Personal Description:
I have been teaching for 21 years, unlike many other tutors. I completed a PGCE in secondary Science following 16 successful years in Pharmaceutical Marketing. For over 12 years I taught Chemistry and Biology at an innovative and Outstanding School. I added Physics A level to my skill set in 2014, this lead me to start studying for my MSc in Astrophysics. During these recent years, I have developed physics teaching and raised students enthusiasm for physics in my schools. I have expanded my interest in this field, as I have been appointed a Lead Educator with the UK Space Academy in Leicester, in addition to becoming a Physics Lead teacher.
I have recently become a content creator with an online blended learning platform.
As an educator, I strive to instil a love of learning and to show pupils how to make learning exciting and interesting.
I am a hardworking, enthusiastic, creative thinker who strives to motivate pupils of all abilities. I take great pride in inspiring pupils learning and developing pupils abilities to learn independently and take responsibility for their learning.
Teaching Experience:
During my time in teaching, I have accumulated a vast amount of experience across the spectrum of science. A level Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Environmental Sciences, AS Science, and Btec level 3 diploma in Applied Science in addition to GCSE Astronomy, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, and Key stage 3 Science. Following a period of time delivering KS2 intervention, I have tutored children for entry exams and KS2 sats.
I am an active leader in extracurricular activities and have been involved in the development and implementation of many new initiatives and innovations. Additionally, since 2007 I have been an A level and GCSE examiner for AQA and OCR. This has given me an invaluable insight into what the exam boards are looking for.
My pastoral experience in school for 10 years was focused in 6th Form. I have successfully guided a number of cohorts through UCAS application and destinations choices post-16.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that education is the most valuable tool in a person's life and I don't want to miss any opportunity to help the students along this path. I provide fun, positive support and guidance for the tutee, whether studying for upcoming exams, re-sits or just supporting their school study. I keep the focus of study up to the tutee and help them in areas that they are less comfortable with, using fun activities. I think it is important to encourage tutees to take control of their own learning whilst knowing they will get help if needed. I encourage tutees to email me if there is anything they are finding difficult during the week so that we can talk through them at the next session.
I have tutored for 17years at all levels. During this time ALL my A-level tutees have improved their predicted grades by at least 2 levels when they received their exam results. All my students have gone on to attend either their University of choice, a member of the Russell Group, or entered veterinary or medical degrees. My GCSE students have grown in confidence and greatly improved their final grades.
My broad experience has also allowed me to successfully tutor students for entrance and 11+ exams. My students achieve a 100% success rate, which includes children being offered scholarships.
UK tutors charge both the tutee and tutor, a finders fee. All UK tutors have to collect the second half of the UK tutor's payment from the tutee on their first visit.
Online tuition requires payment via PayPal before each session. Finally, for live tuition, I charge for mileage, which will be variable depending on the distance from home.
