Carolyn - Peckham tutor
Information About Carolyn:
Personal Description:
I gained a 1st class degree in Modern History at Oxford University in 2009, specialising in the history of conflicts such as the Northern Irish troubles and Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I have also completed an MA in International Relations at Yale University, where I came top in the year for academic achievement. During my studies at Yale, I taught undergraduates classes in social science and discovered a passion for teaching.
In addition to my academic and teaching experience, I have considerable professional experience in international affairs. I have worked in The Hague for a non-governmental organisation working to build empathy in communities divided by conflict. I have two years of experience project managing international development projects, especially education projects in conflict-affected areas. I have two years of experience as a management consultant working on projects for UK central government departments. I have also carried out part-time research for universities and think tanks.
Teaching Experience:
I have significant teaching experience working with both children and adults at different stages of their academic development.
In 2013, I was a Teaching Fellow at Yale University, delivering social science lessons to classes of over 20 undergraduate students each week. I prepared my classes, coordinated the logistics of the classes with the professor, graded the students' problem sets and provided one-to-one tuition to students.
I have provided private tuition to students for A Level and GSCE in a range of subjects including English, History and Political Science.
I also have provided Oxbridge preparation for students applying to Oxbridge for History and Classics. This included providing preparation materials, interview advice and interview practice.
Tutoring Approach:
I am a friendly and diligent tutor who creates tailored lesson plans based on the needs of the individual student. I am patient with students and committed to helping them understand the material and realise their potential in examinations.
