Information About Tom:

Personal Description:

I have had a varied career spanning studying theoretical physics at Cambridge, being a software engineer in industry, a researcher in General Relativity at the Albert Einstein Institute in Germany, a lecturer in Computer Science in Cardiff, and now split my time between tutoring Maths, Physics and ICT, freelance software consultancy, and storytelling.

This has all stemmed from my passion to learn which I wish to pass on to a new generation. As well as tutoring I volunteer as a STEM ambassador and was a judge at this year`s Big Bang School Science competition at Aintree.

Teaching Experience:

As well as lecturing and running workshops around the world for many years when I was an academic researcher, I have tutored GCSE and A-level physics and maths and am familiar with:

the Edexcel, OCR, OCR-MEI and WJEC A-level mathematics syllabuses (including Further Maths, Mechanics, Statistics and Decision Maths);

the AQA, Edexcel and OCR GCSE Mathematics syllabuses;

the OCR (A and B), AQA and WJEC Physics A level syllabuses;

the OCR and AQA GCSE Physics syllabuses;

and the IB Mathematics and Physics syllabuses.

I have also prepared students for the Oxford PAT and MAT exams, as well as helping university students with their studies.

Tutoring Approach:

I want my students to succeed. As such I seek to understand their needs and goals, and identify their weaknesses and address those. I expect tutees to apply themselves, and will make sure they understand the steps necessary to solve any problem and the concepts behind them.
