Information About Ala:
Personal Description:
I am an artist and professional photographer. I have a BA degree in Fine Art from University of the Arts London and am currently undertaking a Masters in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London.
I am warm, energetic and love engaging young children and nurturing their natural creativity. As Picasso said, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once s/he grows up." The art lessons we have as children are never forgotten and shape us for many years to come. I still remember with fondness my own memories of the art lessons I attended as a child. The fun, the excitement, the joy and sheer possibilities these lessons brought into being and how they helped me express my feelings and experience the distinct thrill of creating something new and novel.
Teaching Experience:
I have been a private teacher to adults and children for the last five years. But I have been studying art for more than 15 years, both as a painter and student of art theory and history. Apart from having studied in art schools, I also had the opportunity to study with private art tutors and respect artists from my early childhood.
Tutoring Approach:
Given that I have been enrolled in art classes both as a child and adult, and have since become a teacher myself I am able to teach and attend to the needs of various age groups and bring the very best out of people.
I believe there are many different approaches for teaching art to individual children. I can offer bespoke classes for each child depending on their age, their needs and personality and their interests. I usually start by teaching basic drawing and knowledge about colours and shapes. I also teach different techniques with various media such as water colour, gouache paint, crayons etc. I also teach them elementary knowledge of art history, the lives of different artists and artistic movements so they acquire familiarity with this new world, hitherto unknown to them.
I try not only to teach children the basics of art but also self-confidence and belief in themselves. The ability to express oneself with confidence and give voice to one's creativity is a skill not only for the artistic studio, but for life more generally.
I'm committed to making the art class a fun place for children to develop their creativity and imagination, but also teach them how to beautify and transform their surroundings while they are learning.
