Information About David:

Personal Description:

You will find no-one better qualified for Kent Test tuition! I`m a very experienced 11+ tutor - I write 11+ papers for tutoring academies and have published online guides to the process and specifics of the 11+ tests which is how I can justify being a little more expensive than some of my counterparts.
I`m also a literacy consultant / editor and a fully-qualified primary teacher but the 11+ and primary tutoring have become my life now I`ve chosen to leave the classroom.
I`ve been working one-to-one very successfully in Lancashire and Kent for many years and am always asked to continue once I`ve started working with children as they find my style engaging, patient and supportive.
I have extensive knowledge of English, maths, teaching to the GL 11+ Kent Test and also the private school entry tests, having worked in the private sector for many years. This includes entrance tests at both 11 and 13, Common Entrance and Scholarship.

Teaching Experience:

I spent a decade teaching English in a top prep school and co-ordinated the 11+ transition there. Since then I have been working with children on a one-to-one basis and have had great success at improving standards in English and maths, as well as getting children through to grammar schools. I`m also a freelance writer on the 11+ process and compile guides and questions for different websites and tutoring academies. In recent years I`ve been a literacy consultant and have a specialism in spelling, punctuation and grammar, also working for a top education publisher as an editor / reviewer.
I now mostly teach English and maths, especially for the Kent Test, and have an extensive knowledge of the verbal reasoning / non-verbal reasoning elements so teach these where required. As a result of my other work, I have lots of unique resources which I`ve written and which directly replicate the Kent Test.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very calm, quietly-spoken tutor who expects children to start off with uncertainties and finish sessions with confidence. I have a sense of humour that I like to use in sessions as I want the children to feel that this is quite different from a school lesson. Being in a separate, 1-2-1 environment, I can keep the children interested and able to understand things that they wouldn't quite be able to grasp in a classroom setting. I vary subjects within lessons and always follow the interests of children rather than follow some sort of set lesson that may not serve the child well.
I have plenty of experience with children who do not find the subjects easy and I have a proven track record of spotting issues that may have been missed in a school environment. One of my recent pupils was not getting the results expected and I diagnosed issues which were then followed up by a professional and given formal diagnosis, which has now boosted them in school. It is that sort of experience that you get by going for a genuinely qualified teacher who has been tutoring for many years!
