Laura - Aylesbury tutor

Information About Laura:

Personal Description:

Passionate about a range of topics in psychology. I have taught in a range of school and other academic environments. I feel confident about the 2015 AQA and Edexcel syllabi. I enjoy the independence of home tutoring. Through my work with Buckinghamshire Adult Learning and CPD provided, I have kept up to date with ways of enhancing learning. I am usually available most weeknights after school and weekends, but am also available to offer summer school tuition for those that want to get ahead before the next school year starts.
I co-wrote a book about first names that delves into the area of how first names colour our perception of people and invite positive and negative associations.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching since 1996, my first post as a Psychology Teacher at Gravesend Grammar School for Girls. I have experience of exam focused Easter revision courses, specifically through teaching at sixth form colleges in London. I examined for the AQA unit 2 paper a number of years ago, before having my own family. I am subject leader for psychology at the school where I teach. Alongside this, I provide one to one tutoring in my own home.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor my approach to each student, drawing up a tuition plan after our first lesson to maximise progress and to ensure achievement. The tutee is very much involved in this plan and should something come up in school during the week, then I try to include that as part of the learning plan. Using a variety of teaching techniques, I aim to instil confidence in my tutees in order that they progress towards fluency with the "language" of psychology. Highly experienced in prepararing students for examinations; Students achieve well in their psychology exam results. A02 and A03 skills are a running thread throughout each so that they become reflected in tutees answers and writing, with deliberate ease. There is always time for a joke and reflection on how current news stories may be understood through psychology.
