Rani - Twickenham tutor
Information About Rani:
Personal Description:
My name is Rani and I am currently studying for a degree in history at the University of Oxford, having completed A-Levels at the Tiffin Girls' School in Kingston upon Thames and my gap year studying Foundation Art 2010-11. I succeeded academically at school myself and have always enjoyed tutoring and mentoring others. At A-level I have achieved A*A*A A* in English Literature, Art & Design, History and General Studies, including an A for As Mathematics. At GCSE I achieved 9A*s from the Lady Eleanor Holles School, Hampton. I am a friendly and supportive tutor in History, English, Art and Maths, and I also offer tutorials for reading and writing skills, school entrance examinations and university applications.
Teaching Experience:
I have experience tutoring primary school Maths and English, and also GCSE standard English and Art, in which I was able to sustain real improvement and positivity in my students. Whenever my younger sibling or friends have required extra help with their studies I have instinctively been a patient and personable tutor. My mother is a teacher of Mathematics to an A-level standard and from her experience I have observed the planning and patience that teaching requires.
I achieved the Community Sports' Leader Award, which was gained through a year of weekly teaching primary school children sports and games: for which I created lesson plans and learned how to effectively communicate with children from the youngest to the oldest. During school I ran the year seven Art club which was highly popular amongst the cohort. I enjoyed encouraging the students to express themselves, demonstrating new techniques whilst educating them about other artists, which noticeably developed their talents in the subject.
Tutoring Approach:
The main barrier to learning and understanding is often negativity, and I aim to make my students feel at ease with a positive mental attitude. I hope to make subjects less dry or confusing and more simple and interesting, therefore more memorable. I believe students should feel able to ask questions and that teachers should encourage a critical, analytical perspective in students which improves their abilities and confidence for the long term.
Well aware of the importance of exam technique for older students, having come through the hoops of the exam system successfully myself, I can help students improve their grade and can provide extra resources in the way of books, notes, questions, model answers, textbooks, essay plans etc. I have very strong writing skills and can truly help students who struggle in this respect.
For art I can offer workshops in drawing and painting technique and develop the talents of both younger and older students. For GCSE and A-level I can help students structure their thoughts and projects to achieve top marks.
As an Oxford student I am experienced in the applications process and can offer help to push essay writing to the higher level of achievement, and also offer guidance for interview technique.
