Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Matthew. I'm a freelance film tutor, commissioned screenwriter/producer and published author. I've tutored Film as both individual workshops at universities, colleges, film schools, and specialized in one-to-one personal tutoring either in person or online. Teaching many aspects of Filmmaking, Film Theory, and Script Writing. I have done this across all education levels (MA, Degree, A Level, A/S, and GCSE).
Who I tutor:
For students looking to complete a qualification, to those wanting to work in the industry, or those who wish to develop ideas in their leisure, I can tailor lessons towards your course syllabus or each individual students' specific need. I mentor students to help them achieve their goals and potential future careers. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions you'd like to ask before committing to a lesson. My Industry Experience:
In the Film and TV industry I've had feature screenplays produced and distributed worldwide, alongside festival award nominations in LA and London. As an author, I have four fiction books published. Most recently a book on film history called Noir, Nihilism, and Crime: The Forgotten Films 1970-1989. You can find a list of my film credits on imdb. I believe this first hand industry experience is a key component in helping students achieve high grades and develop an understanding of how the industry works.
Teaching Experience:
I've tutored Filmmaking, Film Theory and Script Writing as both personalized one-to-one lessons (including mentoring) and also group workshops at:
University of London Birbeck (MA Students)
Bradfield College, Guildford College, Strodes College and Queen Marys College (A Level and Btec students)
Theale Green Secondary School (GCSE pupils)
Cine Club Film School (ages 5-15)
Phoenix Cultural Centre and Seap UK (adults of all ages).
I have also tutored individual lessons online or in person for all aspects of Film (theory, writing, directing) over many years via UK Tutors and similar tutoring websites.
Tutoring Approach:
An online / or in person lesson can be as short as one hour or as long as three hours, whatever suits the student best on a lesson-by-lesson basis. A group workshop in person can be a full booking of a morning, afternoon or evening. I'm always happy to tutor towards each students' personal schedule, their creative ideals and course syllabus.

Lessons:
Both the one-to-one online or in person tutoring I offer and/or group workshops, have been structured for students interested in learning all key aspects of Film/TV including Filmmaking, Film Theory and Script Writing. I am also happy to mentor students wanting to work in the entertainment industry for future careers, or those who are thinking about studying film at university. I also tutor adults of any age who wish to develop creative ideas in their leisure time, be it a Film or TV script, a Stage-play, or a Novel. I always offer my first-hand Film & TV industry experience to anyone looking to break into the industry.
Tutoring Ideals:
The key aspect when tutoring is communication, advise and collaboration. It requires hard work, dedication and commitment from a tutor, I need to be a good listener to hear what each student needs. My advice to all students is something my beautiful mum used to tell me 'Believe in yourself. Through dedication and hard work, you can achieve anything'. I am here to help any student achieve what they need.
