+) virtually and have amassed over 100 lessons taught with over 60 5 star reviews from my students. I have experience at both teaching students virtually online and in-person - every student that I've tutored who was preparing and has sat their exams with myself have gotten in (100% success rate), including Grammar Schools, University exams etc.
Tutoring Approach:
For my lessons, I will initially seek to get a good idea of the strengths and weaknesses of the student, build a positive relationship with them and establish a clear and concise plan with the student. Over time, I will be making profiles for each of my students and noting down any observations I may make during any lessons. The resources I provide and the way I teach the content will be uniquely tailored towards the student on an individual case by case basis.
I aim to use tuition time as effectively as possible. The first and foremost aim is to clear up any grey areas a student may have with respect to their syllabus.
Regarding help with homework sets, I will teach you the correct approach to the questions and how to think, and then appropriately provide hints where required until the student works out themselves on how to solve the problem. Without a doubt, past exam papers are the way to go in order to ace your exams and together, we shall strive towards being on the level of being able to ace any exam paper coming your way!
We shall incorporate effective study revision methods for your exams that will allow you to absolutely ace them! These methods have worked for both the students I've worked with and I and for you too.
