Personal Description:

I am an experienced teacher with an excellent track record of raising current working grades through one to one tuition. I am a calm and friendly person. I believe I can teach in an inspiring and effective way. I have many years experience as a teacher and as an examiner for several examination boards.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Geography teacher, with 20 years of experience. I am currently Head of Geography within a secondary school (11-18) I have taught Geography from Key Stage 3, through to GCSE, IGCSE and A Level across all the major Exam Boards. Including Geography, I teach BTEC Travel and Tourism (Pearson). As well as my vast amounts of teaching experience, I hold the position of Senior Examiner for Edexcel/Pearson and External Verifier for BTEC Pearson. I am also an Examiner for AQA. I have worked for these two major exam boards for over 15 years. My approach to tutoring is a personalised approach, all content is prepared to meet the needs of the student. Working alongside this, I use past exam questions, mark schemes and examiners reports. 2023 students gained A*, A*, A and B grades I am available weekdays from 5pm onwards and weekends from 10am.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a friendly relaxed learning environment tailored to exactly what the pupil requires. This is an approach which I have found pays rich dividends in terms of academic progress.
I teach to the specific needs of a student by initially assessing their strengths and weaknesses in knowledge and understanding. I also discuss with them the methods by which they learn best, to establish good revision techniques. The student is then asked to look carefully at exam technique ie how to correctly interpret the question, how to respond to the command words and how to understand the marking criteria. This then allows them to see how to access different levels of marks according to how much detail they give in their answers. By studying a range of answers to a set question the student can learn to identify the key ingredients to a good quality answer.
Over the past three years I have also used Online software packages to undertake tutoring sessions. These sessions are again tailored to the students needs and offer instance feedback using visualiser software to mark students work "live".
