Personal Description:

I am a reflective and conscientious classroom practitioner with over 8 years of teaching experience.

I am an experienced examiner for A level Biology and work as an associate marker every year for Pearson. I believe this to be one of the most important cpd opportunities a teacher can do as it gives a deep insight into the marking guidelines and procedures, the knowledge of which can help guide student responses in exam situations.

I have coached students in BMAT entry exams, with focus on exam technique and reading around topics to improve opportunities for entry to elite institutions, such as Oxbridge and medical/dental/vet schools.

Teaching Experience:

3 years secondary science 11-16 (both trilogy and separate AQA) with A level Biology.
5 Years Head of A level Biology including SNAB (edexcel), AQA and Eduqas specifications
3 Years Pearson associate marker for A level Biology.
5 years head of BTEC applied science with 4 years Lead internal verification and 1 year external standards verification.

Tutoring Approach:

Tailored tutoring to the learning needs of the student based on data to inform my pedagogy. Enquiry based learning to help students achieve the most from the tutoring experience.

Assessment of learner needs with gaps in knowledge drive the conversation. Beginning with more basic concepts we move to more complex theories and questions based on skill acquisition over the course of many months. Confidence is routinely built and my tutees are encouraged to try more challenging tasks as we progress. Exam technique is at the heart of the conversation from the first session and through experience ass a marker I can guide tutees to expect and achieve high grades.

I have experience and much success in coaching students and tutees with UCAS applications - particularly Medical/dental/vet/Oxbridge, personal statements, BMAT and careers guidance, however this is at a different external rate.
