Emma-Louise - Alton tutor

Information About Emma-Louise:

Personal Description:

I have been teaching for 8 years now. I am currently a full-time teacher and am trained to teach ages 4-11. I love my job and love to see the progress that children make given the right input. I believe that young children can benefit from extra 1:1 input as much as older children. I think that learning should be made fun, purposeful and engage the child as much as possible. I believe that any child can love to learn and can make progress given the right environment and the right motivation. I love reading and I play the clarinet and saxophone. I also like to keep fit whenever I can!

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in teaching throughout the primary age range. I am currently situated in Key Stage 1, however I manage English for the whole school (4-11) which means that I have good knowledge of the English curriculum across the primary age range. I am also on the school senior leadership team which means I have a good knowledge of maths and other areas of the curriculum from KS1 through to KS2. I have had much experience in helping children to build phonics, reading, writing, number and calculation skills. I have an extensive knowledge of a child's development from early years and up through the age ranges. I have acquired a sound knowledge of how to support children with special educational needs including dyslexia and dyspraxia.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe every minute counts and this can be achieved in a purposeful and fun way. I feel that any child can have confidence in their abilities given the right approach. Upon first tutoring with a child, it is important to work out their strengths in learning, as these can be used and built upon, as well as any blocks that they may be encountering. I have gained much experience in identifying gaps and blocks to learning, as well as promoting and using a child's talents within an area to spur them on further. Each session will focus upon a specific targeted area, which will be shared with parents beforehand; subsequent sessions will involve opportunities to embed this previous learning as well as moving onto the next steps when appropriate. I am more than happy to liaise with your child's school regarding their learning if this is ever felt appropriate.
