Information About Ivan:
Personal Description:
I am a current student in the University of Nottingham studying for a Mechanical Engineering degree. It is a course heavily based on mathematics and physics and I have excelled in all of my first year modules. I received my secondary education from the High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in my hometown in Bulgaria. The curriculum involved various subjects but the focus was on intensive preparation in maths and physics. I graduated with a score of 5.99 out of 6.00 on my Diploma for secondary education with a 6.00 on my Mathematics state exam which is equivalent to the English A*. In addition to my compulsory studies, I was involved with clubs in mathematics and physics where we were taught things going far beyond our curriculum. I participated in various national competitions in these subjects (something like the British Maths Challenge) and was awarded several first prizes in them. Due to my achievements I was invited to attend to the lectures preparing the national team for the International Mathematics Olympiad.
Teaching Experience:
I have been tutoring since I was 13 years old, helping friends and neighbours to prepare for exams. I have also lectured smaller students from my high school to prepare them for competitions in mathematics. All of them achieved excellent results.
Tutoring Approach:
When teaching, I aim to transfer this passion about maths and physics to my tutees. In my opinion, the greatest teacher is not the one who just knows the solutions to all the problems, but the one who can ask their students the right questions. My aim is to teach students to think logically, so that they can get to the correct solutions themselves and gain real understanding of the subject. Tough theory then comes easily. In my teaching, I often use examples for the practical applications of science, some of which are inspired from my current course of study. I do this because I think that knowing the answer to the question "Why do I need this in real life?" can be extremely motivating. Learning with me happens in a patient, friendly and natural manner, and I guarantee that it will be a useful, enriching and inspiring experience, leading to excellent results.
